Please tell your son I honor his decision to serve our country. At this moment my twenty year old son is serving on-board the USS Bonhomme Richard in the US seventh fleet area of operations. Go Navy!

I'm an ex-Pennsylvanian. I've been a Californian for the last forty years. Now, I pay when I want to see snow, like to go skiing or snowboarding. Love you guys!

I am pullin' for you to beat the cancer. I am inclined to believe motorcycle ridin' may help win the fight!

California smog requirements
beastwood replied to RWITT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
As long as the vehicle has 7500 or miles, you just register it. That is how I did my 2008 RSV. You don't have to change any parts. -
The reservation is in for the "Cousins" hotel! Now to start preparing for the trip. My wife said, "how do you pack for all those days on a motorcycle?" I said, "You don't, you pack for three days and do laundry every third day." This will be my longest trip and hers as well.

I checked with the wife. She is open to the idea. I haven't told her it is 991 miles each way. It should make for a cool surprise.

Two So Cal members meet up - leveling links
beastwood replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
Many thanks to VentureFar for the help. I had a great ride home with the new links installed. So far the forum has been a big help with the motorcycle, installed the Garmin nuvi GPs, RAM mount, Stebel air horn, and new links all from reading this site's tech articles. Many thanks to all who have contributed. -
I held back from riding today because rain was forecast. A cold front is moving in, so I'm hanging back till the weather clears up.

My new Road King Mufflers came with a wig?"
beastwood replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got Road King mufflers mounted on my 2008 Venture today. All went well. I got the pipes from a friend for fifty bucks. I purchased RK muffler clamps from Buckeye Performance for $39.95. I had a friend make the muffler brackets out of 1/8" aluminum, two inch width. I used 5/16" -18 bolts, 1/2" length with a lock washer. I didn't know about muffler expander tools, so I got a two by four, covered it in terry cloth to make it soft, and pounded those mufflers on with a fifteen pound hammer. Gently of course. Everything fits well, and the sound is comfortably lower. Not so much louder, and I can still hear the stereo. As a side note, I found out that removing the saddlebags is easy, just four bolts each, and you get a great view of the rear wheel should you want to clean it. You don't need to mess with the bag guard rails either. -
I have mine one year this month! My 2008 still looks brand new. I ride it every week ( alternately with my V-Star 650).

Thank you for your service, and Happy Veterans Day in advance. Here is to your upcoming retirement.

I found black ABS glue in the sprinkler (irrigation) parts section of Lowe's store. It is called Weld-On 773 ABS, made by IPS corporation, Gardena, California. It worked well on the cowling repair, although it took a day and a half to cure. Once done curing it was fine.

It is not much different here in southern California, as it is in Iceland. I checked out the local Star 109 chapter, there were a fair number of Tour Deluxe's, also Road Stars, but my 2008 Black Cherry RSV was the only one. Actually, I kind of liked it. I haven't met another RSV rider since I got mine last December.

I had never seen that quote before. I'm a teacher, and I'm certain I can use it for students! Thanks.

Those nasty trim clips!
beastwood replied to beastwood's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks, I'm going to try that. If this exposes the fuse panel, then I can change the fuse. I blew out the fuse by using my air compressor that I plug into my car's cigarette lighter, but the aux plug is not rated for that. -
Those nasty trim clips!
beastwood replied to beastwood's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
To remove the lower front cover, the manual advises to remove the back cover first. That's where the trim clips are. If I can get to the fuse panel without removing the back cover, then I'm a happy camper. All I need is to change the fuse. Any help on this is appreciated. -
I need to change a 5 amp fuse in the secondary fuse panel. It is behind the lower front cowling. How do you get the trim clip off? I can't think of how to pry it out without damaging something. Any body know how?
