  1. @cowpuc ... no, sadly it wasn't a 2017 with the new 107 engine. It was a 2016 with the 103. I really wanted to get a 2017 but the only dealer with one on the rental fleet that was available was in west Knoxville which is about 40+ miles away ... Pigeon Forge (where I rented the bike) is only 15 minutes drive from where we are and in the direction of Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains so I went with that . As for the one I had, it was pretty good. Smooth, good power, easy to handle, great on fuel, but once it was running hot, it idled fairly rough as if there was something wrong with it. I also noticed a fair amount of heat from the header pipes, much like my Victory was before I removed the CATs, installed a Power Commander, Changed the mufflers and had a dyno tune. After that, the Vic wasn't any hotter than a Venture (well, maybe a little *snikker*). I mentioned the "rough idling" to the rental guy when I returned it and he claimed all the 103 engines are like that. Franky I don't agree coz I've ridden several of them at the Harley demo days and none idled that badly. However, that didn't seem to affect the general running of the bike once I got moving. When we're down in Florida I plan to rent again and will only settle for a 2017 model.
  2. Never thought I'd get the opportunity to do it but have heard so much about it. I learned that @Zzyzx lived close to Knoxville and since we are camping near Pigeon Forge I contacted Ed to see if he'd be interested in getting together for a ride in the area. Knowing him, I knew the answer would be a big "YES" so yesterday I rented a Harley, met up with Ed and off we went. He took me through some of the most amazing country I've ever seen including the Smokey Mountains and Tail of the Dragon. What a day we had ... 8 hours and appx 280 miles of riding. Thanks so much Ed for showing me around and for not losing me in the twisties! All the best to you going forward! Dang! they went sideways ... sorry guys, just turn your monitor or your head LOL
  3. We're currently in Leesburg, MD heading for the Knoxville area. Should be there in a couple days where we'll find a campground and stick around until the 22nd. Then we're headed south to florida. Would love to get together with you or anyone else in the area while we're there. We're attending an RV rally in Dandridge, TN from the 17th - 22nd. All the best!
  4. Doug took the words out of my mouth ... or should I say "the text off my keyboard" We will be in the Dandridge, TN area Oct 17-22 for a RV rally at Anchor down RV Resort. Would be great if we could hook up.
  5. It already is so this new Wing should be even better.
  6. take it off ... take it off!! (slowly)
  7. IF I ever buy another bike it will be a Harley EGU simply because I've never owned one and have often wanted to and it would be the last bike I'd ever buy in this lifetime.
  8. HEH ... have you forgotten about this thread ... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?132066-Been-a-while-since-I%92ve-posted-anything-so-here%92s-an-update We're currently in Milton visiting with Nina's relatives. Leaving here tomorrow (Monday) and stopping in Kingston to tour the pen. Today we're attending a car show in Brampton. It's a charity show to support Prostate Cancer. Nina's niece is very involved with the show as her dad (Nina's brother) has been fighting cancer for 11 years. Unfortunately we just haven't had the time to hook up with any of you folks that are local to the area. However, if y'all care to attend this car show, we can hook up there. My cell # is 604-788- seven three oh seven ... text me if you wanna meet. OR... swing by the Milton Heights Campground for a drink this evening. we're in C6 The car show is at the Powerade Centre 7575 Kennedy Rd South, Brampton. L8r
  9. cowpuc .... I can see the drool on your lips LOL Found these at the Borden, Ontario military museum.
  10. We're now at Lake Apsey Resort near Espanola, ON. Arrived yesterday and will stayhere for a few days. Beautiful location!
  11. We camped at Pancake Bay for the night. It's just a bit north of Sault Ste Marie. Heading for Sudbury today. We might go to North Bay and head north to Cochrane but that's undecided at this time. We'll head south from there to Milton, ON where we'll park our butts for a few days while we visit with Nina's relatives. Will try and hook up with y'all in the area if we have time. LOVE this RAM! Pulls our trailer as if it isn't there. Fuel economy could be better though. I'm going to look into getting it chipped and removing the emission crap or whatever they do as I've been told this will improve the fuel consumption quite a bit.
  12. As some know, we bought a truck and 5th wheel trailer, sold the bikes, the house and much of our furniture and hit the road on our “Yerex Adventure” See, even the word has ‘Venture’ in it LOL. We left Surrey, BC on July 16th heading for Prince George, BC. Had to take a long detour due to various highways being closed because of the many forest fires in our province. Prince George is the home of Nina’s brother (one of four). Parked the RV in his driveway and visited for 4 days. We then headed to Vancouver Island (leaving the RV in P.G. to visit with my nephew and attend Nina’s daughter’s wedding on Saltspring Island. While there we visited with Kerry and Janet (sailor). Returned to P.G. after the wedding and camped at a lake just east of P.G. for 5 days. On the last day Nina’s arthritis in her knee flared up and she could barely walk so off to the hospital in P.G. we went. While she was in there being checked out I happened to drive into a Dodge dealer just to LOOK. At the time we were pulling the RV with our 2003 Ford F350 with a V10 gas engine. Although it’s a really nice truck and in good shape it has a lot of miles on it, sucks gas like crazy, and struggles to pull the trailer when going up hills. An attractive lady sales person came up to me and asked if she could ‘help’ so I said, “Got any used diesel trucks?” … “Yes” she said “I have one” … By the time Nina was finished at the hospital, I had traded the Ford in on a 2016 RAM Lariate 3500 Mega Cab with Cummins diesel LOL!!! Unfortunately we had to wait 3 days so they could install a 5th wheel hitch and roof racks for our kayaks. We left P.G. and headed east and arrived in Devon, Alberta on Aug 18th at a campground there where we stayed for a night. While there divey and Dale124 dropped over for a visit. Was great to see them and share some stories. We then headed to Drumheller, Alberta to party with the dinosaurs and explore the area for a couple days. After Drumheller we drove to Plenty, Saskatchewan where Nina’s cousin and his wife own the general store. Plenty is a bit south west of Biggar and this is an area where Nina’s uncles, grandparents, and great grandparents farmed. After a couple days there we headed to Regina. Unfortunately, many of the roads around the area are gravel and in order to get to a paved highway that took us in the direction of Regina we had to drive appx 25 miles on gravel, Didn’t think much of it at the time and in fact, the gravel roads were smoother than some of the paved roads we’d been on getting to Plenty. Arrived at a campground in Regina only to find that EVERYTHING inside the trailer was coated with dust and the kitchen area was so bad you almost needed a shovel to clean it up (just a bit of an “eggzaggerashun” LOL). It was hot, dry, a long drive, we were tired, and now this! Turned out there is a seal under the kitchen slide that wasn't doing it's job! Anyhoo, we got it all cleaned up, had supper and went to bed. Next evening friesman and a couple other “biker” friends showed up and we had a great time visiting with them and sharing stories (mostly about our riding experiences of course). We left Regina, ran into a massive rain storm near Brandon, Manitoba and arrived in Kenora, Ontario a couple days later. This is where we are now and have been for the past 3 days. Kenora is on the north end of the famous “Lake of the Woods” and is where I lived when I was 10 for a short time and again when I was 14-15. It has been fun showing Nina all my old “haunts” and putting real things to the stories I’ve told her about my days here and the shenanigans I used to get into. Today we pack up and head further east so I’ll update this again in a few days. Pics and more info can be seen on facebook. Find and friend me and I will invite you to join “The Yerex Adventure” there if you’d like.
  13. Hard to follow some of the posts above; however, weirdest car I ever drove/owned was an old Austin A40 (around 1954). The shifter on the tree was all backwards compared to American made cars. This thing would roll aling fine until you hit a pthole and then it would shimmy and shake so bad you'd almost lose control. Hammer the brake real quick and the shimmy would stop. You had to push it to get it started so one day I stopped at a corner store to get something. didn't want to shut it off so I stopped with my front wheel in a pothole in the parking lot. This place was on the corner of a street intersection 3/4 the way up a long hill. Well I lost track of time in the store as I was browsing through the Playboy mags LOL ... got my stuff, went out to get in the car ... and it was GONE!! First thought was somebody stole it. Then I saw it down the bottom of the hill sitting backwards against a fence of somebody's yard. I ran down there, car was still running, got in and hi-tailed it out of there. How that thing managed to make it down the hill without hitting anyone is beyone me!
  14. Here in B.C. a basic D/L is a class 5 You need to upgrade to a class 6 for M/C. This involves at a minimum a road test. Motorhomes (class A, B, C) do not require any special licensing. If equipped with air brakes, you need to take and pass an air brake course and get an endorsement for that. Trailers (campers and 5th wheels) require a code 7 endorsement if the loaded weight is 4600 Kg or over. This involves a written test, eye test comprehensive pre-trip inspection, and road test. Here is the list from the ICBC Licensing website... [h=3]Class 5 or 7 driver's licence[/h]What you can use it for: To drive cars, vans, trucks, motorhomes, construction & utility vehicles (2 axles maximum) and motorhomes (may exceed 2 axles) To tow trailers or vehicles up to 4,600kg To ride a limited speed motorcycle or an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) To ride 3-wheeled vehicles but does not include 3-wheeled motorcycles (trikes) or motorcycle/sidecar combinations [h=3]Class 6 or 8 driver's licence[/h] [h=4]What you can use it for:[/h] To ride motorcycles, all-terrain cycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) [h=3](Code 7) added to Class 4 or 5[/h]To tow a recreational (house) trailer exceeding 4,600 kg gross vehicle weight (GVW). Neither the truck nor trailer may have air brakes. Mopeds and Scooters [h=3]No special class of licence[/h] May be operated with all classes of driver's licence. Cannot be operated on a class 5 or 7 learner's licence [h=4]A limited-speed motorcycle has:[/h] A motor with a piston displacement of 50 cc or less, or a power source that produces a maximum of 1.5 kW A power drive system that does not require clutching or shifting after the drive system is engaged A maximum speed of 70 km/h on level ground A maximum weight of 95 kg Wheels with a diameter of at least 254 mm For boating (pleasure craft) you need a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). This requires taking a comprehensive written test. Certain types of boats don't apply such as kayaks, canoes, boats with very small motors, etc. http://www.cps-ecp.ca/pcoc.html
  15. Have you taught them how to shift without using the clutch?
  16. LOL, I have a 34 ft 5th wheel which I tow with an '03 F350 V10 ... I've named it "The Green Gobbler" cuz it's green and gobbles gas!
  17. Here in B.C. one needs a code 7 endoresement added to their class 5 D/L (a basic D/L) if the loaded weight of the trailer is 4600 Kg (10,141 Lbs) or over. It requires you pass a written exam, an eye test, a very thorough pre-trip inspection AND a road test. Much the same as the test for driving a semi. For anything else, there is no additional requirement. THAT, IMHO, is absolutely ludicrous. A 16 or 17 yr old kid that just got his/her basic D/L can hop in a 40+ foot diesel pusher M/H (without air brakes) and head off down the road. DOH!
  18. Seems the rage now with auto trannys is the paddle shift.
  19. My knowledge of Diesel engines goes back to the days when I was the rental and leasing manager for Idealease which at that time was a subsidiary of Navistar (International trucks). Cummins by far out numbered any other brand in the trucks we leased, rented, and sold. Service them regularly and they will never let you down. Also consider looking into preventive maintenance and by that I mean replace or repair things based on their known life span. Cummins Diesel can provide that info for you.
  20. What's the length? I've heard that when you get up around 40' and beyond it gets difficult to find RV campsites. We considered buying a class A but then we'd have to pull a toad and the problem with that is backing up so that means if you can't find a pull-through campsite then you got to unhook the toad. Is this unit Air / hydraulic brakes or just Air? Not sure about other areas but here you need an Air brake endorsement for air brake only rigs but not needed for air / hydraulic. Nice looking rig! What's the asking price?
  21. I've lived in Canada for part of my life .... but mostly I've lived in British Columbia (aka B.C. aka Bring Cash )
  22. When I learned to drive *, Most vehicles on the road were standard shift. I do recall my step-dad's 1952 DeSoto having some sort of automatic trans. You had to use a clutch to get it rolling but after that, it shifted on it's own. * - to clarify, I actually learned on a farm tractor when I was 8 yrs old. I'm now 70.
  23. I don't think there even was automatic trannys when I learned to drive....
  24. somewhere in this forum is a thread / post that contains those serial #s ....
