One would think so but then how can you accurately determine that unless you could live life over again and not be a motorcycle rider ... (forget it! ain't gonna happen! couldn't imagine life without a scoot!) All kidding aside tho, there's no doubt in my mind that riding a motorcycle has made me a far more defensive driver than anyone I know who doesn't ride a scoot.

Another of Harley's aggressive promos/advertising no doubt. Riding the RSV, I bet most Best Western managers/counter staff wouldn't know the difference between it and a Harley LOL

I've just replaced my plugs with the Iridium ones. I have about the same mileage as you and the original plugs were still in good condition. Other things you should do at this stage (besides changing oil and filter)... Remove the rear wheel and grease those splines real good. Remove the 5-pin "damper" and clean it up and lube it real good (there's a circlip that holds it in). Swap the inner and outer rear brake pads. Pull the pumpkin and lube the splines on the driveshaft (both ends). Lube all pivot points on the rear shock. Check steering head bearing load (adjustment). Check the carb sync if you have the tool. There are writeups on all of the above somewhere on the site.

Same for me but thanks for this great idea albeit a "tad" late for me LOL

Torque refers to the force required to move an object..eg. the more torque, the heavier the object that can be moved. Horsepower refers to the ability to move something along once it gets going. I guess that would be "my" interpretation I guess from your post you already know that... so I have no idea why I posted this ...

I dunno... seems so many of y'all have more vehicles than ya know what to do with. I've had a lot of vehicles during my life but not more than 3 at any one time ... nowadays we rarely drive the 4 wheeled one anywhere and surely no need for multiples of those. 1996 Dodge Dakota SLT extended cab V8 2wd ... 302,000 kms and purrs like a kitten. In 2 years since we got it we've only put on appx 10,000 kms and other than the scoot, that's the only vehicle we have. Public transit gets us back and forth to work and the scoot takes us on whatever trips we do.

Pipes, Carbs, Airbox 08 Venture
SilvrT replied to Reed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I rarely check my gas mileage and for the most part, don't really care unless it's so bad that I'm stopping for gas before I need a smoke I was getting around 46 mpg on the '87 and I know I can go farther on the '06 before needing gas than on the '87 so I'm happy with that. (yes, I know the tank is bigger) -
I'd thought about the "hitch pin" method too....just haven't gotten around to getting some. Another idea I am contemplating is putting wheels on the leg base plates. 'nuther one of those "round toit's". Considering the slight movement of the legs in the adapter slots, I'm not sure if I'd retain the stability tho. Possibly a "U" shaped base might work ... the adapter legs would just sit on it ...

yup... mine did too but I understand why that is ... not everyone wants numbers or dots on the shiny black surfaces that everyone can see.

For the most part ... general maintenance items, minimally you'll need a set of metric allen wrenches with a "ball end", a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm sockets and wrenches, screw driver with changeable bits, pliers, crescent wrench big enuf for the rear wheel axle nut.... and... ??? I have both standard and deep sockets. Can't recall the mm size for the spark plugs but you'll need one of those plus a short extension for the rachet. I prefer the swivel-head rachet.

Which spark plugs to use
SilvrT replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
and you do that so very well As was my purpose .... to provide not only my opinion but also my experiance. As for the following statement I made.... Allow me to retract that and re-state as follows (for balancing purposes) ... "As for the Champions, I've never cared for them even though, for the most part, they seemed to work just fine 98% +/- of the time when I did use them (many years ago); however, for an inexpensive plug, they seemed to do just fine in lawnmowers and chainsaws" -
Which spark plugs to use
SilvrT replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sensible logic; however, it could also be said that, while Champion plugs function well under the worst conditions, they may well not function as good under higher combustion pressures, leaner and cleaner fuels and high-output ignitions.... ya think maybe??? I recall years ago when I pulled wrenches for a living, we had a spark plug tester in the shop and we'd test the old plugs under varying loads to see if they were good or not (even if they looked good, they could still fail) ... then we'd test the new plugs just to ensure we weren't putting in a faulty one ... I'd guess in a box of 100 Champion plugs, at least 1 or more were faulty in that they would start to fail long before max load. Now, if we didn't check them, that would mean an unsatisfied tuneup customer 1 time in 100 ... not good for business. In those days it was generally Champion or AC Delco if I remember right ... can't recall if NGK was commonplace or not ... if they were, we probably didn't use them due to higher price. Just my eggspeareance here... so since those days I have never used a Champion plug ... but, times have changed and maybe they've improved ... but I'll stick with NGK and for my scoot, I'll go with the Iridium. After all, there's only 4 of them and it's gonna take me a few years before they reach end of life. -
Removing rear wheel with bike on CarbonOne lift adapter
SilvrT replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
That's essentially what I did except, I already had the bike sitting on the free-standing adapter when I removed the wheel. Realizing I couldn't get it all the way out, I rolled the jack under, lifted it up high enuf and pulled the wheel out. In doing so, I angled the wheel a bit bottom out towards the right side and wiggled it past the fender and bag frame. I'd already done this once before I acquired the adapter, using the jack only and my own make-shift frame support. It was an added "comfort" to have my "assistant" holding the scoot steady. -
yeah... that's not important at all... that's why I painted numbers 1 thru 4 on mine .... :rotf:
