I'm not wanting to hijack the thread, but where was that photo taken?

I believe I got all of the good out of these pads.
1sttenor replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
I must be easy on them. I just did a complete rear end maintenance at 19,7XX and have about 50% left on them all the way around. To change the subject, what's everyone's preferred replacement pads? -
I'm guessing that it was the front left? We have a fleet of these trucks. They all go bad, most under warranty. I'd call the dealer, they might do it under warranty, even if its a little over.

I've got 20K on the ole 06 RSV now and had never pulled the shaft out. Well, while I had the rear tire off for a change, I decided to pull the shaft to lube the splines. Glad I did, there was no lube on them that I could see, looked completely dry from the factory, but that's another rant altogether. Once started, it took only 15 minutes to pull and lube the shaft...and 2 1/2 hours to reinstall! My question is: What rocket scientist came up with that u-joint configuration? OK, now I'm done venting and I understand why they wanted 3 hours labor to do the job at the dealer. I just had to walk away a couple of times or I was going to throw the shaft across the garage... I got it all back together and all is well, but did I miss something? Other than that little access hole, a coat hanger, and 3 six foot long arms (one to hold the light, one to hold the hanger-turned u-joint hook and one to hold a light), is there a better way to line up the u-joint and shaft?

That was pretty funny!

Just a quick question. How often are y'all balancing your carbs? I've been thinking of getting a CarbTune outfit, but wasn't sure how much I'd use it.

I've got a questions on the beads...At what speed do they work. Physics would tell me that they probably aren't real accurate until at significant speed (45or better?). Is this true?

Excellent! I've put mine in the pouch behind my backrest, but occasionally it will move around in there and its hard to find the right button.

foot pegs on a venture

I'm with Goose. That's one of the things I like better on my RSV over the GW. -
I'll ride over! Have never met most of the Stl. area folk, be a great way to meet up.

Well, I finally got tired of the high prices of tires at the stealerships. Even if you get the tires online the shops want $60-$100 to mount my tires (after I've removed the wheels). So after reviewing articles here and elsewhere on the internet about the HF tire changer, Marc Parnes balancer, and MOJO lever, I've made the plunge to get them. I picked up the changer at Harbor Freight this weekend on sale for $98 ($49 each piece). The other pieces should be arriving this week. I'm thinking of mounting the changer on a 1/2 sheet of 3/4" plywood, so that I can remove it and store it easily. Has anyone got any experience with this method? I could put in concrete mounting holes, just thought this might be a little neater when not in use( no dirt or sawdust to get in the holes). Also, any other recommendations?

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
1sttenor replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Purolator 14610 or 12 must be the universal Japanese size. It fits my RSV, Infiniti G35, and 28HP Kawasaki mower engine. I buy them 6 at a time! -
I've been there several times, most recently in May. Took a Route 66 trip from Mo to Tucumcari, NM and then came back on 54. Dodge is not far off that route. The ONLY thing of note in DCity is the "Old Dodge" area. Its mostly a tourist trap that takes about 2 hours to see. The "Longhorn Saloon" as in Miss Kitty's is authentic looking. It has 3 or 4 authentic buildings and a steam locomotive. Other than that and a few good eateries, not much there. I have a few photos of it if you want to see them. PM me.

Nothing else to be said. I've got the Utopia, my buddy the Diamond R. Both are excellent!

Fewer this year than normal, but about 12K.

I think like a lot of things its a matter of taste. Where I live the roads are twisty. I rarely, maybe 5% of the time, ride on superslabs. The 130 is so must lighter feeling, I feel less tired after riding. I'll stick with them.

My group usually uses CB 3 as its a relatively low usage freq. I know of no channel you'll get any info on though. A lot of guys use 19, so if you do need info, you might go there and see if you can scare up anyone. Remember our CBs have a range of MAYBE 1.5 miles. Probably 3/4 is more like it.

I agree with those who say the best antilock brakes are between your ears. A group of us went down to NW Arkansas last week and while in a line of vehicles heading into Eureka Springs we were being passed and lane split by about 20 rice-rockets. I mentioned to the guys we'll probably see them later in Eureka Springs. Well it didn't take that long one of them hit a corner too hot and it was ugly. EMS was already there and he was bloody and on a stretcher. I felt bad for him, but it was obvious that it was totally self inflicted. I was young too, but we didn't have busas when I was young and I'm glad that is the case. Too much HP and adrenalin, not enough going on under the skid-lid.

I like for it to be at least 35. My bike is allergic to "black ice".

Elite 3 vs. Venom's
1sttenor replied to 1sttenor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Bill, I may just take you up on that. I'll go ahead and take off the wheel and just bring down the wheel and new rubber. I'm in no hurry, just got back from my 3rd road trip last week. The rear tire is worn to/beyond the limit I would ride it even to Eldon. We are in Taos. I was going to order a tire but wanted opinions. I'm probably going back with the E3. -
I was worried for a moment earlier, but all is well. You take great care of us. How do you have time to do anything else?
-
Two questions: Has anyone ever used both. I have been using E3s with good luck but, need to replace the rear @ 11.5K not bad, but could be better I think. The front has over 50% remaining. I just wondered if anyone could say which one lasted longer for them. Two I know a few posters on the site have said they've purchased the HF tire changer w/mc tire option. What's your opinion? Worth it and did you buy a mc tire balancer as well or how are you balancing your tire/wheels? I'm mechanically inclined, but also don't want to spend money on those and then go back to taking the wheels to the shop to change them out. Thanks for the advice.
