HID headlight installed
SilvrT replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rick, I see there are 4 different ones so which one specifically did you order ... Standard Digital Slim 12 v 55/55W 24V 35W ????? -
There was one in the middle and one close to each end.

Can you elaborate on "steer to the rear" ?

I'd like to comment on the "pebbles and marbles" comments.... Do you guys really do this??? What a perfect way to piss off a cage driver and have them commit road rage against you. What a perfect way to diminish the perception of "a biker" by those who don't ride. Committing acts such as this cannot accomplish anything constructive IMHO. Sorry guys ... that is just not something I can condone. geeeez .. and it was me who suggested pelting them with rotten eggs and tomatoes.... :rotf:

HID headlight installed
SilvrT replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think I posted a link for that supplier a week or so back... they are located in Prince George, Bc I believe. Some interesting products which I'll eventually be dropping some bucks on from them. -
Changing to the I-basket was the only thing that quieted the whine in mine... I tried all the different oil cobinations including the Motorkote. I currently run Shell Rotella T 15w40 and some motorkote and it's sounding pretty good although I don't think one will ever get rid of the whine completely...at least it's now tolerable. I started up my son's Harley Sportster on sunday and I gotta tell ya, there's absolutely no whiney or rattley engine sounds from that motor. It's tight and quiet including when you drive it. Of course, there's the Screamin Eagle pipes that give off a great rumble.

what???? and here I thought this thread was about underpants/swimwear....

Dunno if they are still available but there used to be those wire "springy" things you could attach to your bumper that warned you when you got too close to the curb..... can you imagine that...springy wires sticking out from all sides of your scoot...all tied to a warning device that, when activated by a cage too close to you, caused a cannon to start pelting them with rotten eggs and tomatoes, etc....

heh... that's like buying a cadillac versus an plain jane chev ... both with get you from point A to B but because it says "Cadillac" (or Yamaha) it costs twice as much. I went to buy a snack yesterday...looked at chocolate bars, etc... decided on a yummy "power bar" .... basically the same as a chocolate bar... but when I went to pay for it the clerk said... "that's $2.45 please" ... WHAAAATTT??? he said "yep, it's a power bar sir!" geeeeeesh! I guess you could be thankful you aren't riding a Harley... (not to suggest there's anything wrong with them...)

That would be cool Rick; however, Nina & I had already decided we weren't going to be able to make this trip ... and I just now found out about the rally being cancelled. We decided mostly due to the cost ... other things have recently come up and it just didn't fit into our budget anymore so we've now planned a trip out to Saskatchewan, camping along the way with our "new" trailer in tow, then returning via some route in the US...all in the same time of year. We chose Sask because Nina's mom lives out there...and of course, we'll probably stop in and visit Brian (friesman1).

Good idea -but- ... only if WE are the Truck drivers

Every one of those cage drivers should ride a motorcycle for a day... they would soon realize what we all have to deal with (stupid ignorant cage drivers) every day we ride. Maybe, just maybe then it will be a safer world for us out there.

EGADS! Where did my MPG go?
SilvrT replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
only reason I can think of for a guy to spend 7 years in Moose Jaw is .... hey, isn't there a prison around there somewhere?... -
I am still running the stock dunlop D404 on the rear. It has 4/32 tread depth still. New is 9/32. I have over 20,000 km's on it (that's over 12,000 miles). I've replaced my front tire coz it was almost worn out.

Inexpensive (Cheap) XM Radio? Roady2 v. RoadyXT?
SilvrT replied to in flagrante's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Not sure about other Sirius/XM radio's but mine came with a 5 volt adapter that plugs into a cig socket aka aux power. I bought another one (coz I didn't want to use the one in the fairing) and wired it up inside the fairing, where it is out of sight. The Sirius radio sends it's audio to a "Y" splitter off the audio input that is connected to the cassette. It then uses the "AUX" setting on the bikes stereo. I routed the antenna wiring inside the fairing and placed the sensor mid-point on the dash (you can see this in my pic). Hope some of this helps. -
windshield left the bike at 50 mph
SilvrT replied to chopper pilot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
...with the exception of one which isn't. yep... check everything ... yesterday, after remembering what others here have posted, I checked my saddlebag hinges and sure enuf, the screws were loose. Ya gotta go over these bikes with a fine tooth comb otherwise you'll be the envy of every Hardly owner (more parts falling off than them)- 20 replies

Inexpensive (Cheap) XM Radio? Roady2 v. RoadyXT?
SilvrT replied to in flagrante's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I use a Sirius Stratus 5 and I used the car "vent" mount that came with it. I secured it with a couple small zap ties. Works great. -
If you're at all handy with a variable speed jigsaw, a ruler, some masking tape, a pencil, and a file, cutting down the windshield is quite easy. The main thing is to not try and cut too fast with the jigsaw... medium speed and very light forward pressure. I could provide instruction but that already exists somewhere on this site. Oh yeah... and a steady hand helps too... Make a template of the top of your windshield with a piece of cardboard or something such as a file folder. Lower that to where you want the top to be and trace the edge and there you have your cut line.

Rattle Rattle
SilvrT replied to vic venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
the rattle is most likely from the inner (or inside) plastic panels. They tend to wear at the mounting points and become loose. Had this problem with my '87. You'll need to take off the outer fairing to get at them. -
If that's the case, good deal and a cheap way to "use" a scoot for a couple months...

You might "think" you got away with it .... I'd be willin to bet that statement will come back to haunt you.

Some good chatter there re: straight cut versus helical gears .... makes me appreciate my Yammi more.
