  1. I commute daily to work on my V-Star 650 Classic. Six and a half years on the same route just to keep things simple. Here is what I believe happened three weeks ago ( some parts are just missing from memory). I lane changed into a sudden slowing of surface street traffic, locked up the rear, went sideways, and upon stopping, got thrown off the motorcycle. My V-Star 650, not the Venture. This resulted in breaking two bones in my left hand. All safety equipment worked well, full face helmet, leather jacket with armour, quarter chaps, good leather boots. My gloves could have done better perhaps if they had cushions above the knuckles. I realize I should not have got on the rear brake in that scenario. The bike survived very well, bent footrest bracket, broken turn signal, one or two scratches. I have two pins inserted in my left hand and it seems to be healing up well. I just shared this because, from what I have read since, in a tight quarters sudden stop, it may be better to stay off the rear brake entirely to avoid the issue of lock up.

  8. My Geico policy states that vehicle usage is not considered for rating purposes in the state of California. I listed 4000 as my usage. ( The other 3000 is on my V-Star) Coverage is Bodily Injury 300,000/300,000, Property damage $100,000, Comprehensive and Collision at $250 deductible. Towing included. No uninsured motorist coverage. $ 237.00 per year for the RSV, $58 for the V-Star. Total $295.00
  9. Your post reminds us that life is precious. I am sorry to learn of your loss. Each time I ride I acknowledge that this may be my last ride.
  10. A 4.7 earthquake is about equivalent to accidently bumping into your kitchen table on the way to the fridge. 6.0 and above will get your attention tho'.

That machine is gleaming. Nice work.
  12. Nice set of tips.
  13. My first two picks are Cesar's Palace and the Mandalay Bay. Cesar's because of the one-of-a-kind architecture, and Mandalay because it's classy but not too upscale. Bellagio and Venetian are more upscale than I travel. Definitely stay away from Circus Circus and Flamingo.
  14. Puc, You have some well-wishers out here in the Golden State. Gabby and I both wish you a speedy recovery!
  15. I am sorry to learn of the loss of your beloved Ben. You wrote so lovingly about him. I just suffered the loss of my beloved Gizmo in October. I attached a picture of him asleep in his bed.
  16. I'm glad to hear you made it through that experience so well. Best wishes for a complete healing. I'll bet you are already planning a replacement motorcycle.
  17. I have the River Road Caliber leather jacket. Very comfortable and nicely stitched. It has removable/ upgradable EVA foam armor in the shoulders, elbows, & back.
  18. The next to the last biker funeral I went to was for an accident caused by an unsecured BBQ grill falling out of a pickup truck. The motorcycle operator didn't make it, his passenger survived with injuries. She attended the funeral in a wheelchair.
  19. After reading all these helpful posts about safety, I was wondering when I would see the same out here. Well, this was my week. Yesterday, on my way home from work, a semi rural ten mile trip through pastureland, I saw a beautiful deer beside the road. It was being tended to by two bystanders. Hopefully, it was only stunned, I assume it must have been struck. Thankfully, not by me. Then, today, I was on a four lane road in the number one lane, a car just ahead in the number two lane, and a motorist pulls out from the curb and rolls all the way into my lane. I swerve into the left hand turn lane to avoid him. I'm sure he couldn't see me because of the car in the number two lane. Well, all your helpful posts kept me ready for whatever I may encounter.
  20. Thanks for the heads up on Stevie Ray Vaughn. I listened to "Texas Flood" (long version) on You Tube and was truly amazed. What a talent. You never know what this forum will do for you!
  21. I wanted a t shirt themed for Royal Star Venture, so I made my own design. I ordered from AlliedShirts.com. Here is a picture of the front and back. I think they came out lookin' nice. See the pic's. If anyone wants the design, I saved it at Alliedshirts.com. I'll find out how to identify it.
  22. Puc, that was awesome. The bike really does run and the sound came over very well.
