Real story.... So, I get into the elevator at work yesterday and 2 other guys get in. One is older ... maybe 60 or so. No idea what they had been talking about earlier but the older guys says to his friend.... "When I was young I got married and made one woman miserable. Had I stayed single, I could have made several women happy! "

If it had the EGR delete, head studs replaced, couple other things (commonly known as Bullet Proofing) it's probably ok ... without that I wouldn't touch one. The first truck I looked at was a mint, low mileage '06 F350 4x4 XLT Lariat quad cab 6.0 diesel. Had not had anything done to it ... I walked. Funny thing is, many folks have never had problems with them ... but they are generally the one's with gobs of bucks and do all the maintenance when it's due without fail. FWIW if I haven't already mentioned it, my 5th wheel has a GVWR of 12,340 with a dry weight of 8825.

Considering our budget and what is out there we were limited to model years 2000 - 2007. Even a really good 2007 would have been out of reach. The Trailer Tow Rating on my F350 is 13,200. To find an F250 in model years 2000-2007 with the same power, etc is unheard of practically. As far as diesels go in that same range, add another 5 grand and I'd be lucky to find anything that had decent mileage. Ford diesels were the least costly, compared to Chev and Dodge and there was several to choose from but then you have to deal with all of the problems associated to the 6.0 L engine. The older 7.3 diesel was bullet proof but just did not have the power of the 6.0 L. Buying a used diesel of that age is a big risk. As for the difference in fuel mpg, while the V10 is a gas eater, over the long term it still worked out to be far less costly to operate vs a diesel of the same age. I did do some very in-depth research and calculations to arrive at that conclusion. IMO, I got the right truck for the job. (now if only I won the lotto! ... I did get a free play on the last draw.....)

Soul, all good stuff and seeing as you're new here, we'll let you off the hook ...... this time :stickpoke:. That said......

Yup, we had to trade our mint, low mileage '05 Silverdo 1500 in on this Ford F350. To be able to afford it we had to drop 2 model years and settle for a vehicle that had 100,000 more kilometers on it. But the Ford is in mint condition and it was already set up for towing a 5th wheel. And yes, we had to fork out some . Had done some looking at diesel trucks but the long range difference in maintenance and fuel costs plus the initial price was just out of the question. The V10 engine in this Ford is apparently rock solid and there's lots of folks who have them for pulling a trailer and many who've gotten rid of their diesel in favor of a V10.

Hi Dale, yes, I sold the Roady about a month ago. We made the deal on the RV today! So pumped! Will take delivery in a couple weeks. Gotta find a place to store it until we're ready to use it. BTW, we'll be in your neck of the woods sometime August so would sure like to hook up with you and Doug Ivy as we're passing through. let's keep in touch.

"CCC" is Cargo Carrying Capacity I googled it and it shows 3645 lbs. The fresh, black, and grey capacities come out to 199 gal so if full that would weigh 1751 lbs leaving 1893 for your "stuff" ... not a lot if you stuck a 900 lb motorcycle in the back. Before I sold the Road Star we thought about getting a toy hauler but when we realized how little capacity we'd have after sticking the roady inside, we decided against it. Granted, our situation is different as we need something for full-time RVing, not just weekends or a couple weeks.

Niiiice! what's the ccc on it?
-
Looking doesn't cost anything ..... We'd originally thought Class A but then ya need a toad and then there's the maintenance and repairs, and, and, ..... we settled on truck / trailer and I don't care for bumper pull so 5th wheel it is.

We have an '03 F-350 with a V10 gasser and 4.30 differential gears. No issue haulin the trailer ... BIG fuel drain on the bankroll but still less expensive than a diesel.

Yup! Got the Truck, soon the RV ... times a passin ... but not fast enuf! So pumped!

I can't say if this was actually in Vancouver or not but if it isn't, it's sure representative of some of the dumb-arse drivers around here. LOL

Yup! ... it all boils down to profit margin and they're not the first mfg to drop a line due to that ... Pontiac, Oldsmobile come to mind. Now with Polaris it's "sorry, we don't sell Victory any more but hey, we got a great deal on this Indian over here..." and all of a sudden Indian motorcycle sales skyrocket! A few years later, when Indian is practically dominating the market .... "Polaris announces the return of the Victory line...." .... It's nothing but a F%$&ing game!
