oil pressure gauge troubles
Riderinthesnow replied to bikerjohn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The low oil pressure reading is normal. That is why Yamaha installs a oil level gauge and not a pressure gauge. All my Venture were the same, so was my Virago. They all lived to be very high mileage bikes. -
Please instruct how to have sex while riding. I would take a chance!

Changing headlamp bulb
Riderinthesnow replied to Riderinthesnow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I tried removing the fairing, but was unable to remove the headlight pod. I did'n want to unscrew the adjuster knob all the way. -
Has anyone figured out an easy way to replace headlight bulb? My hand must be too fat.

Solo camping trip
Riderinthesnow replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've been camping for years and never had any troubles. I often leave my riding coat and bke boots under my bike cover and go hiking. If you park and cover your bike in a well attended parking lot, you should have no problems. -
Hey Miles: Wait for the 3 flags rally, You'll meet Canadian bandidos. They mostly run motels and hotels. Glad you made it home OK.

Before I retired, I rode my bike to work in winter as long as the highway was dry. I had no problem with the cold down to -15 to -18 C ( about 0 F). I got caught at work quite a few times, when it started snowing during the day. I rode slowly home in the snow. I was surprised how well the tires performed in the snow. Avoided using the brakes, or leaning in the turns, as much as possible.

I had success with the " Plug and Go" kit. I've repaired several flats this way. I always leave the plug in until the tire is worned down. One word of advise if you decide to use that kit, carry a little can of WD40 and spray the mushroom plug before inserting it in the gun. It makes it a lot easier to insert into the hole.

I spend all my winters in Mexico. I'm sitting under the palapas having a cold one and trembling in my boots... I mean in my flip-flops. Hasta luego!

I've installed one on my ST. It works fine. My camera has 170degrees field, but if I changed it I would go with a narrower field (110o) to get a longer depht of field.

Bernice and I are planning to be there. I just hope it is a little warmer than last year!

2006 Venture electrical problem
Riderinthesnow replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check the rectifier plug. I went through two rectifiers bebore I realized the problem was with the plug. Altough it looked good, if was burned on the inside. I cut the plug right off and soldered the wires directly to the rectifier pins, and insulated the whole works with automotive goop. Charging problem fixed! -
Count me in. I don't really need any work done right now, but would enjoy getting together. Lots of Venture riders around Winnipeg area. Word can get around pretty fast.

Wish we had warm weather like that in Manitoba. This year we ride in the wet and cold, or we don't ride. QUOTE=SilvrT;589072]A week or so back, I had been planning a great 3-day May long weekend ride/getaway ... just myself! Weatherman was forecasting decent weather... in fact, for the past 3 days it's been awesome! Nina and her daughters were taking off to Penticton in our truck for a reunion with family friends from long before my time. I had the whole weekend to myself and I was just gonna RIDE! Until this ..... :crying: :crying: Yep... I'll have a nice weekend to myself ... ALL ALONE AT HOME! and what's worse, no cage to drive.

Centre Stand for RSV
Riderinthesnow replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I Have a Rivco center stand on my o1 RSV. Easy to install . Works great. I never scraped it in the turns. -
I have 240 000 km on my 01 and need to replace the shock. That will be no. 4 for me! I'm hoping to find a better alternative to the stock one, but don't look forward to dishing out $600.00. I'm scouting out the crashed machines to see if I can find a Works shock at a decent price.

Where to buy shock?
Riderinthesnow replied to kartattack's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Has anyone contacted EPM Performance, and checked out their shock. They claim to have a shock for the Venture. Part number YSS model 506-255TR. It sells for $500.00 -
Has anyone found a decent alternative to replace the stock rear shock on the RS Venture? This is the third one to go on me.

Do you have a light in the top box which does not shut of when you close the lid? It happened to me!

96 Royal star Toe shifter
Riderinthesnow replied to pmerkl's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I just "rebuilt" my shifter pedal using a 9/16X3/8 oillite bushing. I drilled out the shifter to 14mm and forced the bushing in the bore (9/16 = 14.3 mm). I then drilled the bushing to 12mm. Work out perfect. -
I successfully repaired broken tabs on lowers using regular ABS solvent, the yellow type used to glue ABS plumbing pipes.
