Exhaust turn downs
cabreco replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Don't know if that is a Markland. The Marland I have is in the below photo. The 2 springs connect to holes in the bottom of the bar on each side. Hopefully someone else has that bar on the forum. -
Exhaust turn downs
cabreco replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Randy, One of my sleeves rotted out & disintegrated. What I did was cut the other one in half & shared it. The only thing is that I needed to make sure that TWO springs on each side that hold them to the Markland rear light bar were new to make sure it had a snug fit. -
Brian, I have one of those. I bought it about 7 years ago at harbor freight. My current house has a fireplace (something I never had before) so excitedly I bought a cord of wood. IMO, the unit works. It's better than using an axe but it does have limitations. The brackets will only accomodate an 6 1/2" diameter log, so anything thicker won't fit. If you cut them & modify , it will still cut but it is hard work. In retrospect if I had to do it again I would have gotten the electric hydaulic one. They are now about $280 http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/160x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_23678.jpg

I have no idea on priceing of Gen1 chrome so I want to ask you guys. Is $180 a good price for the trunk light bar, Caliper & rotor covers in perfect shape?

Officially a 3 generation Venture family
cabreco replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
Glad he finally got off the crotch rocket. I'm guessing the leg was a complete heal? You three can now start your own "Tri Cities Gang"! -
Using a voltmeter I am withing those specs. I have been doing some research on batteries & I did find the Johnson Controls makes most batteries. The big issue is they all have different specs. Autozone, Walmart, Advanced all buy a lower grade battery. Sears also buys but they are higher grade. Deka seems to be a winner in all aspects.

Checked for an amp draw and saw none. Checked the charging system & it was putting out as per specs. I didn't have this issue with the old battery, it was just very old & I was being proactive. The load test on the battery after I fully charged it showed it just above weak. Not what I expected from a 4 month battery.

2 years Christmas eve!

Before I left for tail of the dragon last 4th of July, I replaced the battery in my Gen 1 because it was cranking wierd. Now usually I buy Advanced Auto AGM batteries which have a 1 year warranty. My CB 750 has one & it never fails. Unfortunatly they didn't have the one for my bike so I wound up going to Autozone. They had the same AGM $10 cheaper but with only a 3 month warranty. When I got back from Deal, I also replaced the starter to a 4 brush unit. The issue I have been having is after 4 days, she cranks slowly & then dies out. If I A load test show the battey just over weak...of course it's out of warranty. I'm looking to replace it & need some help. What I am looking for is a battery of the same durablity as the Old Sears Die Hard battery was back in the day. 30 years ago, when you use to say DIE HARD batteries, you were talking EXCEPTIONAL! So I need a heavy duty battery for my Gen 1 with a long warranty which can sit a week without leaving me flat. Any help would be appreciated

Hell that would have been my FIRST thought!

Randy, loss of focus is a big issue but then compounded by the fact that these bike weigh a ton, they are awkward & top heavy and crawl speed, and to be honest we ain't getting younger. I can lose momentary focus on my cb750 & still recover with no major incident. I'm 54 an I have already begun the reseach into triking. I figure I can push it until my early 60's. Since the Ms. & I love taking bike road trips, I know I need a big 1200cc plus bike. This of course means weight. Personally, I don't want to think about falling over even now! IDK your age but it may be time to start planning. Always planning for the next step.

Differences between a rigid sidecar vs leaning one
cabreco replied to cabreco's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
No, I was looking at a few RSV's at a meet & eat last year. Compared to my Gen1 they were vey low. I did get to straddle a nice Ultra Glide which felt NIIIICE! I just hate to plunk down HUGE coin for the Harley name. I looked at the 1800 Goldwing and they are as tall as my Gen1. I do like the RSV dash & lines & you can get a nice low mileage one under 10k. -
Differences between a rigid sidecar vs leaning one
cabreco replied to cabreco's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
The Gen1 was bought for long distance rides. My wife & I ran down to tail of the Dragon this summer which is about 9 hours from home. We had a lot of fun but it was hard on the bones. By the time I got home I could barely lift the Gen 1 off the side stand because of the tall stance that it has. So we are looking for alternatives. I do have a CB750 that I ride around town, and I do plan on picking up either an Ultra Glide or an RSV for touring closer to home. Both of those have a nice low stance & is easier to manage. Since my gen 1 only has 16K original miles it would make a lasting trike for the long hauls, especially pulling a trailer. -

The ural is a nice rig. The price of the Equilean I saw was cheap $1,500 considering it's all set up for a Gen1 BUT I think I'll probably just go with my original idea & trike my Gen 1. -

Thanks Brian. I found my exact answer in one of their threads. A flex rig would ride like my solo bike using leans & counterbalance only it's like balancing 2 bikes at once. Something I could do NOW but my ability to do so would diminish as I get up in years. Thanks for the help -
Bottom line you have proof of shipping & proof of handoff to the carrier. Since it's not a damage claim or a claim that you did not send what you sold. The liability is out of your hands. Ebay will ask you for proof of SHIPPING. If the UPS # shows delivered, the issue is out of your hands & it is between the recipient & UPS. UPS leaves packages on my porch as well & I have NEVER given authorization for them to do so. They do this for THEIR convenience.

What are the main differences between a "regular" sidecar and the leaning one (beside that the bike can lean). What are the handling capabilities. My reason to trike or sidecare is stability as I get older, would a leaning rig make the bike twice as heavy to stand up from the sidestand or is it the same as a rigid rig?

There is NO WAY wind could EVER knock these bikes onto it's starboard side off the side stand...ok maybe in a cat 4 hurricane. You got punked! Locking the steering is always a good idea also a cheapy alarm with a motion/shock sensor ($50 buck on amazon) would have gone off before they had time to drop her. If it were kids they might have run off beforehand or at least neighbors may have noticed who did it. Hopefully you don't have much damage. Kevin, Oh that it heartbreaking to see man. quick question... On the handlebars, are those aluminum posts holding the grips for GPS or phone brackets? If so where did you get them?

I rebuilt my slave cylinder when I bought my bike because the PO had bought the rebuild kit & it was in the trunk. It was simple enough, ( I did a writeup) but I think I just got lucky. I've read here that many who rebuild wind up replacing anyway. I had nothing to lose but time. If I had to do it again I would just buy a new one since they are not that expensive anyway. The only irritation you will face it taking the damn slave cylinder out.

Jim I replaced my horns with 2 units from a mid 2000 Lincoln Continental and a relay. They are Fiamm horns & loud as hell. I was also able to use tha back chrome pieces from my oem horms to dress them up.

15 lbs pressure in front tire
cabreco replied to bngarner's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Absolutley. I don't depend my life on these but I use them as a guide. When I install them I spary them down with soapy water to make sure nothing is leaking. Of course it goes without saying that before any lengthy ride that I do take a pressure check with a gauge as tire with 15 psi looks as good as 40psi on the sidestand. These are just a helpful tool that at a quick glace would warn you that your tire pressure is significantly & dangerously low.
