RK muffler bracket question
SilvrT replied to Pa-Ting's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
here's one... but I think there's another one somewhere [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=112227&postcount=7]VentureRider.Org - View Single Post - Alternate style RK muffler bracket[/ame] -
That sucks ... I guess this is one of those situations where "my" government insurance is a "good thing" ... even without getting a lawyer.

I've always used Lemon Pledge Furniture Polish. Any window cleaner such as Windex that contains ammonia will, over time, damage plexiglass by etching it. You can; however, use a Windex product that does not contain ammonia from what I understand.

I got mine here... ($45) http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/Motorcycle-Safety-Store__W0QQ_armrsZ1 if the above don't get you there... try this... http://cgi.ebay.ca/Stebel-Nautilus-Compact-Motorcycle-Air-Horn-Chrome_W0QQitemZ260481478696QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ca5e7f028&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

This is weird and I can't explain why I do this but when the bike is on the side stand and I'm standing beside it on the right and I'm going to start it for some reason or another (generally when someone is asking about the sound of the RK's or something like that), instead of hitting the start button, I hit the horn. That is so weird....never happens when I'm standing on the left side or when I'm sitting on the bike. I can see me scaring myself once I get the Stebel horn installed!

Do you turn the fuel off...
SilvrT replied to yamadawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Is there a fuel shutoff on a 1st gen? If there is, I never noticed it and have been so in the habit of not shutting the gas off, that I still don't on the 2nd gen. BUT .. I can see where shutting it off when parked in the garage for a number of days might be a good idea. Now... since ya can't teach an old dog new tricks.... I may have some difficulty here.... -
In another thread I've talked about our government insurance. One of the ideas behind it was to eliminate the insurance "hassles" that folks were up against when involved in an accident with private insurance. Also, it was to provide us with "no fault" coverage, meaning that you didn't have to wait to process a claim when fault hadn't been determined. Yeahsureright... the rule around here is, if you have a serious accident that involves personal injury or major loss, GET A LAWYER otherwise our "government run" insurance company will rape you big time! And, I've seen this in action first hand ... they really don't give a damn about the person's they insure. Lawyers even specialize in dealing with these cases and will, in most cases, do the work without any retainers and take their fees from the settlement. Most cases the settlements are much higher than what a person would have gotten without getting a lawyer. Additionally, property settlements are not handled by the lawyer but they will advise you on how to get as much as you can. When the ins co makes an offer to settle on your vehicle, you can dispute it and as long as you can provide various kinds of evidence, you can usually get a lot more than they're initially offering. They work like a car dealer and LOW BALL you.

My wife and I pay a total of $96 a month for government medical insurance. It covers a lot of the basic medical costs but many things are not covered. for example, Nina has a number of prescription meds she has to take and some are very expensive. Thankfully her job (and mine) provide us with extended, private, medical coverage which covers the cost of such extras like prescriptions up to 80%. I have dentures and am in need of new ones.... without the extended coverage, it would cost me close to $3,000 ... but all I will have to pay is $750. The government insurance does not cover such things.

It's a "private" company that is government controlled ... LOL so what is that..really? (a government operation). There are a number of large corporations like that here. They used to all be run (operated) and owned by the government. Then, years ago, and probably a political move, they "privatized" them....but in reality, they're still run by the government and still somehow get our tax dollars. Now, let's not let this turn into a political thread guys. FYI, we do have competition in the form of private insurance. We are forced to purchase our plates and basic 3rd party liability thru the "government run" Insurance (ICBC) but everything else can be purchased from private companies. I will be getting quotes come next season. Further, I am going to do some comparative pricing across Canada and, depending on those results, I am sending it all to the newspapers, my MLA, ICBC, and anyone else I can think of... asking .... WHY?

Yamaha paid for my first I basket too....no questions asked....but that's it... only one. I'm not totally satisfied so, since they won't pay for another one, I am going to purchase one myself. I will; however, hassle the rep to get me one at wholesale.

ya .... and your Ultra is valued at probably twice what my RSV is. It really sucks to be raped like this. Like the saying goes ... BC = Bring Cash!

I don't think it is a big cause all by itself but it does add to high cholesterol and when you have high cholesterol, anything you can reduce that affects that is an improvement. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6242467/
-
Firstly, the dealer will tell you that it "may" do nothing more than move the whine to a different rpm...maybe higher, maybe lower. They will not tell you it will reduce it...they know the odds are it won't so they do not want to give any false hopes. In fact, it may move it to a higher rpm -OR- it may not change it at all -OR- it may reduce it. There are no guarantees on this one. In my case, it made very little difference, if any at all. Secondly, Yamaha will most likely not cover the cost to put your old basket back in -BUT- if the dealer is any kind of a guy at all, he will do it at a reduced price. They were going to charge me only $50 but I elected not to. Also, my dealer told me I had two weeks to test it out and decide before he had to close the case and return the old basket back to Yamaha. For me the end result is very little difference; however, I have since changed the oil back to non-synthetic and added Motorkote and that has made "some" improvement...not a lot. Cruising at 100-110 km in 5th, I hear very little whine. Where I hear it the most is in 3rd gear around the city at lower speeds but the rpm is at that range where the whine is loudest. I tend to get out of there whenever I can...either dropping it to 2nd or up to 4th. 4th gear produces some whine but not enuf to be bothersome. Good luck on the swap. Make sure you test it out good within the 2 weeks (make sure your dealer agrees with this) ... and if not satisfied (it's worse), pay the few extra bucks if necessary and put the old one back in. At some point this winter I am going to purchase an I basket and install it myself. If it's worse, then I will just put the one I have back in. If it's better, then it's money well spent. I have no way of knowing if the basket they installed is actually an "I" basket at this time but if it isn't, you can be sure I will be raising hell with the dealer and Yamaha.

If I'm reading you right, the RK's are like this too ... at least mine are. ______________ /______________ --> front of bike

Like I implied... for "some" people... not all. Again, I meant no offense.... maybe just a bit of ... as I've been noted for doing from time to time! As for coffee sipping, I can handle about 3 cups in the morning ... 2 at home during brekkie and a smoke, one more mid morning at work. Guess I'm not a "coffeeholic" and it's a good thing coz my doc told me to cut down due to the cholesterol. Now, if I'm driving in my truck long distance, having a drink handy is good ... coz I hardly ever stop between gas ups.
-
Do you guys that have these drink holders actually stay in the saddle so long that you can't make it to the next stop without a drink? We carry our "gatoraid" or whatever in the side bag and drink when we stop...which is generally around an hour to an hour & a half and oftentimes, we don't even take a drink...just a short "driving" or "butt" break or to see some sights at a pulloff. Not meaning any disrespect but I sometimes think such things are nothing more than a fad or status symbol for some people. I had one once ... way back in 1987 on my '83 Wing ... hardly ever really used it and finally got rid of it. It's like a cigarette lighter ... even riding on these scoots ya can't fully enjoy a smoke ... friggin ashes blow all over ya, get in yer eyes and such. Oh wait... I get it now .... the drink holder holds the ashtray!!!

Once I can afford it I think I will be getting a set of Khromewerks. I like the RK's but the sound from the Khromewerks are much nicer. That sound file page has them too. Of all that are on there, those are the one's I like the best. Try getting there with IE ... you should have it on your PC.
-
From the sound clip they are louder than the stock RK's and quite possibly louder than the RK's after the baffles are drilled out. You might want to consider the RK mufflers and leave the baffles in them...they're a bit louder than the stock RSV mufflers.

was it a warning about spyware or something? I got that the first time...then I tried just going to their main site www.venturers.org and did a search to get to that page. Here's another link that might work ... http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/attachments/RSV_Screamin_Eagles1.wav

check this out... there's a sound clip for them plus others http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002009&id=285&highlight=muffler%20sound

Gary, I'm not a "religious" man so I don't do prayers BUT, I do wish all the best for you. Something I believe in very "religiously" (kindof a pun) is "All things happen for reason's" and it would certainly seem that in this case. Thankfully you weren't hurt badly. The bike is replacable... you aren't. Such things are certainly a "wake up call" for a person like me to get regular checkups...especially at my age. Hang in there!
