Sherry they spelled out Silver Star because the Silver Star is the highest medal he received. I would love to read the award letters to see what he did to earn the medals. It takes something special to get a Silver Star that's for sure. He was a true Hero. I thank him and all Veterans for their service to our country. There are those like Tom who deserve a special thanks because they went over and above the call of duty to protect lives. Sure wish I could have met Tom. He sounds like a wonderful person.

Personally I wouldn't put a cheap tire on a big bike like the Venture. I prefer the Michelin Commander and from what I have heard from others who have switched to it they love it. I don't know what the front to rear wear ratio is but I have 19,000 on the rear and it looks as if I could get another 3 or 4 thousand out of it. The front looks new. BTW I never got more than 8,000 out of a rear tire and I tried them all the Dunlop, Metzler, Conti, Bridgestone, and the Avon Venoms.

Chances are good this is where you problem is. My advice is to run a separate fused link from the battery to power the passing lamps. Run it through a relay that is powered off the aux wiring for the outlet on the left side of the faring. I put a lighted switch in to have the ability to shut the passing lights off if just listening to the radio. I don't know why Yamaha wants you to hook into the headlight circuit. If that fuse blows as you have already found out you have NO LIGHTS AT ALL. At least with a dedicated fused link and a relay running off the aux circuit you will still have passing lights if the headlight fuse blows.

Actually what he is talking about is the risers hitting the plastic piece surrounding the ignition switch. As long as you don't have the chrome piece it won't matter since the plastic gives enough to not get damaged.

That site has a lot of stuff for different bikes. Their High Intensity LED's are really an attention getter. Check out this earlier post I had. There is an AVI on my post of my LED strip on my trunk with a strobe flasher. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12974

Hope it's not too cold I would like for the wife to ride her "NEW" to her 800 Intruder. She just bought it yesterday and has been nothing but smiles ever since. Sold her VLX Monday and bought the Suzuki the next morning. Guess the money was burning too big a hole in her pocket.:rotf:

Select button until RB is displayed then the up/down arrow to change state.
-
The only time I turn RB on is when I am wearing my shorty and riding with others who have CB's and say something to me. It just lets them know I heard what they were saying to me.
-
The RB is transmitted at the release of the PTT switch. It is not heard by the person talking but rather by everyone else. The CB is automatically on for both helmets and she can talk by holding either PTT button. If she pushes her PTT and talks, she transmits and if you hold your PTT button and she talks she transmits over the radio. She might need to turn the passenger volume knob up to hear the CB better. I really can't stand RB's or those truckers with echo boxes. Just annoys the crap out of me.

Wobble with sidecar-comments please
SaltyDawg replied to labill's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A side car on a 2nd Gen. Interesting. Could someone post some pics? I would really like to see how it looks. Been looking for something I could haul my Beagle around in. Thanks Wayne -
Wow this is a tragedy. I will keep them in my prayers that's for sure.

Yeah they do make them and you can find them on ebay, just be forewarned that they DO NOT fold down. I emailed the company to find out. If the mustang is not a one piece seat I don't see why a Diamond R or Utopia wouldn't work. Then again I am not familiar with the Mustang seat.

I have had this happen with my stebel along with my stock horn. It seems to me it has more to do with the SWR on the CB antenna than anything. The higher the SWR the more feedback encountered according to my impromptu testing. The farther from the center channels the less feedback I encounter. Getting out to channels 7 and under and 35 to 40 I encounter no feedback through the CB. BTW I have my horn done through a relay connected directly to the batt. Just my 2 cents.

In a word "YES". It's a lot better than the stock I can tell you for sure. The moisture ie rain, fog blow up and off although some does come down on the inside but it's still a lot better than stock. I have the shorty and it is actually 1 inch shorter than the stock wind shield but it is angled back so I actually see over it when sitting on the bike normally. Not so with the stock I have to sit up straight and actually lift my butt off the seat to see over it. This shield is no better than stock for shedding rain/fog at speeds under 50mph though. Above that and the shape of the shield creates a pressure difference across the front of the shield and blows the moisture off. I put my stock on for a test to see how much air I was getting and whether or not my head buffeted around because I am going on a long trip to Florida and have had neck surgery. Well I can tell you this, it fogged up on me and I couldn't see at all, had to strain to see over the shield and MAN WAS IT HOT. No air flow, no buffeting either, but I'll take air flow and buffeting any day over that heat. Put the Clearview back on that evening. The clearview allows more air to hit both riders, at least the shorty does. I don't have any experience with the taller ones. Once Beer 30 gets some riding with his new one and forms an opinion on that, I might consider going to a taller one with a vent.

The fuse is located behind the right lower faring. You have to take the faring off to get to it. It is dedicated to the carb heaters only.

Yes the 2nd Gens have carb heaters and if you are in a moderate climate there really is no need for them since they rob needed amperage from the RSV. Not really sure if you need them in colder climates either. Living in NC there really is no need to use them and I just pulled the fuse. They came on at temps below 63 and would draw a good .8VDC from the electrical system. I have not noticed any performance issues with the fuse out.

would you buy a RSV again?
SaltyDawg replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not only would I buy one again. I did. Same year different color. I feel so strongly about the RSV that I bought a 99 this past December without hesitation, even though it was way out of warranty and had 42,000 miles on it. Sure there are a few problems with the RSV, but all in all it's a great motorcycle for the money. Let me clear something up. I sold my first 99 because I had neck surgery and my doctor told me to never ride again. There was nothing mechanical wrong with the bike. I couldnt' stand not having a motorcycle and looked into GW's and RK's only to come running back to the RSV. My new to me 99 has the whine that others complain about but to tell the truth I never noticed it until someone actually posted something that sounds a lot like it. Then riding home I listened for it and heard it. No big deal for me, others can't hear it and even if they could I could care less. If it were to bother me I would just turn the music up louder. -
Glad you made it home safely. You sure are a fun guy to talk to. I enjoyed seeing you at the Vietnam Veterans Ride. Thanks for coming.

Does your cooling fan come on??
SaltyDawg replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Personally I wouldn't just let my bike sit at idle just to check the cooling fan. What if the fan is actually damaged and not working then you run the risk of overheating your engine. My fan has not come on with this RSV, but on my first RSV I had it come on during a traffic jam several times. Believe me you will know when it comes on. You will be blasted by a 200 degree "breeze" for a minute or so. Very uncomfortable when sitting in traffic on a hot day sweating your backside off.
