Sorry to hear of your problems Dan. I don't know of any "Natural" way of getting to sleep. With all the stress I have been under lately I was having a real hard time falling asleep. Staying awake to 3 in the morning at times when I have to get up at 4. Or waking up shortly after falling asleep and not being able to get back to sleep. I don't know you feelings on booze but I have found that a couple fingers of Red Stag on the rocks a half hour before bed has been letting me sleep through the night. It's been the first time in years. For me it just allows my mind to rest because for some reason when I go to bed my mind won't shut down. I don't drink to get drunk, and unless it's a Friday or Saturday night I don't have more than one drink. Everyone has different feelings on booze and I don't mean to offend anyone. This is what I have found and it has been very helpful in my case.

Don if there is one left I will take it off your hands. let me know.

Man I feel for you. That happened to me when I was in the Marine Corps doing a PFT. Tore my right bicep in two. Our flight surgeon hadn't seen anything like that. The muscle actually tore in the middle not where it attached to the bone. Long recovery is ahead, and like others mentioned, do what the doctors say.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. That was a special thing they did for you, but from what I can tell you two have been special to them also. This is a way to always honor your friend, do so with pride. I won't hold the HD against you. Wayne

The popping you heard was probably a bad connection either on the battery or the jump starter you were using. If the connection isn't good the electricity will ark and spark sometimes causing a "PoPing noise. Then it usually won't work unless you reseat the connection. Just my thoughts. Glad you got it started, but I would replace the battery especially heading into Winter. At the very least keep a trickle charge on it.

Remember it was the Hero that I bought. There are other versions so I can't vouch for what comes with them.

Shooter, I am truly sorry to hear about this horrific accident. My prayers are with their families and the entire group. I didn't pay attention to who posted this and you were the first person I thought of while reading the story. It is a shame that three, possibly four lives are lost in order to get them to fix that tunnel. Again, I am truly sorry about this. Thanks for letting us know. Gerbings Heated Gear and my 09 RSV
SaltyDawg replied to csogbk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm thinking it would depend on what wattage the bulbs are. I can see the RSTD having a bit more juice available but I really don't think the audio system draws that much juice. Just my thoughts. -

Sorry I haven't been on for a few days. The fuse is located behind the Right Lower Fairing. You need to take the RLF off with the three bolts and you will see the fuse box on the front of the bike. -
That thing live near Three Mile Island?

I got the GoPro Hero and it does come with the suction mount, also 2 helmet, and 2 flat surface double sided tape mounts. I love my GoPro, my only problem is I haven't been on a ride to the mountains so I could get something other than riding around here. BTW I suggest getting some GOOD Rechargeable Batteries because it can eat up some batteries real quick.

Gerbings Heated Gear and my 09 RSV
SaltyDawg replied to csogbk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
To be honest nobody had figured out what they are actually for. The Royal Stars don't have them. I have had two RSV's and pulled the fuse on both of them and have had no ill effects. They are supposed to keep the carbs from icing, but unless you are riding at very high elevations (like where planes fly) in high humidity I can't see how the carbs would ice up. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I haven't experienced it and I ride year round, with many many days below freezing and often in the teens. Some folks have put a switch in to break the circuit from the sensor in order to shut the carb heaters off. I guess in case they felt they needed them in a pinch. To me it was just easier to pull the fuse. I have heard no cons of disabling the heaters. The Pros are 60 big ones and they are all watts. That's another 5 amps to be used elsewhere, like heated clothing. -
Willie Nelson????? He's still alive??? Who knew?

You can always pull the fuse for the carb heaters and get 60watts back, should be enough to run all that gear. I have had mine pulled since I got the bike almost 3 years ago and I have ridden in temps down to 12 degrees for over an hour with no problems. Plus my RSV sits in an open garage so it gets as cold as the outside temp at night. The thing you have to remember about any charging system is that when you load it up with external gear it takes longer to recharge the battery. A lot of people have problems with bikes especially big V-Twins because it takes so much juice to start them and they only ride 5-10 miles before shutting them off and then doing it all over again. It takes about 20 minutes at highway speed to recharge a battery after just starting one of those suckers. So if you are planning on short trips with the heated gear you are going to have battery problems regardless of whether you are over taxing the charging system or not. In that case I would get a battery tender and put it on the bike every night. -
Turn the CB on select the SPK option on the audio controller. You might have to turn the squelch down to hear the CB static and adjust the volume that way. But yes you can hear over the speakers without a headset.

First off you need to concern yourself with how many amps whatever you chose will require and make sure the charging system can handle it. I bought the warm gear gloves from Cozy Winters as well as the heated socks. Both are great as long as you get heattrollers. I will advise you to purchase separate heattrollers for each piece of equipment. I bought the dual and although it works good on cold days it "Shares" the wattage draw. So with both turned up all the way you only get half on each. Sucks on those really cold days. Got to turn one down and the other up and switch back and forth. Not this winter, getting me another single. I highly recommend getting a set of 1000 denier fleece lined chaps from http://www.coloradochaps.com/motorcycle_chaps.html it was by far the best investment in warmth I have made. I used to wear a set of Arctiva bib and jacket and now they both sit in the closet. If you get the chaps pay the extra and get the knee/shin guards. They will keep the material off of you knees and you will stay very warm. In fact this past Winter I rode 50 miles in 12 degrees and when I got to work and took the chaps off my legs actually felt warm to the touch. I could never make that claim with the Arctiva suit. Don't let anyone fool you, that engine will only keep your feet warm for so long. I ride 50 miles to work and without the heated socks in temps below 35 my feet are chunks of ice within 30 minutes. And I have the Yamaha deflectors on. BTW with the Fleece lined chaps and a leather jacket with liner all I need are the heated gloves and socks. I do wear a Scampa Pharoh Balaclava, http://www.solomotoparts.com/product.php?productid=20176 but that is with a 1/2 or 3/4 helmet. I have a full faced modular this year so I don't know if I will need it. It's is the most comfortable balaclava I have ever worn.

Does your fuel light come on when your turn your key on?
SaltyDawg replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
I have a fuel light? Who knew. Mine hasn't worked since I got the darn thing. That's what reserve is for. -
Another Alaska Leather recommendation from me. Great folks. Mention this site and you might get a 10% discount. I have had my sheepskin for 8 years and it's still like new. I have also bought their sheepskin insoles for winter riding and highly recommend them. Pick up a bottle of Anti-MonkeyButt powder too. Great for those long rides on hot days.

I also have the GXM-30 for the Zumo but and considering getting rid of it. I can get Sirrius XM on my iPhone for 7 bucks and although you don't get everything on the GXM it covers most of what I want. I see no need to pay the xtra anymore. I can't remember the last time I listened to the GXM. I imagine if I lived where cell reception wasn't so good I would stay with the GXM because it is a pretty good unit, but most of the area around me is 3G or ATT Edge and XM on my phone may drop out for a couple seconds every once and a while.

Good luck to your Son. He couldn't be going with a better trained force. I know because I see them train everyday. I know you are proud of him as we all are. It's good that he is fired up, that means he is focused on the mission and THAT will keep him sharp. I know that you guys are scared for him but rest assured he is going with a special breed of warrior who look out for their own. He will be safe. What unit is he with? I work at Camp Lejeune, NC and the East Coast Staff Command Elements train in my facility. Believe me you son as well as every Marine, Soldier, Sailor, Coastie, and Airman are in my prayers. They keep us safe and free. Semper Fi Teufel Hunden

Saw them last month they were touring with Kid Rock. Man what a concert, They came out and tore it up, then Kid Rock Rocked the place all night long. Concert started at 7 and ended at almost mid night. With only 20 minutes in between the two.
