prolly coz our brains are frozen and can't think straight..... Wife and I are lucky that we live in a mobile home, in a 55+ park, that we bought fairly cheap 2 years ago that is now paid for. We only pay pad rent but even that isn't cheap @ $866/mo. 11 years ago, when we met and started living together, we rented a 1 bdrm apartment in Burnaby (which is a suburb of sorts of Vancouver) and were paying $700/mo then. That same apartment now rents for appx $1200/mo. PLUS utilities excluding heat! As for "the frozen north" .... when you compare our climate here in the Vancouver area at this time to many parts of the USA, I'd say we are living in a tropical environment. We've just come through a 2 week cold snap which is unusual for here where the temps dropped to minus 8 celcius (17.6 f). Normally it rarely goes below zero for any length of time. I'll retire next July and we'll then become "Snow Birds" ... winter in Florida or Arizona ... summer back here.

This was reported back in September..... "An average-priced detached home throughout Greater Vancouver now costs $1,470,265, compared to $1,764,682 in July." We're currently sliding rapidly. The rental market is (or has been) at an all-time low running around 0.6 % vacancy with prices for a 2 bdrm apartment running well over $2,000/month. It's ******* crazy!!

..... Beer contains female hormones! Yes, that's right, FEMALE hormones. Last month, Montreal University and scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption. The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and tha tby drinking enough beer, men turn into women. To test the theory, 100 men each drank 8 schooners of beer within a one(1) hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects, yes, 100% of all these men: 1) Argued over nothing. 2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong. 3) Gained weight. 4) Talked excessively without making sense. 5) Became overly emotional 6) Couldn't drive. 7) Failed to think rationally, and 8 ) Had to sit down while urinating. No further testing was considered necessary! Send this to the men you know to warn them about drinking too much beer!

I am soooooooo looking fwd to spending the winter months (Nov 2017 - Jan 2018) in Florida! It's been a cold one around here this past couple weeks. Minus Celsius temps daily and snow ... very uncharacteristic for this part of the province. Still see the odd rider out though.

I've had many people tell me I'm losing my logs but never a car full of nuns

no problem here but what about those poor bums you don't call "friends" ... don't you care about them? -
Yup! Sold the Roady today. :bawling: Been 20 years since last time I was without a ride. Will I ride again? Maybe ... but not in the forseeable future... unless I rent one. Still gonna hang around here and stir up trouble though.

thanks but no apology necessary. I "get it".

We are on the verge of it being legal here in Canada. Even though it isn't, some localities "approve" of it (medical version that is) and here in Vancouver we have several "authorized" dispensaries as well as medical grow-ops in the area. Almost anyone with some kind of symptoms can get their Dr to "prescribe" it and from that a person gets a card that allows them to purchase and consume it. Of course, the strains are cultured for medical purposes as opposed to "getting high". Certain chemicals in the plants that cause a person to get high are eliminated whereas other chemicals that help suppress various symptoms are enhanced (based on my somewhat limited but un-tested knowledge LOL) As I understand it, several US states have also legalized it.

snyper316 ... have you considered medical marijuana? Nothing to do with that but ... most of my life, even while growing up, I've always had difficulty breathing through my nose. Years ago (around 1974) I went to a Dr. and had a bunch of tests done including xRays of my sinus. He said there was nothing wrong and I was just congested due to a cold. Yasureright I thought. Again in around 1978 I went to a different Dr. ... more tests ... same response from Dr., same thought from me. It was about then a product called Otrivin came available ... remember the commercial .... "ohh dri bid" ... "oh dri vin" ... "otrivin". so I tried it ... worked wonders and then I could keep my mouth shut and breathe thru my nose. I've been using the stuff regularly ever since. Yes, some say (including Drs) that it does more harm than good, that one becomes addicted to it, that over time it takes more and more to attain the same result. For some, maybe... not for me. I've tried other, similar products including stupid inhalers prescribed by Drs ... either they didn't work or they worked too well and I wound up with severe nose bleeds. I don't use the stuff any more frequently today than I did at any time during all those years and in fact, probably use it less often (3-4 times in a 24 hr day). It still works. Crazy now though ... they've come up with all kinds of variations of it but the old, original formula does the job. I hesitate to go again to a Doctor simply because the times in the past were .... a big fat waste of time.

As an IT professional I am always open to new and evolving technology. As a Canadian I am not a subscriber to "made in the USA" although if it's a Canadian product I would favor it as long as it was better and/or equal to or less expensive to something made elsewhere. I have done my research on PC Matic and ruled it out as a possible A/V solution simply because it uses a "white list / black list" method of prevention and it's high rate of false positives. Every A/V program out there has their pros and cons and few if any at all will catch all virus/malware all of the time. People who develop viruses are always going to be one-step ahead of the A/V until a prevention can be developed and rolled out. Some are not as quick as others to do that. I've had a few times over the years where I've had to run 2 or 3 different A/V cleaners in order to eradicate a virus from someone's computer and even had instances where it was totally impossible and only a full refresh including a low level hard drive format would work.

Not only that but they "conceal" the Auto-renew or at least make it inconspicuous. Then there's the one's that tell you it will auto renew but at the fine print on the bottom of the page tell you you have to advise them 15 days before it renews that you want to cancel it (or something like that). The fine print of course is so small you need a magnifying glass to read it and is generally out of visibility (more than a screen down).

I used to use AVG but switched to Avast as it did not use as much system resources (at that time).

I'm not totally certain about this; however, according to them I signed up in Sep 2015 with an introductory offer of $14.95 for the first year. (I just found that out). It was somewhere on that signup where the "auto renewal" was pre-checked or pre-authorized. This could be correct although I sure don't recall doing it and it baffles me that I would not have caught that if I did sign up as I'm super cautious of such things. Oh well, $hit happens and $50 bucks won't break me but it's the "sneaky" method that gets my dander up and apparently many others. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=111949.0 https://www.scambook.com/search/reports?search=nexway http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/nexwaysoftwarecom-avast-renewal-without-permission-c710969.html Just some of the links I found.

Yup ... and IMO, it's a good A/V. I use an enterprise version at my work. (from wikipedia) Kaspersky Lab ranks fourth in the global ranking of antivirus vendors by revenue.[3] It was the first Russian company to be included into the rating of the world’s leading software companies, called the Software Top 100 (79th on the list, as of 6/29/2012). Kaspersky Lab is ranked 4th in Endpoint Security segment according to IDC data for 2010.[4] According to Gartner, Kaspersky Lab is currently the third largest vendor of consumer IT security software worldwide and the fifth largest vendor of Enterprise Endpoint Protection. Kaspersky Lab has been named a "Leader" in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms.[5] Analysts say suspicions about the firm’s Russian roots have hindered its expansion in the United States. The Kaspersky Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) has discovered sophisticated espionage platforms such as Equation Group and the Stuxnet worm. Various covert government-sponsored cyber-espionage efforts were uncovered through their research. Kaspersky also publishes the annual Global IT Security Risks Survey.[6] As of 2014, Kaspersky's research hubs analyze more than 350,000 malware samples per day.[7]

I have been using Avast FREE A/V for many, many years and I've installed in on many computers over those years. It has always served me well .... until recently. A couple weeks ago I noticed a charge against my credit card in the amount of $49.95 from Avast-Nexway. WHAT??? Apparently for renewing my subscription to their full version. So I did some investigating and discovered I was not the only one getting charged for something they did not purchase from this company. How they got my cc info is beyond me as I never, ever purchased their product nor did I ever provide them with my cc info. What I found out is apparently when you go download the free version, somewhere there is a indiscriminate check box signing you up for their full version. Again, how they get the cc info I don't know but they did. So my friends, be warned .... this could happen to you. Meanwhile, I have disputed it and have been reimbursed. I've also removed Avast from my computer and have purchased and installed Kaspersky with NO automatic renewal. On top of that I've had my cc cancelled and replaced with a new one (different account #). That is a pain because now I have to go and update all accounts that legitimately auto-renew as well as places like PayPal, Amazon, etc. etc. .

There's two of them but the one I use is Hagens of Blaine. Don't know the name of the other one. It costs $5 US for each delivery unless you buy an annual membership for $22.50. Then it's only $2.50 each time. You can also ship stuff from there.
