You could always go with this to keep cool. http://ecomodder.com/blog/who-needs-air-conditioning-when-youve-got-ice-cold-water-running-through-your-shirt/

Is that because I am not going now!

I have stopped at gas stations, convince marts and most have been more than willing to let me drop my packs into their Bagged Ice boxes. It takes about 15-20 min and believe me they are WELL Worth the money. I also have a small cooler that goes in my hitch receiver that I can use to keep a set cold. Depending on the packs you get and whether or not you put them in a vest, or right up against your skin you can get 4-6 hours out of them. I rode from Myrtle Beach home, which is close to 4 hours and the packs were still at 63 degrees. I have left them out on my kitchen counter and they stayed 63 degrees for 2 days before they discharged. About 10 min in ice water and they were ready to go. Great thing about them is that you can put them in the freezer for months and when you pull them out you can put them right on your skin, they don't get down to freezing they stay at 63 or maybe just a tad cooler while in the freezer. http://www.texascoolvest.com/cvd.html check this out, gonna have to order me up a couple. http://www.texascoolvest.com/cvcc.htm

Sorry to say that Krome Rose and I will not be able to attend Vogel. Work is really swamped, I have 4 training events kicking off that week as well as it being the last week of a major communications exercise test. I have only one person at work who can cover for me but his daughter is having reconstructive surgery on her jaw during that time. In my book family comes first. We feel really bad about this, we wanted to meet more of the southern members, put faces to names, but it just isn't in the cards. I hope everybody has a safe and great time.

Harely Davidson Daytona dealer Killed in Crash.
SaltyDawg replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
It's a shame that he died, but I feel more for the people in the truck that he hit. It's hard to feel sorry for someone who by all accounts was in the wrong and to top it off was NOT wearing a helmet. Sturgis seems to be a death sentence for HD Dealership owners. Last year the Charolotte dealership owner was killed in an accident on the way to Sturgis. -
Dumb question but do you have a Mic sock on the mic? If the IC is on at anything over 8 without a mic sock then you will get a lot of noise. As for wind noise, that can be driven by the helmet you have too.

Going?? Where is you going? Be safe buddy, keep your head down and make friends with a Marine he will look out for U. Keep in touch as best you can. See you on the flip side. Margaret we are just down the road, if you need anything at all don't hesitate to call. If you just need to get away for a while we are here. You and Brandy can spend days going to all the antique stores in the area. (if that's your sort of thing) Take care Jeff.

My OD don't luv me no more?
SaltyDawg replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have priced the coils out a couple months ago and they were $50.00 to $55.00 each. From what I can tell they are specific too, you can't just buy one and have it as a spare. I am pretty sure I have a coil going out on me. Lucky for me I am 99% sure I know which one it is. It was a cool morning and the engine was missing "in 5th under load" for about 15 miles. pulled over, felt the exhaust and the right side was cooler than left. Felt the cylinders and the right front was cool, in fact the exhaust pipe was luke warm at best to the touch while all others were scorching. It cleared up but just yesterday I could feel it missing every now and then. -
I know some have bypassed the ignition switch for a just in case circumstance. So maybe someone can help me out here. Recently I have been having some weird things happening that I am attributing to the ignition switch going bad. I have read and printed out the by-pass procedure to install a separate switch on the bike in case the main one craps out. My question is this. By putting this switch in does it give you everything you need or is it just allowing you to crank the bike and run it? Do you get lights, dash, turn signals, brakes, and everything else that would normally come on with the ignition? Many thanks in advance.

I think my rear shock has failed
SaltyDawg replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Like SleeperHawk said bumper to bumper but the replacement shock still has the same high failure rate as the original one. These shocks are truly not rated for this size mc with the weight some of us are carrying around our mid sections. If you can afford a new shock I would recommend the Works Performance before a Yamaha replacement, even covered under warranty. Like I mentioned earlier some people have waited quite a while to get a new shock. One member waited so long that Yamaha paid half towards him getting a Works Performance shock. -

SaltyDawg replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Be careful for sure. The bike will want to come uncollected in corners if you hit the slightest bump. Straight and level you can control it and it just pogos on you but those corners can be a real Bi**H. Good luck on getting a replacement shock anytime soon. Some folks have waited for months to get one from Yamaha. Check ebay and Craigs list. -
I forgot to mention, other than the part missing from the carb everything is factory original. If I remember correctly it was in fairly decent shape. Once I get it in hand I'll post some pics.

Ahhh but Celt got the model number. LOL

Hey Mini I think you might actually be able to straddle this one and have your feet touch the ground!!

Leave it to you Margaret.

DING DING DING we have a winner!! It's actually a 1963 Yamaha YG1 80cc. You were close enough.

Ok all you old timers can you name this bike? It is quite possible that I was just offered one of these for $35.00 It was running when the guy bought it but there was a part missing from the carb. He doesn't have the time or inclination to mess with it. To be honest I only saw it once and I remembered what he called it so I was able to find this pic. It was funny how it came about. Let's say he collects things. Some would say he is a pack rat. He has 6 shipping containers and a 40 x 60 metal building stacked and packed with stuff he has "Collected" I commented on his collection and he said name it and I bet I have it. I said "Moped" and he said yep right there and sure enough 10 feet inside the door we were by stood a bike like this one. I was talking to him today and out of the blue he offered it to me for what he paid for it. I said how much and he said $35 bucks. Any guesses?

Help, wifes Virago is using a lot of oil
SaltyDawg replied to raceman62race's topic in General Tech Talk
If you haven't already found this site here is a pretty helpful bunch of folks. It may take a few days for them to approve registration. Make sure you fill out as much info as possible because if there is not enough for them they will send you an email to get you to answer fill in the info and that will take longer to get registered. They are VERY knowledgeable on all of the Viragos. http://forums.delphiforums.com/vocroom/start -
Works Performance is the only other place to get a shock for the RSV. The WP shock is made for you and your RSV at the time of order so there is no off the shelf replacement for the RSV shock. The WP shock is NOT an air shock and it is much beefier than the OEM YAMMY shock. I have had one on my RSV for 2.5 years and have had no problems what so ever with it. Pricey? yes but when you compare it to a OEM and replacing that OEM just 2 times you have spent more than the WP shock. My first RSV I went through 3 shocks including one the second day I bought the bike from the dealer. When I sold the bike It had 4 different shocks and 37,000 miles on it. Now my current RSV has 59,000 miles on the WP shock. I don't know how many shocks it may have had on it before I bought it, but it had 40,000 miles and the shock was shot when I bought the bike.

differential noise
SaltyDawg replied to starrider60's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I can offer one little bit of advice. Get yourself a GOOD set of snap ring pliers. The el cheapo's from the local hardware store just won't cut it. I paid about 7 bucks more for a professional set and it was well worth it. -
Not that I would ever own another Metzler but if in fact the label is wrong about mgw and tire pressure that would be a BIG reason for the tread coming off and quit possibly how they found the mis-label. Just my 2 cents.
