  1. Well, finding the original light housing is friggin IMPOSSIBLE, so I decided to "Improvise"! I took a trip to Walmart & found $6. Blazer International LED Mini Clearance Lights. http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/02/88/45/02/0002884502586_180X180.jpg I put 2 in each of the openings. They are SUPER bright & they work GREAT!
  2. 1st here is my write up so you know what you're getting into. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66302 The slave cyl comes with the seals installed (it better for $70) http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-1FK-16381-11-00.html I bought #JP-15461-01-00 for my 84. If you take your time removing it you may get lucky like I did & not need to replace it. http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/motorcycle/Y-3JP-15461-01-00.html When I did mine I did not buy them & did not need to. Good Luck & "Happy Cursing"!
  3. Kevin what is the part number on that sheet for #9 (hard to make out on the image) Thanks
  4. I bought one of the ones from Pinwall you sent me. The unit came from a bike with 40K miles. with shippin it came to $70 bucks...but it works like a DREAM!
  5. No, I don't need the crystals (you're right I replaced them with amber mini barons, I need to find the complete light assemblies. The frames on my lights have cracked from age & broken away.
  6. OK as a followup to this old question...does anyone know what company made the running lights under the engine in the chrome air dam like the ones here. I need to find replacement light units as my frames cracked. http://images.canadianlisted.com/nlarge/3-4953495-1984-yamaha-venture-royal-1200cc-touring-nice-shape_7974178.jpg
  7. The write up! 78898.pdf
  8. The replacement was not as bad as I anticipated. Overall I spent 6 hours. 2 hours practicing on the parts bike. 2 hours doing the procedure on my blond & 2 hours tracing a water leak & cleaning up. I kept my OEM cables & she cranks fast...EVEN WHEN HOT! This has to be the BEST upgrade for the Gen 1
  9. Well my 4 brush starter came in today, the fun starts tomorrow. I'm going to do a practice replacement by doing this on my parts Venture 1st. Then it's on to the real deal! Wish me luck!
  10. I'm cheap As long as the "woop....woop...wo-op...Vroom" issue get's resolved without the cable, I'll be a happy camper!
  11. I'm in the same queue. I ordered a 4 brush starter & it should be here tomorrow. I got sick & tired of the S L O W cranking when she's hot...especially in stalled traffic. BTW will I have to change my cables to 4ga or will my existing gen 1 cables work properly?
  12. Aw C'mon Condor, it was easy to take out. You have to twist and start dropping it then CURSE EXTENSIVELY & repeat. Seriously, it's a tight fit but it comes out just above where the wires were originally routed. Installing the new one is very easy.
  13. Slave replacement ain't no big THANG! Do it & get it over with. I put a write up in the tech library with pix. It will basically show you what you're facing.
  14. Has anyone done a write up on the starter replacement?
  15. Attempting to Head down to OBX we go stuck in severe bumper to bumper traffic 6 miles from the house. About 30 minutes into the mess I miss shifted & stalled. Of course my 84 struggled badly to restart SO the good news is I just got the "approval" from the Mrs to, as she eloquently put it: "Go buy A G.D. 4 brush starter for this thing already!" So I just want to make sure: 1. Any 1999-present venture starter will bolt right up as a direct replacement CORRECT? 2. Do I need to replace the stock Gen 1 battery cables as well when replacing to a 4 brush? (if so what guage)
  16. Well the indicator issue turned out to be the rubber boot wasn't letting the pin work right. I fixed that now the indicator is working...although I can still shift into 1st with the sidestand down & it won't shut off the engine. Hmm Do I have to let out the clutch for that to cut off the engine?
  17. Yes it does. Actually it always has. I can recall pulling out with the side stand DOWN & smacking it up!
  18. Ok so lately I have encountered this little gremlin since I left Tail of the Dragon. The kick stand indicator (& blinking red light) stay on even after I lift up the side stand. If I slam it up it sometimes shuts off or while riding it will shut off eventually. Either way the bike starts up normally in neutral (whether the stand is up or down) So...is this a bad switch or a dirty switch?
  19. Well I decided to use a set of old aluminum ramps I bought years ago to load my lawn tractor into my pickup when I bought it at Lowe's (never used them again) They have a 1,300 Lb capacity. I widened them by attaching 12, 3 ft deck boards between them. As predicted, the Venture is bowing the board under it's rear wheel. I will have to place a bit of plywood across the boards to equalize the load across all the boards. Wheel chocks from Harbor Freight work GREAT. Without straps the Venture is off it's side stand sitting straight. Loading them both one was fairly easy. I made sure I had sufficient clearance below. The 6ft ramp worked GREAT since the deck is only 16 inches off the ground. Tomorrow I will be installing 10,000 Lbs capacity D rings. http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043960/IMG_20130724_142321.jpg http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043960/IMG_20130724_142333.jpg http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043960/IMG_20130724_142346.jpg
  20. I replaced the ones on my 84 with a set I found at Walmart. They've been in there for a year & a half with no problems. They have been in rain & still sound good ESPECIALLY for the $16 price! http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-HD4303-4-3-Way-Car-Speakers-Car-Speakers-Pair-of-Speakers/17128650 http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/03/39/91/03/0003399103261_180X180.jpg
  21. Ok I finished Painting the fenders & fastening all the deckboard (I'll post pix tomorrow) Here is where I need input ideas. LOADING RAMPS - to hold the Venture's weight. I am looking for inexpensive. It doesn't have to be a tailgate (I have storage room) I figure 4 ft wide to be able to handle a disabled bike being walked If I made it out of wood what would be the best contruction to meet the above? My deck is 16" from the ground so I think 6 feet long would suffice.
  22. When I was a young man my Daddy gave me similar words of wisdom, he said: "Son, never marry a beautiful woman, she'll leave you and break your heart" So I asked him, "Couldn't an ugly woman leave you as well?" he said, "Of course, but you won't care as much!"
  23. Not sure as of yet, I want to keep the weight down BUT if I need them I will definitely add them. Steel Fenders assembled & spot welded together, then I stick welded the fenders to the frame. Primed & undercoated the fenders...Paint to match next. I also added 1/4 wheel spacers to give me additional clearance on the 215 60 14 tires against the frame. GETTING THERE! http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043728/IMG_20130719_143552.jpg http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043728/IMG_20130719_143424.jpg http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043728/IMG_20130719_143610.jpg
  24. TIME TO WELD the pieces together! I do have to trim about 3 inches off height of these to make them fit perfect. Time to break out the metal fab tools! http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n4043710/1003329_383916575043698_1986690648_n.jpg
