I don't even know why I got this danged thing ... costs me more than it's worth (to me). Was talking with some of the staff here the other day (all young ppl ... 20's) and the subject of Tiny Tim came up and his song Tiptoe Thru the Tulips ... one of the "kids" whipped his phone out and in seconds was playing that song. Suppose I could do that too but I just don't have the desire to play with all that other "stuff" this phone comes with. Would be interesting to see what some of these ppl's cell phone bills look like.

here I am again, now in open SuSe. Installation as easy as Ubuntu. KDE desktop ... I'm familiar with that. and FireFox hasn't crashed ... yet!

Yes, I nodis ... from reading. I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 ... really not my cuppa tea. FireFox has screwed up three times already LOL Think I'll try the latest version of Open SuSe as that's what I use at work albeit a much older version.

Well, just downloaded and installed Ubuntu and here I am. My system is just over 5 yrs old and Ubuntu is installed on an IDE HDD that's roughly 10 yrs old. System : AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ × 2 RAM : 2Gb

Well, payday isn't until Monday so I had to go rob the piggy ... dang thing would only spit out $11.99 and that's not even US funds so I went downtown and stood on the corner and begged ... took me almost 3 hours to get what I needed, came back here and paid my fee... $12 US= $12.50 CAD It was all worth the effort!!

What version? I used to use Norton Ghost ... used it extensively in my work. Switched to Acronis about 5 years ago. Used to use Symantec products but haven't been too pleased with them so dropped them. I remember the old DOS days ... I didn't go anywhere without a copy of Norton Utilities LOL ... it was a lifesaver back then for my clients.

What is a "minimal version" of Ubuntu and how does that compare to a "complete Linux package" ??? I haven't explored what Ubuntu has to offer lately but a year ago, there were 2 versions ... a "server" version and a "desktop" version (can't recall if that is the correct terminology) but basically, two versions and If you installed the server version, that's all you get... a flashing cursor if I remember correctly. I think on a server version you do everything from a command line (aka "flashing cursor") ... however, I was wrong once before .

you might have a weak password then .... google "password generator" ... there are free apps that will generate some pretty secure passwords.

So many are "lost" without cruise ... I wonder ... is it because most of their riding is done on the "slab"? I ask this because, that is the only time I ever use mine and only if it's light traffic so, in other words, I'm not even sure if mine is working as I haven't used it since last year .

Actually, 5 year old systems are not uncommon. Most of our "agent" PC's here at work are going into their 7th year and still running strong. My home system is now 6 years old and no problems since new and it wasn't an overly powerhouse box either. I've had it on WinXP dual booting to Linux on a second HDD for a while, then I blew away Linux and WinXP and installed Win 7 Pro and been on that for the past couple years. FWIW, I used Open SuSe Linux. Also run that on one of our servers here at work. Don't really care much for Ubuntu and it's derivatives ... seems to be more geared to the "Windows" home users.

I've had one of those "fake" contacts since the late 90's when I first learned about it and from what I understand, it's still valid today. I have never had my email hacked. (maybe just lucky?) ..

yup, that is a real PITA. There are a lot of inexpensive programs available that allow a person to "image" their computer. Basically, you boot your computer with either a CD or USB with that software and "burn" an image of your hard drive onto another media such as an external drive. If your system crashes, you can boot it up with that same CD/USB and re-load it from the image. Always back up your data separately somewhere so it doesn't get lost. This way, you can be back up and running with everything you had in a very short time... usually 1/2 to 1 hr.

That's unlikely that they "logged into" your account. What is most likely is you have a virus / bot on your own computer that has hacked your email info and is sending it direct from your computer. It's relatively easy to send out emails to a bunch of people using someone else's email addy. Best to run some anti-virus, malware, and spyware checks on your system. Also, in your email, add a new contact. Give it the name of 0000000 (zeros) with an email addy of 000000@nowhere.nz (or similar) viruses and bots that hack your email this way generally will stop on the first email addy that fails delivery and that email addy would be the very first one.
