I'd thought about the "hitch pin" method too....just haven't gotten around to getting some. Another idea I am contemplating is putting wheels on the leg base plates. 'nuther one of those "round toit's". Considering the slight movement of the legs in the adapter slots, I'm not sure if I'd retain the stability tho. Possibly a "U" shaped base might work ... the adapter legs would just sit on it ...

yup... mine did too but I understand why that is ... not everyone wants numbers or dots on the shiny black surfaces that everyone can see.

For the most part ... general maintenance items, minimally you'll need a set of metric allen wrenches with a "ball end", a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm sockets and wrenches, screw driver with changeable bits, pliers, crescent wrench big enuf for the rear wheel axle nut.... and... ??? I have both standard and deep sockets. Can't recall the mm size for the spark plugs but you'll need one of those plus a short extension for the rachet. I prefer the swivel-head rachet.

Which spark plugs to use
SilvrT replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
and you do that so very well As was my purpose .... to provide not only my opinion but also my experiance. As for the following statement I made.... Allow me to retract that and re-state as follows (for balancing purposes) ... "As for the Champions, I've never cared for them even though, for the most part, they seemed to work just fine 98% +/- of the time when I did use them (many years ago); however, for an inexpensive plug, they seemed to do just fine in lawnmowers and chainsaws" -
Which spark plugs to use
SilvrT replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sensible logic; however, it could also be said that, while Champion plugs function well under the worst conditions, they may well not function as good under higher combustion pressures, leaner and cleaner fuels and high-output ignitions.... ya think maybe??? I recall years ago when I pulled wrenches for a living, we had a spark plug tester in the shop and we'd test the old plugs under varying loads to see if they were good or not (even if they looked good, they could still fail) ... then we'd test the new plugs just to ensure we weren't putting in a faulty one ... I'd guess in a box of 100 Champion plugs, at least 1 or more were faulty in that they would start to fail long before max load. Now, if we didn't check them, that would mean an unsatisfied tuneup customer 1 time in 100 ... not good for business. In those days it was generally Champion or AC Delco if I remember right ... can't recall if NGK was commonplace or not ... if they were, we probably didn't use them due to higher price. Just my eggspeareance here... so since those days I have never used a Champion plug ... but, times have changed and maybe they've improved ... but I'll stick with NGK and for my scoot, I'll go with the Iridium. After all, there's only 4 of them and it's gonna take me a few years before they reach end of life. -
Removing rear wheel with bike on CarbonOne lift adapter
SilvrT replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
That's essentially what I did except, I already had the bike sitting on the free-standing adapter when I removed the wheel. Realizing I couldn't get it all the way out, I rolled the jack under, lifted it up high enuf and pulled the wheel out. In doing so, I angled the wheel a bit bottom out towards the right side and wiggled it past the fender and bag frame. I'd already done this once before I acquired the adapter, using the jack only and my own make-shift frame support. It was an added "comfort" to have my "assistant" holding the scoot steady. -
yeah... that's not important at all... that's why I painted numbers 1 thru 4 on mine .... :rotf:

Also, even if you have Reading Pane turned on, you can Right-Click the email and choose Delete from the menu without actually activating it. -

You probably have Preview Pane or Reading Pane turned on... To turn it off, go to the View menu and you'll see there where you can do that. -
Removing rear wheel with bike on CarbonOne lift adapter
SilvrT replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks for that feedback ... wasn't sure if it was "just me" or not. I'm quite OK with having to jack it higher to remove the wheel. Yep, I have pulled the pumpkin/driveshaft and lubed it and I even checked for axle alignment (no shim needed at the pumpkin/driveshaft tube) and I even swapped the inner/outer brake pads, changed the pumpkin oil. Before I put it all back together I will be lubing the shock & link pivot points. As they say, I am "all over it" -
So far I'm really enjoying having the lift adapter; however, I found that even with it, I had to jack the bike up higher in order to remove the rear wheel. Is this the "norm" or am I missing something? If it's the norm, perhaps Carbon One should make the legs longer...???

[GBRTK9] Fw: Virus coming!!
SilvrT replied to MidlifeVenture's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
And I have been running Windows XP since it came out along with AVG anti-virus, harware firewall, etc. and I've not once had a virus attack or a system crash. Times are changing tho and neither MAC nor Linux is totally "virus-proof" any more. Those of us who take various precautions such as you've mentioned above are the "smart ones" ... there are a lot of folks out there who don't do these things and tend to live under that "false sense of security" because they think their MAC or Linux box is "virus-proof". (just a word of warning I give ... folks can take it or not, makes no diff to me) -

I'd suggest you're living under a false sense of security.... unless of course you never connect to the internet. The fact is, there are viruses that attack MAC's as well as Linux OS ... they just aren't as common. And there is anti-virus software for both of those OSes. -
Which spark plugs to use
SilvrT replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Folks can "chastise" me all day long for buying Iridium plugs but it's my money and my preference and that's all that matters. As for the Champions, I've never had good performance out of them but they're good for lawnmowers and chainsaws LOL -
Any good quality Vinyl spray paint found at places like Walmart, Canadian Tire, automotive paint suppy stores, etc will do the job and it won't affect the chrome buttons...those you can just wipe it off. I did the brown seat on my '87 ... changed it to grey and it did a fine job.

I installed NGK Iridium plugs ... DPR8EIX-9 ... a "tad" expensive tho. I'd never use Champion ... never never never. -

Great pic Brian ... that area is known as Coal Harbour and is taken from the seawall along Stanley Park. To the right of the pic ... one of the buildings is where Nina works and I'm about 4 blocks away. It definately is a very vibrant and beautiful city but it's not without it's "big city troubles". One of the interesting and probably different things about Vancouver is it's diverse cultures. You can walk down the street and out of 100 people you pass, 5 of them might be caucasian...the rest are from almost every other country with the majority being Asian.

I should clarify ... that Youtube is a new ad. I'm not sure who's responsible for promoting the Olympics outside the local area. I think this particular ad is more to promote BC in conjunction with the Olympics. Here's the local newspaper blurb... http://www.theprovince.com/travel/government+releases+star+studded+tourism/2445800/story.html

So, I'm wondering... how many of you "south of the border" (or anywhere outside of Canada) are aware of the 2010 Winter Olympics here this year? How did you hear about it? Are you coming? Does our advertising adequately promote it in your area? As with my " I " basket ... it seems you have to "badger" Yamaha sometimes to get satisfaction. Point being, don't take "NO" for the first (or even third) answer. They tried to pull that "normal" & "characteristic" B/S on me too.
