I tried that too and got pretty much the same result. I've since changed the basket to the I basket and am using Rotella T 15w40 non-synthetic and it's fairly quiet in comparison to when I had the G basket; however, there is still a "whine" ... just not enuf to bother me anymore. -

hey Doug...thanks... shoot me the name, contact info when you have it handy. I'm contemplating doing the mod myself; however, Speedy Mufflers on 72nd close to King George has/had an upholstery guy there that does great work on motorcycle seats... he did the one on my '85 including the backrest and it was a superb job.

I have no issue with traffic that is already into the intersection waiting to make the left turn when the light turns red...they must then clear the intersection because it is illegal to back up across the crosswalk. The delayed green is specifically for that purpose ... it's those drivers who haven't even passed thru the crosswalk that go anyway when the light turns red....and probably because they "know there's a delay" but that delay was not intended for them and they should not proceed (aka push the red).

ok, maybe I eggzaggerated a wee tad...maybe 5 or 10 seconds... I dunno... but now ya got me wonderin so I am gonna time them next chance I get and I'll report back on the EXACT delay time.

Many people, from my observance, are "followers". The "monkey see - monkey dooers" ... not a lot ya can do to change that mentality....that's just who they are but it sure can be frustrating sometimes to those who aren't ... and maybe vice versa.

nope... the one I'm looking for had pics showing how to remove an internal section of the seat and put something different in it... like different foam or a gel pad... and then put the cover back on.

Here, when the cross street light turns red, there is appx a 30 second pause before the green light comes on... supposedly I guess to compensate for the same situation. Even with that though, it's common practise, at least for me, to look both ways before proceeding on the green because it's not uncommon for vehicles, especially those who are turning left, to go against a red. They might be sitting behind a couple other vehicles that are out into the intersection waiting to turn, while they at the time are still at or behind the crosswalk....light changes, cars in the intersection go and the guy that's 3rd, even though he's not into the intersection goes anyway....they seem to think that since they are there, they have the right to proceed....as if they are hooked to the back bumper of the vehicle ahead of them or something. jerks!

Somewhere there is a thread explaining / showing how to modify the stock RSV seat to reduce pressure on the tailbone. Seems I recall a gel pak involved. anyone have a link for this thread? I forgot who did it and can't seem to find it.

no "confrontation" taken my friend. You "may" be right but I don't believe so and here's why. Many people also use their PC's for gaming... how many games do you find on the shelves of stores for a Linux box or for that matter, even a MAC? Many people use specific software due to being compatible with their friends and/or work which IS NOT necessarilly compatible with Linux OS. Sure, there are workarounds to a lot of that but... it's much simpler to stick with the "norm" ... what other's are using so, having made that statement, maybe "have to" was literally incorrect. Personally, I would probably use Linux (you may recall other similar discussions that I'm no stranger to it); however, certain software I run at home cannot be run in a Linux environment for example, my Income Tax package, my Remote Connection to work, MS Access, and my games. I have ran dual-boot systems (Linux and Windows) but it's a pain in the butt to re-boot just to run certain apps so, it's much simpler just to stick with Windows. BTW, I apologize for what might seem to be hijacking this thread as this discussion isn't addressing the issue brought forward.

So there we were (Nina & I), stopped at a red light on a 4-lane street, with left turn lanes, us in the inside lane waiting for the green to go straight thru. I'm watching the light for it to turn yellow for the cross traffic. We're first out. Light changes yellow...then red and..... BANG! Two cars travelling opposing direction on the cross street collide right in front of us. One was making a left turn, the other going straight thru. The one going straight thru (a red car) hit the one turning left (a blue car) near the right rear door and caused it to slide a bit. The red car stopped, the blue car regained control, made the turn and stopped at the curb. They both RAN THE RED LIGHT !!! So I get out to offer assistance to the driver of the red car...still stopped in the middle of the intersection. She asked for my info (which I would have given her) but I said "you should know that both of you ran the red light". She immediately argued that and didn't want my info so I thought "too bad" and I left. (nobody was injured). I reported it to the police and gave my statement to ICBC (govern't insurance co). My thinking is, if I can do anything to stop idiots who are in too much of a hurry that they run a red light, I will. Danged if I'm going to let either one of those drivers get away with that! ps... we weere in the truck, not the scoot, on our way to work.

Unfortunately, some of us... well, in fact MOST of us... HAVE TO and that's just the way it is. Those, like yourself (I believe you're on a Linux or MAC machine?), who are fortunate enuf to be able to do all they "need" to do on a MAC or Linux box are.... well, fortunate. That being said, such situations as this are not exempt just because a given person is using a Linux or MAC machine.

One thing that some folks do is send out forwarded emails. They address them TO: everyone in their contact list. This email now has embedded in it all those addy's PLUS all the addy's of whoever forawrded it to them, and so on.... Spyware/viruses somewhere on somebody's computer can pick up those addy's and start distributing spam emails using any one of those addy's as the SENDER. Never put peoples email addy's in the TO box when you send to multiple recipients... use the BCC box for that and NEVER forward such emails... create a new one and copy/paste the body part of the message, leaving out all the other "crap" such as all those embedded email addy's that it was forwarded to.

Here's a little "trick" that used to work ... not sure if it still does. Create a new entry in your address book with name of 000000000 (that's zeros) and email addy of ooooooooo@nowhere.com (false addy) This becomes the first entry in the address book When the "bot" sends to this addy, it will get a fail and once a fail has been detected, the bot stops. That's how it used to be but that was years ago so like I said, dunno if that still works.

Contrary to some other replies, I am in agreement with you. I think I would have gotten a little "irate" myself..especially after having such a discussion with the shop manager and going over the bike to inspect it prior to them taking it in. I also agree that they should have set the hard bags down on clean shop towels. This is much the same as putting fender mats over the fenders of a car/truck when working inside the engine compartment. Granted, we will get scratches, etc but doing all that can be done to reduce that occurrence is something some of us are very particular about. Maybe your actions will help to improve their customer satisfaction as no doubt such things (or worse) have happened to other's scoots while in that shop.

If it wasn't clear coated then the edge would be "sharp" ... you would be able to catch the edge with a razor knife or for that matter, any knife. On my '85 and my '87, the pinstrips are clear coated over... same thing on my '83 wing and I'm guessing they are on the 2nd gens that have striping as well so I would suspect these "flames" would be also. Someone go down to a dealer that has one of these and when nobody is looking, see if you can lift the edge of the flame with a knife....
