  4. Gary I read this on another forum dated last May. Maybe it will help. I just went through this process today, with a 1999 Honda Civic, importing from Canada to the USA. I'm a Canadian citizen but permanent resident of the US for the past 8 years. I had a lot of anxiety about it, but it turned out to be a simple process As other posters mentioned, you do not need the HS-7. What you need is a letter on original letterhead from the manufacturer (in my case, American Honda, if importing a Honda manufactured in Canada into the USA). Do this in advance, as it took a few weeks to get this letter from them. I crossed the Windsor-Detroit border today with a temporary 10-day plate on the car I obtained in Ontario when the title was transferred to me (at a cost of $15). The customs officer asked me for the vehicle registration/title before even asking for my ID (a greencard, in my case), and when I planned to import the car. I said, "uh...now". I didn't realize there was an option?? Anyway, he sent me inside to fill out a form "CBP 7501" - "Entry Summary". They asked for the vehicle registration, my ID again, and gave me an explanatory form to help me fill out the form correctly. They inspected the car, had a big discussion about one ambigous line in the letter from US Honda stating the car was "non-compliant" re: instrument panel differences. (i.e. km/hr vs mph on the odometer), went out to inspect the car again, and then issued me 2 copies of the stamped, approved 7501, one for me and one for Secretary of State so I can register the car here in Mich. They were extremely courteous and helpful. As long as you have a letter from the manufacturer stating the vehicle complies with US standards, you will be ok. Make sure you have a temp plate on the car and insurance. Do your homework! Many late-model cars are importable into the USA. Expect to spend a half hour or so at customs going through the process, but they will help you through it. Oh, and another good thing...I was charged ZERO duty on it at the border. I asked the Customs Officer what I should write under the "value" section on the form, as the car was used and a gift to me from my dad. He guesstimated $2000, but wrote $0 in the value for duty section, so I was charged no duty. He said if I had been importing a brand new Ferrari, I'd be assessed duty, but not for an older car like the Honda. When I register the car at the Secretary of State office on Tues., they will likely charge state tax on the assessed value of $2000. I'm ok with that! Glad to see this forum here. The process of importing cars can be a bit mystifying. Just do your homework! The info is available online or with a phonecall or two. Just make sure you have your ducks in a row when you show up at Customs. They will help you with the paperwork. Cheers! E-mail me if I can help in any way. I can relate to the confusion on this...took me months to sort it all out, but in the end, it was a process, but a smooth one.
  5. Brian this install is really way too easy! If you take it super slow, you be done in 2 hours. Although it makes no difference in performance which way you install the springs, installing them tight coils down cuts down on noise. I also didn't use the supplied washers. I took the OEM ones & inverted them around the PCV spacer. The OEMs have a lip so they won't move when installing the fork cap.
  6. Sound very suspect to me as well. You would think that after several incidents IN THE SAME AREA, the Police would looking out for it? Maybe it's time to get some research & stats & make some noise at the local PD & the media in the area! Glad your daughter is ok. THAT'S the important thing.
  7. I feel your pain Brother, I'm in the same boat! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3335/3648844557_bcb743f3bf_o.gif
  8. Well after a few weeks, & having checked almost everything, I am down to this. I start her up...no smell. I drive around...no smell. I park her in the garage, & she will stink for about an hour or so. I vent the garage & there is no smell until I go out again. Since I have no leaks ANYWHERE, the only thing left would be the floats are set too high or the carb is set too rich. Does anyone have a writeup on how to do both? Will I need to re sync the carbs afterward?
  9. Should I leave the old oil in the crank?
  10. Question for the Venture Gurus How should I store the parts bike engine? I'm going to build a crate for it & remove the carb bank. How should I store the engine? with oil in the crackcase? with the stator attatched? and so on... I appreciate the suggestions. It's has 60K on it. It will probably be a rebuild project once I move to Tn. Right now its just sitting in the frame w/o wiring.
  11. Bill, I had both stripped screws on the reservoir & a leaking slave cylinder. The reservoir screw was simple enough with a screw extractor. Before you go hit it with some deep creep so it soaks. Dingy has great replacement stainless hex screws. Rebuilding the slave is a joke...removing it from the bike it a PITA. (there's a tech write up in the 1st gen library. The key is the drop & twist & make sure you have long hex sockets. Safe trip buddy! All things considered it didn't take too long to fix the above.
  12. I haven't specifically found this information on here yet so I figure I would share it to make it easier for anyone looking to use a Garmin GPS & pair it with a bluetooth headset. According to Garmin, the only Garmin Devices that support pairing with a Bluetooth headset are the nuvi 765, 775 , 785, StreetPilot 2820, zumo 220*, 550, 660 and 665. When a headset is paired with these devices the listener will be able to hear phone calls, navigation prompts, or MP3 music (if the device has a MP3/Media Player). All other Garmin Bluetooth-enabled devices are only capable of pairing with a Bluetooth cell phone. The exception is the zumo 220. It will only pair to a Bluetooth headset or helmet and does not have the ability to pair to a Bluetooth-enabled phone.

Congratulations Mike...Welcome to your 2nd teenage!!! I retired a few years back at 50 and it was a bit of a challege figuring out how to keep busy. 1st forget about sleeping late, not only can't you do it...but nobody will let you anyway. So I spend my days torturing the wife...very important step, if not she WILL create a "honeydo" list. I also have hobbies. I took the MC safety course & got my MC endorsement after a 30 year lapse. Bought my Honda to ride around, bought my Venture to ride with the Mrs. I picked up an XBOX 360, a 52" flat screen Bravia & copy of Grand Theft Auto 4 the went online with it. Ok now I also have a 63 Merc I restored. The next thing I took up was living "Green". I grow Peppers, Tomato, squash, eggplant etc in my veggie garden. I also built a wind turbine generator & will be adding solar panels to power my barn. HHO was something I wanted to try to build. I built an HHO generator for my 2002 Ford Explorer.I did get 30% better mileage but it needed constant tweaking because of the CPU. I also run one in a 74 Beetle with fantastic results. I did give in to the wife & I remodeled the kitchen installed hardwood floors on the 1st floor of the house. I also redid the deck. She wants both stairways decarpeted & hardwood finished. I started a comprehensive welding course recently. Plasma, Mig, Tig, Arc & oxyaceteline torches. (Yes I have plans on buying welders soon) LOL! I have a few plans on hardtailing the 750, & building a trailer. So, you see where I'm going with this? Retirement is the art of keeping busy. Unfortunately that usually mean you spend money. The key is to find an activity that you enjoy. It's a GREAT time...ENJOY it!
  15. Yes, I got them from there. Bought all 4 side marker crystals. Actually the link for the side markers were http://www.aftermarketcyclepartsnation.com/Drag-Specialties-BARON-TWIN-AND-BARON-MINI-TWIN-MARKER-LIGHTS-detail.htm?productid=7922788 Great quality
  16. The solid answer is after! (according to the Yamaha dealership service tech) I asked, ok now you can S L E E P.. http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt335/bjtilt/th_Smiley-sleeping.gif(LOL)
  17. Man Bill, and I thought I was OCD? We have a saying here in Virginia..."It is what it is". Let it go man...calm...shhh shh, it's all good. http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/CBSA/thumb_smileyvault-cute-big-smiley-animated-049.gif (LOL)
  18. I can answer that (imagine a newbie with an answer) hen I went to the dealer to get fork oil. I spoke to the service tech about the procedure. He said: "compress the fork, fill he tubes (although he said 409cc he specifically said 5 1/2" from the top) then pump the tubes 5 or 6 time to fill the dampeners. Compress the forks & re measure the level. Expand the forks & install the springs.
  19. Gary, before you shoot any primer (especially after the cocktail of removers) I would recommend that you use a good plastic cleaner to prep the ABS. One thing I did learn well in automotive painting...Clean prep & clean again!!! I will suggest Sherwin Williams Aqua prep. Excellent product for ABS. Well worth it to avoid getting orange peel or fish eye from all the citrus removers.
  20. Bill, Skydoc explained this to me as follows: The forks are cast parts not machined so they are not all identical. Imperfections will cause the the +/- fluid level issues.
  21. The case mount I got was not waterproof, just weather resistant. I figured that was good enough since I don't plan on riding in the water but for $15 it was worth it. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/ME-MM-WPCS-5D-Motorcycle-Mirror-Mount-Garmin-Nuvi-2450-1695-1490LMT-1490T-/20/!CD+9VqgCGk~$(KGrHqF,!h8E0Ew!imMRBNQcQhztrg~~_3.JPG I'm not much of a foul weather rider but I figure in case I do get stuck in rain gear weather, I would either pull over or put away the unit. But those bags look interesting!
  22. Thank God the intercom has mute!
  23. When she goes online and orders you a brand spankin new 5", direct sunlight view, GPS with a weatherproof case & handlebar mount...exclusively for the bike! http://www.gpstraveler.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/-574721906406500690.jpg
  24. Go easy with the DA, remember it's not fiberglass it's ABS. Imperfections will be an issue. Although bondo will adhere to ABS, it will eventually flake off. What I've done before on old Hondas is used 600 or 800 wet sandpaper to remove it if I was going to change the striping scheme. If not reduce it until it is barely visible & use it as a guide for the new stripes.
  25. Dingy since you used thinner, I assume you are painting the panels. Just a footnote: Goo Gone if you are not planning to repaint Goof off will eat the paint. Gary you may want to use mineral sprits or 3M has a adhesive remover that works great http://site.innovationestore.com/images/image-310.php?id=62466749306 For for a repaint job....a 600 or 800 wet sandpaper to get the residue off without butchering the ABS.
