Relief from loud pipes
1sttenor replied to murphyt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a set of stocks in my garage as well. Free to good home. In Mid Missouri. Notice: Moriverrat has requested the pipes. As soon as we get a decent Sat. anyway. -
This is an area where I have to push myself too. I like to putt along. I know that the engine in these things want to run like he__. So I use sea foam every couple of months and run it hard much harder than normal for that tank. I think of it as preventive FUN! That was good advise given to me by the forum. FWIW.

gas mileage question
1sttenor replied to slick97spirit's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It will affect it. How much???? I usually get 45 when riding solo, no trailer and 60 MPH or less. 2-up with trailer is closer to 38. -
Here's to the HD pipes. Put mine on last year. I like!

I seem to be the bearer of not so good news lately!

Ditto that! -
I've had the opportunity to drive over these roads, but never ride them. BEAUTIFUL! They are on my retirement ride: 4,900 miles 17 states and three provinces. Only problem is I can't retire.

I agree with Squid on the Dunlop 404s in the rain. BAD!!! But I've really started liking my Elite 3s. They've worn well and absolutely NO movement on grating, tar strips or rain grooves. My FWIW

Nice job.

I finally got my first ride of the year in today. We had either bad weather or I was under the weather for the first few weekends of the year. I just wanted to say thanks to all the contributors on the site. Over the winter I've replaced and balanced both tires, pulled and lubed the shaft splines/hub, synced the carbs, put in a new power port for my GPS and various other do-it-yourself jobs all from information garnered on the site. You all have been a great source of info and support. I hope I will help someone else along the way someday too! This site is the best!

Welcome to VR! We have a great bunch of folks here...and its rated PG. I never worry about what I might be confronted with. Anyway, I've been on by my 06 for 3 years. I have had a 1200 and 1500 GW and while I liked them, I've never go back. For long trips, these are the cat's meow! You'd love it!

Ozark we feel your pain. The good folks in southern MO are with you. Two years ago the family farm my folks still live on was out for 20 days. They had to drive to KY for a generator and used 200 gals of gas before the lights came back on. Heres hoping your wait isn't that long.

I was told 2006 also. Although, I got a pair from a buddy that had a 2006 road king and they didn't have one, so I'm not sure what that actual date is.

I sent your post to a buddy who's been thinking of a new bike. Best of luck to you and I'll be praying for you and all those who are without work.

Not a personal evaluation, but one from a buddy. He bought a new 08 HD Ultra last year. We took a trip to the Smokies in June. His wife was complaining about the heat on her by the second day. He traded the bike for a 09 Ultra and she said they'd rerouted the pipes and it was better. Again not my experience, just a note from a buddy.

Ground Source heat pump is the cheapest heating source over the long haul. We built a new house in 2000 and installed one then. We're all electric now, had natural gas in the house before. That house was running $265/mo for utilities on a level pay plan. This house is almost 2.25 times the heated space, due to heating two garages and the electric bill is $149/mo. It will also heat your water. With all things being equal, the other house were it the same size, would be costing over $596 to heat, compared to our $149. At a monthly savings of approximately $447/mo, we've recooped the cost of the system ($15,500) 3 times over. They're great. WaterFurnace 5.5 ton unit, 3 zones

There is only one negative to down shifting and then only if you drop the gears a bit too quick...you can wear the rear tire a bit more than normal if your downshifting too quickly. I that no reason not to downshift. If you downshift smoothly, its by far the fastest way to assist in decell.

I'm not sure what you mean, but... I have a TomTom mounted on the left handlebar. The power outlet is on the fairing on the left side. You can plug in the sound output to the port next to the cassette player to run the directions and tunes through the stereo. Many of us have used a Y adaptor (you must split the fairing) so that you don't have to open the cassette door.

I've had mine for about a month, but was too sick to use it when it was nice weather, now we're having COLD weather. I can't wait to see how it looks. Mine's got 17K on it and never been touched.

My first Warranty Work

Thanks for the tips. I can hear it click, but I don't hear what I would think of as pressurizing the system. I'll check the fuse. OK, where's the fuse for it? I'm sure its in the manual. -
Well, I got my Carbtune over the holidays and we had a really nice riding day last week. So I decided pull out the skoot, warm it up, sync the carbs and go for a ride. Alas, when I went to start it ...nothing. It would crank but not fire. I finally got one cylinder to fire so it would idle for a few seconds but that was it. I had bought a new battery in October, so I put it in just to make sure, but it cranks fine with about 12-12.5v during cranking. When I parked it last I had put Sea Foam in the tank, filled it up and rode it home to park it; that was about November 1. I'm hoping that the cursed 10% ethanol in MO isn't rearing it head, but that's what I suspect. Any thoughts? I'll load it up in the trailer and head over to the Yammy dealer to see what they think.

I tend to like to ride with other bikers using our CBs. That is a great way to enjoy our beautiful land. However, with the company comes a problem. The speed that you can travel is inversely proportional to the number of riders you have in your group. For example: Last year 10 riders on 8 bikes (2 couples) rode from here in Missouri to the Smokies. Now understand we purposely ride the roads less traveled. We rarely ride on interstates or other major roads. In a group of 8-10 bikes on a long trip, you can only average about 40-44 miles/hr and still enjoy it. In the mountains, or even rugged terrain here in Southern Missouri/Northern Arkansas you have to lower your estimates even further, not necessarily due to the terrain, but because you want to see the scenery! With 2 bikes you can easily average 55 on normal roads and just reduce the speed a few miles/per for sightseeing. The numbers of bikes will determined whether you will fall above or below those averages. I only recommend this because many years ago on the first trip I planned, for 4 riders, I estimated 55 miles/hr. By the third day, it was apparent that we would have to cut several hundred miles from our trip and the main destination. So its something to consider.

A while back for my birthday I got a TomTom Go720. Very nice, but I was wanting a Zumo so that I could run my phone mike through the GPS. Well, has anyone ever tried to "Y" a Blackberry and TomTom in somehow so that you have receive your calls?
