  1. No "getting away" involved. Get a Concealed carry permit & Buy the Gun Travelers Guide Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States | Gun Laws for the 50 States Laws & requirements of all 50 states.
  2. Doug Seafoam is a great idea. Do that BEFORE you replace the plugs. As Seafoam will caca the plugs.
  3. Doug, that's normal for me. I usually cycle the fuel pump 3 times by turning the emergency switch on & off with the ignition on until it doesn't click anymore. But DEAD COLD especially in winter, it takes several tries before she will stay running.
  4. Do you have the 4 brush starter? My 84 was rough to initially start as well & then of course, when it was hot it would be a pain. Once I replaced the starter to a Gen 2 starter & got a new battery from Skydoc, my starting woes ended.
  5. I replaced mine with a pair of horns from a mid 2000 Lincoln Continental. Been in there a year or so & they are loud!
  6. I guess it's not to popular a swap. I would suppose the ride would be ok for day to day riding. My biggest concern would be riding 2 up loaded on a road trip & possibly pulling a trailer. I LOVE the progressives that I put in the front. Replacing the rear would be a relief so that I could get ride of the air ride.
  7. Thanks for all the help on these arm rests installation issue. As I mentioned before I picked up a set of drop down armrests off an '83 Goldwing. With all the help, i was able to retrofit them to my 1st Gen, then color match the pads. Thanks again everyone!
  8. I agree on your color choices ESPECIALLY with that awesome 2 toned seat! The LED are wired to the running light circuit on the directional signals.Simple connect with quick wire splice connectors. The chrome air scoops (The Chin) on the front lowers I believe are aftermarket. IDK the manufacturer, but they show up on Ebay. I did replace the original lights with LED units because the light housing were cracked on mine. I got it from a parts bike I bought.
  9. Has anyone on the forum swapped out the rear air shock with a Progressive 465? Is it a better ride? Basically what I am asking is...Is it worth the money?
  10. Nice Job Doug. I know what you're going through, I rebuilt my 84 from sad to not bad at all. Here's an Idea you may not have thought of since you were asking about LEDs. Found these at Walmart gives me added visibility on the road. I also have LED driving lights attached to the chin. They are all chrome bullet halogens which I replaced the halogen bulbs with LED replacements I found at Home Depot. Good luck on the progress, have you decided on what color to paint her?
  11. $359?? OUCH! The unit is not bad (especially because of the price) I've had it in now (2 bikes) for over a year now. No issues on either one.
  12. I have disc locks, but I rarely use it because I'm afraid I will forget it's on. I do use it on overnight road trips. I did want something else that would notify me, ESPECIALLY when in hotels on road trips. I found this on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006RBKJF2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It was easy to install, motion detector, engine cut off, & because it's 2 way no only does the siren ring, it also sends a signal to the keyfob. I did install a hidden cut off micro switch to cut power to the alarm during storage so the battery does not drain .
  13. NICE!
  14. That was quick LoL. Oh well, no harm no foul. I'm back to the original plan then, modifying the GW armrests to fit my MK1 (Swing down version) I just hope the wife can navigate over them without issue. This is what I picked up.
  15. I would definitely like to see that fabrication. I just picked up a nice set from an 83 GW for $35
  16. I know this is a really old thread but, what was the final disposition on mounting early 80's GW arm rests on a MK1?
  17. Randy give this a shot. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005257R0O/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER]Amazon.com: VHT SP888 Red Nite Shades - 10 oz.: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/410Xx7LH1jL.@@AMEPARAM@@410Xx7LH1jL[/ame]
  18. I replaced mine last year, I got them from Cycle Parts Nation. They were great & delivered fast. http://www.aftermarketcyclepartsnation.com/Drag-Specialties-BARON-TWIN-AND-BARON-MINI-TWIN-MARKER-LIGHTS-detail.htm?productid=7922788
  19. Check out Grundy Worldwide http://www.grundy.com/ They are reasonably priced. I have 4 vehicles insured for $300K liability & $6K agreed value each & I pay $246/year. What I like about them is there is no annual driving mileage limitations.
  20. Hey Rob Welcome BACK! BTW...I finished what you started! Recognize her?
  21. For road trips or on the open highway, I always wear full gear. (Full face helmet, Armored jacket, jeans boots gloves etc). Local riding on my 1st gen I will use a 1/2 helmet yet same as above because of the weight of the bike. For a quick hop to the store a mile away on my CB750 (which after owning a 1st gen for a few years feels like a dirtbike) I have been know to grab just my 1/2 helmet & ride with short sneakers & a T-shirt.
  22. I would assume that our 1200 can't get 60 due to old technology (I'm sure this thing is ECU controlled) and of course aerodynamics. Our bodies on top of the bikes does cause significant drag, especially with a passenger. BUT now for the NEWS... Ladies & Gentlemen, I believe the world as we know it is coming to an end. The Mrs has approved & authorize this purchase. I am now one of the 19,000+ who are on the waiting list for a 2015 Elio. Her only requests is that it be green & automatic. I say HELL YEAH! \ So Randy guess you'll be seeing one "Up close & personal!"
  23. With regard to helmet & Mc endorsement, this is the response that I got from them. Elio Motors: Right now Andy, the legislation varies from state to state, and we're working hard to remove any motorcycle endorsement or helmet requirements! Here's the current status of the motorcycle helmet laws:

  25. The most feasible way for the gov't to do this would be by switching to a gas tax based on car mileage rather than per gallon. This is currently being studied in some states due to the advent of higher mileage cars, hybrids & electrics. In the end they always get their pound of flesh!
