Glenn, have you done a search on this site for Road King? There's ton's of info. To answer your question, they are a "slip on" fit. You will need a bracket for the rear mount and I'd recommend getting the V-Twin clamps. Info on all of this is in several places on the site. Yes, they do sound better IMHO. I have them and I've drilled out the baffles and I really love the sound and total cost to me was under $100 CAN.

It would be no more difficult than changing to Road King mufflers and that is a breeze.

Port Moody & Langley I'll probably wind up getting a Clearview but since I was "poking around" bike shops, thought I'd pop the question while there ... had a feeling I wouldn't have much luck LOL On another note Celt... how's the "abstaining" going and what about that guitar stuff eh? Thought I'd drop into a couple of our local Yamaha shops and see what was available for windshields (other than stock). Like a wider one and maybe a bit shorter than stock. So, I asked the question.. "What options do you offer for windshields for a Royal Star Venture?" First dealer: "We have a few different ones but you also have to buy the mounting hardware." Me: "What mounting hardware? The windshield bolts to the existing fairing bracket." First dealer: "For what kind of bike is it?" Me: "A 2006 Royal Star Venture" First dealer: "Let me look" ... she goes through a couple catalogues muttering about the brackets and then says "We don't list anything for 2006, only 1996 thru 2001 for a Royal Star" Me: " I said Royal Star Venture.... they are made from 1999 thru 2010 and are all the same" First dealer: "Well, I don't list anything and you'll still probably have to buy the mounting kit" Me: "Forget it!" and I walked out. Second Dealer: (I asked the same question but spoke with a sales rep) "Yamaha sells one. I'll get a printout for you" He comes back and sure enuf, it's a shorter, wider one... to the tune of $288. Me: "What about non-Yamaha ones...??" Second Dealer: "I don't think anyone makes them ... and if they did, the quality just wouldn't be there." Me: "OK, thanks" ... and I leave. geeeeeesh! What the heck is the matter with these people around here... they just don't cater to the "touring rider" by offering much of anything in the way of accessories for the RSV, let alone knowing much about them it seems. I remember several years ago when I had my '85 Venture I had to go to a Kawasaki shop to get a new "non-Yamaha" windshield and a pair of Jardine mufflers coz the local Yammi dealer "couldn't get them".... it must be that Yamaha is very restrictive as to what their dealers can / can not sell.

Don't count on it... it seems to have worked for some but not all and it certainly didn't work for me. Only after I changed to the "I" basket did my whine "go away". Then again, that doesn't work for all either.

You worked for Navistar?... so did I. I managed their Idealease operations in Calgary, AB mid 80's. I was just getting into programming at the time and me and another salesman developed a truck specing application that we sold to a few of the dealers. Right after that Navistar came out with their own and the dealers got it shoved down their throats to the tune of several grand if I recall correctly. (sorry...not meaning to hijack the thread)

YVW ... that was when I bought the scoot in Calgary, Alberta and hauled it back to Vancouver ... appx 1300 kilometers. Had no problems at all.

The engine design was made back in the day when bikes had centre stands. Not likely they'd re-design the engine just for that....?

yeah... I do that too when we're out on the road and "clumsy" wasn't forgotten.... it was part of the "etc" I do agree that the blocks may not be the best method and the mirror is a great idea but when I'm at home and the bike is in the garage, I use the wooden block method. Maybe "when" I get a mirror, I will discontinue using the blocks.

Yes, they are completely different; however, that in itself is a "comparison" .... as in "this one is completely different" so that being said we are simply comparing apples to oranges and noting the "comparative differences". If we did this with 2 identical bikes such as 2 '06 RSMV's (which of course are the nicest and fastest of all the 2nd gens ) then we are comparing apples to apples. Am I getting too "teschnikal" ? .... maybe I need to find some work to do... either than or go take a ride LOL (it's the PMS so plz forgive me)

I guess a lot of it depends on the individual, their self-confidence, physical ability/strength, etc, etc .... consider this... stand off your bike and roll it along the ground ... if you can do this with confidence, you should have the same level of confidence putting a couple 2x4's under the sidestand and getting off the bike on the right while still holding it steady. Unless the bike has been lowered or the shocks are sagging or something of that nature, the bike should be able to sit by itself with the 2x4's under the sidestand as the balance point is just a bit left of centre (at least on mine it is) and this can be assured and accomplished by pulling up on the right handlebar. as the saying goes... "try it ... you might like it" Having said the above, I do realize that folks with shorter legs and wider bod's than mine might not be able to accomplish such feats of bravery LOL And I do like the "mirror" method idea... just haven't gotten a "round toit"

I've had an '85, an '87 and now the '06 The '85 handled the best and it was the fastest. I could really push that bike in the corners and still feel comfortable and confident. The '87 wasn't quite as good in the corners and I didn't feel comfortable when pushing it to higher speeds. I had the '85 up to 215 km/h (133 mph) ... took the '87 to 180 km/h and just didn't feel good about going faster. The '06 does not have the "oooomph" that either of the other 2 did. I'm definately not as confident in the curves with it but I just installed a 130/90 front tire and haven't had a chance to test that out in the twisties yet. As for top end, been to 200 km/h with it and it's great...no worries about taking it higher.

I place a block of either 2, 2x4's or a 4x4 under the sidestand. I then yank up a bit on the right handlebar and hold that as I ease off the bike on the right side. With upward pressure on the right handlebar, I then place my left hand on the edge of the seat and apply pressure towards the left side of the bike as I bend down and check the sight glass... then reverse the process as I get back on the bike and then push out the wood block. I've done this so many times it's a breeze...but, if you're somewhere and don't have a block of wood that size.... ???? (maybe carry one with ya?)

Forget the woodpile and get out on that scoot for a ride. I'm taking Friday off to go riding and Nina & I will be out riding Sunday. Saturday we're gonna spend the day taking in as much free Olympic stuff as we can. Hope we still have energy left for the Sunday ride LOL

It's crazy ... normally these ski hills have lots of snow this time of year and last year was a record for the area. Even at my house from mid Dec 08 thru end of Jan 09 we had a lot of snow and that is unusual.

yup.... that is a bit of a problem alright; however, Whistler still has a good base .... it's just the local hills that have a problem (Cypress, etc). As for giving it away, I heard they were trucking snow in to the local hills from about 150-200 miles away at $1,000 a truckload! Dunno how true that is but I wouldn't doubt it. Since the days will be clear, the nights up on the hills will be cold...near zero celcius so they should be able to make snow but then when the daytime heating starts it will cause more problems as the freezing level will rise higher than the tallest peaks at the ski hills. At least no rain in the forecast for the next several days so that is a good thing.

yes, the norm is high 8 c and low 2 c (not far off) when I mentioned 10-15, they are expecting 10 down here near the water and 15 inland so, guess where I will be heading LOL
