I have a Canon multi-function device that my "Mint" won't recognize. I found and installed some drivers for it but it still didn't seem to "see" the Canon printer/copier. Haven't gone past that stage yet but will endeavor to resolve that over the coming days. Once I figure out how to get all my Outlook email/contacts, etc ported over and how to remote desktop to my work I should be all set to forget....about Winderz! ... oh but then there's my Tax software to deal with .... hmmmmm .... this might not happen

I am working towards running Linux on my home PC. Have it installed, have worked with it off and on for several years and, like you, I refuse to go to Win8. Currently running Win7 Pro and it works quite well. Unfortunately, I have several PC's at work (workstations) that will soon require replacing. Linux might be an option but I'm 80% sure that some of the apps we run will not work in a linux OS. I have appx 8 months to figure that out. I'm also appx 90% sure my boss will love me even more if I can make them run in Linux OS. MAC is simply not an option, either at home or at work.

Microsoft !!!!! arrrrrgghhhhhhhhhhhhh Windows 8 POS!!! They are forcing us to go in a direction they want us to and before long the world will be controlled by them! (as if it aready isn't) :bang head: :bang head: Do you know that solitaire, which has been around since Windows 3 way back in the early 90's is no longer "local" and you now have to go to "the cloud" to get it and play it. Oh, and Windows Vista/7 versions can't be copied over either -BUT- if you can grab the following files off a WinXP box and paste them onto your Win8, those will work! card.dll freecell.exe mshearts.exe sol.exe spider.exe winmine.exe These are all located in C:\Windows\System32 on a WinXP system

Now that's downright MEAN and UNCALLED for! Don's new "boat" is such a great machine that they've stopped making them soas to preserve their value forever. Heck, in a few years he can sell it and retire, it's value will have appreciated that much!

Being that I am primarily a Windows user (and tech), I find Mint very similar, easy to find things. Didn't try any variant of the latest Ubuntu, just the default new legacy desktop... which I didn't care for. I plan to put Windows 7 into a virtual box to see how that works as I have a lot of apps that I use in it. Hoping I can create an ISO Image and load it into the virtual box. Must be crappy weather for me to sit here all day, tinkering with this LOL

Just installed this on my home PC to check it out. Sof far, I like it ... tried the latest flavor of Ubuntu ... don't care for it at all.. Wondering who else is using Linux here, what "flavor", how long you been using it, pros/cons, anything... and specifically, if you use Mint. FWIW, I've been in the computer/IT field since 1987. Been experimenting (off and on) with various flavors of Linux since appx 1999 and have used Open SuSe as a network file server in a Microsoft Windows Domainhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png using Win Server domain controllers and Active Directory. (Just thought I'd throw this in)

A little "lesson" I learned long ago when typing long "narratives" in places such as this (where you have no "Save" button) is to occasionally press Ctrl+A (select all), then Ctrl+C (copy). This stores what I've type into the clipboard (aka memory). If the app locks up or the post fails, you can easily get the info back by starting over and pressing Ctrl+V (paste). Sometimes I'll also jump into a Word document and past my copied info there. (sorry for the hijack! )

Had a similar incident happen to me. Guy in a 4x4 pulling a camper trailer ... almost put me into the concrete median divider. Now, I HAVE a FIAMM air horn that is very loud ... he never even heard it and I was practically beside the driver's door blasting it. He must have had his tunes cranked up or who knows what.... maybe he was deaf. I had to hammer the brakes hard to prevent getting mushed. Lucky for him that Nina was with me. Ya, we pulled up alongside the right of him and screamed some choice words, etc, saluted him (and his wife) but they just ignored us and kept on going. If Nina wasn't there, I would have ...... well, I hate to think what I'da done but it wouldn't have been pretty! Be careful out there! ... they are ALL out to get rid of us.

When I was young, I used to hate watching that "dancing and singing" stuff ... as I grew older I developed a real appreciation for the talent and the coreography (did I actually spell that right? LOL). Now, I get totally into it. That was awesome! Some great and famous dancers in that! Thanks for sharing!

Here's how they are made....

There is (or was) a type / brand of tire called Blizzak ... the tread is siped from mfg. They are awesome on hard packed snow and icy roads. Had a set on my Villager van years ago when I was doing a lot of long distance winter driving. They stuck like glue to the roads. If I was doing similar driving and all I had was a set of standard winter tires, I would not hesitate to have them siped. Tires with a siped tread should only be used during winter when the roads are cold, snowy, or icy. Any other time and they will wear out very quickly.

Not likely ... you need to install "levelling links". Do a search on these. They will greatly improve the low speed handling.

I was at the Harley shop a few days ago to get warranty on my boots. Yes, my h h h harley boots that I bought back in March ... some of the stitching at the zipper was coming apart. Got a full exchange coz they are warranteed for a year! Anyhoo, spent a good deal of time drooling over the new Ultra Limited. At $31,xxx plus tax , I guess I won't be getting one any time soon but I do plan to go to the demo days in Oct and test ride them. Some of their color choices are awesome and I really like the changes they've made to things like the fairing, saddlebag lids and trunk. That vent in the fairing is designed to neutralize the low pressure zone behind the windshield/fairing to reduce head and body buffeting. Have the same kinda thing on my Vic and it does make a big difference, even with a shorter shield.

Folks complaining about engine heat from a liquid cooled Venture ???? Having owned 2 first gens and a 2nd gen, y'all don't know what REAL engine heat feels like ... try riding a Vic or a Harley on a scorching hot day in stop and go traffic! Seriously ... I can't say I ever felt much engine heat on any of my Ventures.
