  1. heh... makes me wonder how folks with bigger hands/fingers can play an accoustic ... mine are small and I have trouble keeping away from the adjacent strings...but that could just be my inexperiance...
  2. I think you're thinking of a classical coz neither my acoustic nor Nina's daughter's acoustic have either a wider neck or nylon strings.
  3. heh... Brian... I just noticed that we're sitting there with pop and Gatorade ... great advertising for that establishment LOL !
  4. Thanks... some good pointers and yes, some have been mentioned. I've been following some of the lessons at justinguitar.com... great stuff. When I was showing interest in having a guitar, I indicated I wanted a Classical because of the nylon strings, 3/4 size, etc, etc but the wife and her daughter felt the acoustic would be better due to the difference in sound... I dunno why. I practised some more last night after a 2 day rest... it was easier on the fingers and I'm starting to feel that they are toughening up. Was working on A, E, & D chording and changing between the 3 ... seems to be coming along pretty good ... I'm really enjoying it and having a blast! I'll be taking the guitar to a shop either this weekend or next week for setup as suggested. Thanks a bunch guys and it's great to have others to chit-chat with and share ideas and experience, suggestions, and just to have others doing the same thing to communicate with.
  5. Happy New Year back atcha and to all the members of venturerider.org !!
  6. LOL... considering how my "singing voice" is... the frogs will have to handle the lyrics
  7. Already got one... thanks.
  8. I'm going to look into having it re-strung with those strings (or something). I don't seem to have a strength issue in my hand or fingers but since I have small hands/fingers, stretching them for correct chording is a bit of a challenge. I also find I get pain in the wrist and elbow coz I can't seem to get the right "hold" ... but I'm working on that... just a matter of time I know. I'm so looking forward to the day when I assemble my own ROCK BAND! :rotf:
  9. The year 2000 (Y2K) was significant not because people thought of it as the beginning of a "new century" but rather, it's implications and impact on computer systems and software that were not adjusted. A big part of that also had to do with leap year calculations.
  10. Well, ya gotsta take the durned thang outta thet thar case yanno b'for yer kin do anythin!! :rotf:
  11. cool... so how long have you been at it so far? I think I will set myself a schedule of an hour every second evening to begin with. I'm currently working on A, E, & D chords and changing from one to the other. Here's some good stuff I found on the net ... http://www.justinguitar.com/ of course, I am just on the "Beginners course" material.
  12. theoretically you are right but for all intents and purposes, I'd prefer to think it starts Jan 1, 2010 because that's when it flips to the next "10" That's similar to saying I'm 60 when I'm in my 59th year ... ain't no way I gonna make myself older unless I get a discount for it LOL
  13. Finding someone to "play with" (now guyz... get yer mind outta the gutter) is no problem. My wife's daughter is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and she's the one who inspired me to realize a life-long dream. As for "keeping interested" ... heh... as I mentioned, this has been a life-long dream and I am not gonna loose interest now.
  14. I have a feeling that I am doing this, especially with my index finger. The strings are not that high ... it's a good quality Yamaha Acoustic guitar.
  15. That's the answer I was needing coz I wasn't sure if I should keep practising or wait for a few days. As for the "bleeding" ... ain't gonna happen! LOL
  16. I got a guitar for xMas ... have always wanted to learn to play...never did. I practised boxing day and both days following...probably a couple hours each day. My chording fingers are so sore, tender, and numb feeling it almost hurts to type. I'm not sure if I should take a chance and practise more and risk doing more damage to my fingers or wait a few more days until the "normal" feeling comes back. And that brings me to my question... how long does it take before my fingers will start feeling normal again? (or will they?) ... mommy, it hurts ...
  17. There were 3 very significant things that took place in my life during this decade (2000-2010). The separation and divorce from my now ex-wife of 28yrs. The reunion with my son whom I had not seen for 31 years (he was 1.5 yrs when I'd last seen him). Re-connecting with my son was the greatest and we are very close. The breakup of my life with my ex was a very difficult time and it was shortly after that, that I connected with my son. My ex and I are still friends and we stay in contact with each other. Finally, meeting and marrying Nina almost 5 years ago. I can't imagine anything that could top any of these events in the coming decade.
  18. speaking of which, does anyone know what the torque should be on the bolts holding the clutch spring on a 2nd gen?
  19. Guess I totally forgot about 1st gen's ... :rotf: :rasberry:
  20. Now we have one so let's all make a choice and see where it goes. The "I" basket seems to have cured mine.
  21. how do I get to Hyperlobby?
  22. I haven't tried that yet ... maybe today
  23. Monty ... just an update... I downloaded IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 ... it's great ... been spending a lot of time with it. Another one I found that is free which I really like is Free Falcon 5. It's an F16 jet ... takes quite a bit of learning tho... You can get it here... http://www.tacticalgamer.com/falcon-4-general-discussion/135096-free-falcon-5-out.html and the upgrade from version 1 to 3 here... 24. My sincere apologies. I got a bit carried away with my comments without thinking about the effect and the place. It was not my intention to insult you. You have every right to your opinions and beliefs, just as I do and we should be able to voice them here without fear of being insulted. All the best to you and yours at this special time of year. -Rick
  25. Yup... what we need is a "Stupid Law" ... yes, I know some laws are stupid but I mean one for Stupid People. Fine 'em... stick 'em in the calaboose!!! Down with Stupid People I say!!! All kidding aside, those things could all fall under one existing law and that is "undue care and attention" which comes into play when an accident is involved. Similarly, so could the use of cell phones I guess but... Making it a separate law allows for a separate fine and one in which nothing else has to occur as a result of same. I agree with most of what you say but imagine... getting a fine because you're talking to your spouse while driving... and what constitutes talking? 3 words or more? Imagine how much more we'd have to be taxed to cover the additional costs associated to enforcing so many laws... a line has to be drawn somewhere I suppose. I think that a "cell phone" law kindof brings that particular thing into the forefront of peoples minds and that appears to be necessary due to the associated accident statistics not just here but everywhere. I also think that because it is a separate law, it could result in stiffer punishment being doled out when an accident is involved. An interesting topic here....enjoying the varied responses ..
