Here's a good link for different sounds... http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002009&id=285

Road King slash cuts (non catalytic version). Not too loud but a better sound than stock. You can also drill out any of 3 baffles to vary the sound. You can get these anywhere from free to $100 depending where you find them. You have to adapt the rear mount with a custom bracket. Do a search here and you can find the spec for making the bracket ... it is very easy to do with a 2" wide length of 1/8 Aluminum.

The check engine light was coming on in my '05 Silverado (with only 72000 kms). It would come on for a few days and then not come on for a few days... eventually it just stayed on... then my gas gauge would stop working for a day or two and then it would work again.. finally it too stopped altogether. Turns out the gas gauge sending unit was faulty and that is what was causing the check engine light to come on. $700 later and a new fuel pump solved the problem ... they just don't make 'em simple like they used to!

Anyone have "little known secrets" about 2nd Gen
SilvrT replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
We saw one putt-putting down the highway on Sunday. We were standing outside a restaurant/bar with a couple other bikers and I commented "there goes a Ural" ... the other bikers didn't know what it was -

Not sure if this qualifies for a "little known" thing about a 2nd gen but it is an observation... We just got back from a 3 day ride to various points in the BC interior. We saw 2 2nd gen Ventures, 6 Victories, about 10 or so Goldwings, a spattering of other brands and types, and more Harleys than you can imagine. Point being, there's not a lot of em around as we rarely see them on our travels and over the past month, not counting this past weekend, the ones we have seen belong to riders we know (two in total) and one used to be ours. -

On a 2nd gen, EDIT: when IF you find you can't keep up with a 1st gen, you press the "passing" button and it gives you an extra boost of power so you can show up those 1st gen riders who's only "claim" to fame is their bikes are faster. -

get rid of that ridiculous ratcheting mechanism also known as a whatchamacallit .... useless POS I don't think I've ever seen where someone has adapted a small gas strut in place of that .... but seems to me to be an idea. Unfortunately I've long since disposed of my 2nd gen ... hmmmmm ... maybe I'll look into this on the Vic just for the halibut. -

Forget the fingernails .... use a nylon putty spreader ... the kind you'd get for smearing bondo onto a vehicle. Also, you can use WD40 instead of goo-gone. 12 volt aux plug ... many "nubes" don't know it exists ... it's inside fairing, left side, down a ways (almost hidden). -
Clive ... exonerated from ANY wrong? (do we have enuf "exonerate"?)

So I just got back here and there are 8 threads with new posts. Below that is "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts." There's 17 of them on the 1st page and there is a 2nd page. And this particular thread, which HAS BEEN UPDATED since I was last here is one of the ones UNDER that heading! Before I left earlier, I marked all threads as READ. I don't understand that at all.

When we went to do the Campbells Soup commercial, we had to ride in to a remote campground ... about 10 miles of very loose, mostly single lane, windy, up/down hills road ... 2-up! It wasn't fun at all and even worse since we were a ways back of a cage that was kicking up a lotta dust. I would not do that without a very good reason and this time, money was being waved at me LOL That was on the RSV On the Wing, I have taken it onto gravel just to see how it handled .... no problem and even better with the Khumo car tire on the back. Yet to try it on the Vic but I will. There are times when a person has no choice either ... like a few years back when they were seal coating the highway ahead of us (we didn't know) .... extremely loose gravel on top of paved surface ... can be quite tricky. It's a good idea to purposely get onto some gravel roads just to get a feel for how the bike handles so that when you get caught by surprise, you're not surprised. Or in your case, you will already know what to expect before hand and maybe feel more confident.

So, I mark all forums read. I come back a little later and there's say, three new posts. (I click on New Posts) and then it says "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts." .. and there's two or three (or more) below that. WHY?
-
heck, there's a lot of posts I don't want to read, period ... nevermind within 10 days

It's been raining here all week. Supposed to clear up by the weekend and remain warm and dry right into next week. Hope the weather "person" doesn't screw up as this is our July 1st long weekend and we're planning on goin for a nice 3 day ride!
-
... and they bring those driving habits with them when they come over here. Vancouver is so full of immigrants these days that I feel like a foreigner. We're heading to the interior for the July1 long weekend ... it will almost be a culture shock to be in areas where the majority of the population is white Canadian rednecks with a good spattering of natives.

Clive, are you back on the job? What happened with your scooter... I assume that was owned by the city or whoever it is that you work for? Glad to hear you're doing ok.

Do we have an update???
-
Not only Calgary (and surrounding areas such as High River It's crazy this year. Our weather here in the Vancouver area has been up and down but at least we haven't yet had any really bad storms like some years. (note I said "yet").

Like the name of a new Chinese baby... Sum Ting Wong If it's LEVEL (ie, perpendicular to the ground), it shouldn't matter if it's on the centre stand or the tires. It's full if the level is just barely at the top; however, it is best to have it a bit over the centre of the sight glass (appx 1/2 way between centre and top). -
My daughter and her b/f (who's an Aussie from Noosa) are currently on a 2-3 month camping trip in Aus. He just finished the "Iron Man Cairns". Not sure what their route is.
-
Won't matter to some of us as we're on our last new bike now ... (unless someone wins a lotto LOL) As for EPA ... only necessary for the mfg to comply as in most places, motorcycles aren't tested and it will probably be a long time before they are. Meanwhile, those that are equipped with CATs, 02 sensors, etc ... all that crap quite often gets removed or disabled by the owner one way or another. I'm doing mine next week.

I have our furnace set to come on when the temp goes below 21 celcius between the hours of 5:15PM and 10PM ... then again between 5:15AM and 6:30AM ... the rest of the time it is set at 18 except on the weekend when it's set for 21 from 5:15AM thru 10PM. Those time slots are for when we are at home. We've had several days in the past month and a bit that the furnace has not run but there have been a few such as today that it kicks in. I guess some folks like cooler temps that I do LOL
