1. How ironic I should come across this today .... http://news.sympatico.ca/oped/coffee-talk/supreme_court_rules_against_manipulative_sweepstakes_marketing/ae726c5d
2. heh ... been there... done that ... "sorry sir, you have to buy another coffee to play again" Of interest here tho is McD's will give you a free refill ... nobody else does that I am aware of. Starbucks charges an arm and a leg for their coffee yet they give no breaks on refills.
3. And that's a big problem IMO with such mega-corporations and why customer service has taken a side-line to the bottom line. They simply don't give a chit if you, the odd whiner, doesn't come back. Many of the Tim Horton's around here have lineups most of the day. They push the odds and crunch the numbers and push as many people thru as they can with the fewest of staff that they can possibly do it with for the lowest pay they can get away with. It's nothing but a numbers game for them. They open a new store and they have staff stumbling over you to serve you and within a few months, they are no different than the next store that has been going for a while... lineups, poor service, marginally cleaned establishment, filthy washrooms ... yet volumes of business ... and there ain't a lot we can do about it. In this one small, inside mall downtown Vancouver that Nina & I pass through on our way to work every morning, there are two Tim Hortons outlets... one at each end of the mall. The second one just opened a few months ago. Every morning both of these places have lineups. The main one has 3 lines and they are generally 5 to 10 deep in each line. The same mall has a McDonalds and a Starbucks, not to mention a fair sized food court to serve the various businesses in the area. Adjacent to the mall is another Starbucks. Across the street is another Starbucks. At the end of that block is another coffee shop similar to Starbucks. Across the other street is another mall full of food establishments and coffee outlets. It's crazy! I need to get outta here LOL! Maybe I'm drinking too much coffee!! Maybe I needed to vent a lot more than I thought I did... And the little "mom and pop" places struggle and die ... it's the way of the future... no, heck, it's how it is now.
4. I think I should take up a new hobby...
5. yep, it's all true ...
6. ya.. I noticed that too ... but I was busy yappin in another thread so ya beat me to the punch!
7. ssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! don't say that word Andy ... the "police" will be all over this thread... :whistling:
8. I'm sure you're right Don. THorton's has had this "Roll up the rim" thing every year for several years now... this is the first time I've seen the "No purchase necessary" advertising. There is a lot of competition in this market, especially with McDonalds pushing their coffee. All last week McD's has had $1.00 off any size coffee. Several times over the past year they have run for a week long "free coffee" campaign at select outlets... that just so happen to be adjacent to Tim Hortons, surprise, surprise! and guess what... you didn't have to write in to McDonalds for the free coffee either LOL
9. yes, I know you are ... and I'm just having a ball here playing with this.. LOL
10. I do too ... when it's obviously unwarranted. btw, these people I referred to weren't high school kids and I wasn't being obtrusive. In fact, I wasn't raising my voice in any way ... however, I obviously was holding up those waiting while the clerk went into the back to rustle up a manager. Quite simply, I was asking for what I expected I should get and wasn't satisfied with a simple NO answer. That is everyone's right.
11. dang... sorry ... I left out a few "details" in my original post .... I did apologize to them...
12. When I read the sign, I was led to believe I could go to the counter and get a rollup cup. When I went to the counter, I was told NO, and to contact head office. (it was a bit more "forceful" than a simple NO) What would have been more appropriate IMHO, from both the clerk and the manager, would have been for them to politely explain that "yes, there is no purchase necessary but you have to write to Tim Horton's to get the free cup with no purchase. Here is where it states that in the rules....". END OF STORY. No fuss... no muss. SIMPLE. but nooooo ... for some reason that's just too difficult.
13. Not once did I say the advertising was false. I did say "I hate advertising" ... I did say "it could have been a bit more informative" ... I did say "the manager could have explained a bit better". No, I do not owe the clerk or the manager an apology ... what do you think I should apologize for? ... for asking for a free cup? Perhaps you've read more into my post than is actually there. You have a right to your opinion ... but that's all it is ... an opinion. It's not one I will deem worthy but thanks for voicing it anyway .
14. hmmmmmm... I just read my words above .... something must be eatin at me or I got up on the wrong side of the bed (or both) ... oh yeah... I know what it is... it's that ex wife problem ... has really riled me up!
15. Good point Andy but frankly, I just have a hard time putting up with stoooopid people who can barely speak engrish, have no brain of their own, move slower than molasses in January, and are nothing more than disfunctional robots. btw, both my daughters worked at McDonalds for a few years and even they can't understand some of these people's stupidity. (it's my thread and I'll vent if I want to... la de da...) LOL
16. :wel_ani4Tay: BACK!!!
17. coz I had a discount coupon for "up to 50% off" ....
18. and then thser's those ads that blast ya with "UP TO ...." or "AS LOW AS ..." yeahsurright and I just got off the cabbage truck too! I used to sell cars (many years ago) and "UP TO" was the fav catch phrase.... ME: "what difference are you thinking of sir?" .... HIM: "ohhh 5 grand" ... ME: "Up to...?" LOL
19. eeewwwwwwwwwwwwww !! and I just had lunch at McDonalds
20. yep... I left that door open, didn't I?
21. I hate advertising! Tim Horton's "Rrrrollup the Rim to win" campaign is on. Huge sign in the store with a rollup cup and writing below that. Very first sentence is.... "No purchase necessary." (see the pic below). So, I go over to the counter and ask for a rollup cup. "what size coffee you like sir?" ... no, I said, I don't want coffee ... I just want the cup. "oh no sir, you have to buy a coffee" ... course, I say "but your ad says no purchase necessary" ... "no sir, you have to purchase" ... get me a manager! ... out comes the manager "no sir, you have to purchase a coffee .... please call head office... they will explain ... blah blah" Ok, so I walk away (after causing a mini-scene with 20 customers lined up behind me). I go online and open their rules ... sure enough, you can get a rollup cup without making a purchase ..... 2. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO PLAY: In Canada, obtain a FREE Tim Hortons contest cup and/or a copy of the official rules, by writing to: Tim Hortons Contest Cup, P.O. Box 9162 Saint John, N.B. E2L 4Y2. In U.S.A., to receive a FREE contest cup and/or a copy of the official rules write to: Tim Hortons Contest Cup, P.O. Box 1315 Calais, ME 04619-6315. ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! The display ad (pic below) could have been a bit more informative and would have saved everyone a lot of wasted time and energy. I wonder how many other people have done what I just did... (or am I the only a-hole?) I also think the manager could have explained a bit better.
22. When exactly did that new style come out? My buddy bought a 1986 1100 Virago brand new. It was the one with the gold plating and the factory faded paint job (not decals either) black with red/orange inlay. Nice bike ... I think he still has it but I haven't seen him for about 5 years now. Anyhoo, I rode that scoot one summer from Kamloops, Bc to Salt Lake City, over to Reno, Sacramento, up the Oregon coast and into Vancouver and back to Kamloops. It surely wasn't a slab burner but a nice ride all the same.
23. "experiment" .... with my old Yashika my experimenting included such things as .... panning with a race car so the car is sharp but the rest of the scene is blurred. having the scene sharp and the race car blurred as it goes by. causing foreground and background of a specific object or person to be out of focus but not the object. taking scene shots at night, especially with vehicles going by, people moving, etc and having a blurred image of motion. taking shots with various lens filters. etc, etc... sure, you can do some of this with a inexpensive digital but imho, not as quickly or easilly as I could with that old Yashika once I got good at adjusting it's settings. After 10 years, I've totally forgotten how to do most of what I knew LOL As for now, with digital pics, yes, I do delve into playing with them using Corel Photopaint and/or other image editing apps. Lotsa Fun eh!
24. NO ... but I'm sure we can come up with other examples of what you'd look like...
