Headlight replacement
Steve-O replied to Steve-O's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Aesthetics first, but I don't want to reduce the amount of light. I'm adding the extra passing lights for additional light. So, I will want these to match. I looked on Cruiser customizer and there are several after market headlight assemblies that shown. But I'd like to see a few front ends with light replacements before I go to the trouble of upgrading. I had an old Honda VT1100 and put a VTX headlight on it. Made a huge difference in the amount of light AND it made the bike look much better. I was comparing the liner and RSTD front ends and the Liner is the hands down favorite. -
I was looking at the front of my 2006 RSTD next to my 2009 Liner. The liner light looks SOOOO much better. Is there an aftermarket headlight assembly replacement for the RSTD? Any pictures of bikes with this done? Also looking for passing lights to match them. I was looking at the Yamaha lights and bar, but heard about power draw on the light bar as well as all the other options. Whatever headlamp I decide on, I'm going to get some passing lights that compliment it.

Halogen or sealed beam running lights?
Steve-O replied to Steve-O's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Do you have them wired to be on all the time or do you have a switch? My RSTD doesn't have a crash bar to mount them. But K makes a light bar for them.... -
To BUB or not to BUB

You'll love the sound. Sounds like you're riding a hot rod. It's not "loud" to other cars, so if you want to be "heard", it's not a huge difference over stock. IMHO That said, I think you will like them a lot. -

Love my Bubs. Not too loud. Sounds like a hopped up 66 chevy when I'm riding. 'Unique' sound. No brainer. Pull the trigger. -
Halogen or sealed beam running lights?
Steve-O replied to Steve-O's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Halogen it is! I don't like being on the bleeding edge when it comes to safety....and lights are for safety. I'll look at upgrading the headlight at some point in time. I upgraded my Honda to SilverStar or something like that and it made a difference. But with the driving lights, I should have plenty of light. -
Halogen or sealed beam running lights?
Steve-O replied to Steve-O's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Never heard of HID till now. What are they? Can I buy a bulb that fits my existing headlight? Can I buy HID running lights? If I buy the OEM running lights for my 2006 RSTD, can I get HID bulbs? There is a Sealed beam and Halogen version of the OEM running lights....will either of these allow for the HID bulbs? I do a LOT of night travel and want all the light I can get....without having my brights on. -

Any examples of LED running lights? Saw some by Kurakyn that looked nice. but they were a lot pricier.... -
I'm getting some of the stock running lights for my 2006 RSTD. There are two sets of lights for sale. One is sealed beam, the other is Halogen. What are the pros and cons of each? I have the original headlight....but would not hesitate to replace it with some thing better. I'd like the lights to match....

I have a 2006 RSTD. My Liner had a switch that was meant for running lights. The RSTD doesn't have this switch. So I'll need a switch and light ideas. I'd like to be able to turn them off and on separate from the headlight and the switch has to look like it wasn't an afterthought. Ideas?

Honest advice needed
Steve-O replied to csf's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Just bought an 06 with 6k miles for $6k. Midnight edition with Chrome forks and bub pipes. I've never had a problem with carbs. Just run them out of fuel before you put them up for the winter...and I never put mine up for the winter since I live in Texas... -
The old chrome tubular solo rack, pn STR-4NK51-20-00, has been discontinued and there are none for sale on ebay...I have a saved search there though. Couldn't find any on Phat or CustomCruiser Wondering if anyone knows of a part similar for sale? I see some flat steel, eagles and such, but really want the chrome tube fender rack. Looking for the Solo seat rail too....just like these: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67598

The guy that had the bike we looked at said he and his wife rode fine on it. No issues with bottoming it out. I don't think it affects tire/fender space. It DID affect the handling. Making it lower made it a little easier to ride in my opinion. But this bike was 2 inches lower with the bike lowering and the seat lowered an inch. I just want an inch taken off the seat. Don't want the whole bike lowered. Yamaha dealer did the bike I looked at. Cost $1k for them to do it.

When i was shopping for this RSTD, met a guy that had his bike lowered and inch. AND had his seat lowered an inch. It was a stock seat. Looked just as thick as the oem. Looked like an OEM seat. So, my question is: Is there an easy way to lower the seat about an inch? I'm getting the seat redone. Probably a Butler seat since he lives about 10 miles from me.
