Mike I appreciate the offer, & the price is EXCELLENT but since my son has just started to ride, picking up a new setup right now would be premature. I'm hoping that within a year he will have enough experience (and be able to handle something bigger than a 250cc) to be able to take road trips with the wife & me. another downside is that the G4 units unfortunately are not compatible with my current TeamSet Pros that I currently have. Thanks anyway Andy BTW I use a 1/2 helmet as well & I didn't use the ear flaps, I just stuck the speakers the the straps right by my ears. The wife is real easy to hear.

Yeah it's kind of vague. That's why I figured I'd post here. There are a lot of users that use the Scalas. I did read somewhere that there is a new unit made by someone else that is suppose to make the scala feel like 2 tin cans & string. I have to find the thread.

I figured I would share the email I received from Cardo regarding this issue. I'm sure this question will come up in the future again. Andy, Thank you for contacting the Cardo Systems Support Center. All scala rider products are their own unique products. A scala rider Solo is not ½ of a TeamSet PRO. A Solo is not an intercom product ans is only meant to connect to a cell phone or GPS for communications with that device. Similarly, a scala rider FM is only meant to do the same as the Solo, but adds a built in FM radio to the unit. The TeamSet PRO is designed to only communicate between the two units that come with the system as a driver to passenger communications system, allong with use of a cell phone or GPS by one or both of the users. It will not communicate via intercom to a user on another motorcycle. The only way you could talk to someone on another motorcycle using your TeamSet on your motorcycle is to pair a cell phone to your headset and then to place a cell phone to cell phone call to the user on the other motorcycle and for them to have some way of safely using the cell phone on their motorcycle. In order for the three of you to have a three way simultaneous communication between the two motorcycles, you would need to have each user using a scala rider G4 or scala rider G9. A Q2 PRO will work from bike to bike, but it will not allow all three of you to talk to each other at the same time; only two out of the three of you could talk at the same time, and you would have to switch back and forth between which two are talking at any moment by pressing a button on the side of the unit, one or two times to switch. If you would like to discuss this further, please call us between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern time, Monday through Friday and any one of us here will be happy to go over the options you have in more detail. Please feel free to contact us if we can assist with any other questions. Best regards, Garth Schafer Customer Service Representative

I bought a Scala Rider Teamset Pro kit for my wife & me to use on trips. I love these & got them new for $130 which was GREAT. Now my son got his MC license & I want to buy him a headset so that we can all communicate when riding together. So which Scala headset link to Teamset Pro Kit? Scala has a many different ones scala rider G9 scala rider G4 scala rider Q2 scala rider FM scala rider SOLO but the manuals don't say anything about linking to other units. Is the scala rider SOLO the same units as the teamset pro?

Front Brake strength
cabreco replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The brakes engage at about 1/2 travel towards the grip & if I really squeeze down hard I can get the handle to about 5/8" from the grip. The "feel" of the brake lever feels right, I'm just use to the front brake being able to pull the load better. The plus to the linked brakes is that I can stop ok if I use only the rear brake, (I tried that test) but I always use both out of force of habit. -

Frank I kind of like the linked brakes so I do plan on leaving them alone, but disconnection the antidive units is on the top of my list. Am I correct in assuming all I need to do is remove the hose extensions from the calipers to the antidive & reattach the line to the calipers using the shorter banjo bolt which are on the antidive lines? Front Brake strength
cabreco replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just wanted to make sure the brakes were not defective. I figured that the weight of this was going to bee a factor. Comparing it to my CB750 was like night & day. Lots of good stuff here THANKS! Squidley,I did bleed & changed the fluid in December when I rebuild the master cyl, but I did have a fork seal leak the did in fact hit that caliper. So for the time being some frugal improvements are change the pads to 1.EBC HH sintered pads 2. stainless lines bongobobny, what I get from you is the anti dives rob braking power? So since I installed progressives up front, disconnecting the anti dives from the system & installing the block off plate would improve braking? If so it it significant? -
I have a question regarding the 1st Gen front brake. My Venture stops fine using bothe the front brake & the linked rear/front pedal but if I try to stop my Venture with JUST the front brake it struggles . I'm not saying stopping from 60 mph but say a 25 mph stop. is this normal? The reason I ask is my CB750 has only 1 front rotor & when I hit that front brake I can easily stop...even if I had no rear brake. My Venture's front pads look ok, as do the rotors. So is this just because of the weight of the Gen 1 that it needs both rotors or do I need new/better pads?

Can somebody scan the pages of the cruise control operation from the owners manual? I have a scan from an 83 but not a Royale. The cruise on my 84 works fine but since I don't have an owners manual for it I don't really know the limitations. I did read here that it won't work over 80mph & I also read it takes a bit to engage (1 to 1.5 mile). Does it work in EVERY gear or just when in 5th? I finally have the bike running great with no smells or issues & the wife & I are making plans for longer road trips. Would be nice to know exactly how this thing should work. Andy help would be appreciated.

The hobby tool just keep the pieces together. As you can see I was dealing with shattered pieces. You can also make tabs if you break & lose some. I use the hobby tool to heat up paper clips or pieces od copper romex wire into the plastic like a spine. Those tabs are stronger than OEM. For $9 it's a great tool & much hotter than a soldering iron. If they are just hairline cracks then there is no need to tack. Using the Dremel to make a V channel is essential since the filler material needs someplace to bond both sides completely. The aqua prep is also a must. A clean surface will hold the weld forever. I picked that up at a Sherwin Williams auto paint supplier. I'm sure all auto body supply shops carry some brand of this. In order to stop a creeping crack you have to drill a small relief hole at the end of the crack. This will stop the crack from continuing. It will also give you some time if you want to wait to do the repairs until after summer without having them get worse.

I picked up the same welder & rebuild most of my plastics with it. I also bought the Hobby Woodburner as well. http://www.harborfreight.com/5-in-1-hobby-woodburner-38593.html Here are a few pix of what I did http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=994 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=996 [ame= ] [/ame] It's a real simple process. just make sure you use the HF white ABS plastic welding rods. Just take your time and be very patient. If you have any questions drop me a note. Andy The attched is a pix are of before the fix (brown seat no trunk) & the finished repair & fully dressed bike.

Brian, Word of advice DO NOT replace the plug with anything other than the OEM plugs. I replaced my 2002 Sport Trac plugs with top of the line Bosch Ir plugs (prices suckers too), my gas mileage & performance dropped significantly. It appear the Ford v6 (especially the 4.0) only like Autolite or Motorcraft. And don't forget to use some antisieze on the threads Andy

Absolutely NONE! Remember this is a water cooled bike The radiator & electric fan take care of the cooling. I covered the openings as I said in my previous post...BEST thing I EVER did! In warm weather the heat off the engine was ridiculous! (ok in winter it's nice, but I don't live in Jersey anymore lol) I looked on Ebay & other places for a while & finding vent covers seems to be as easy as finding the holy grail! That's why I made my own.

Since it's NEW I would drop them a line & ask SLIPSHIELD@AOL.COM

I just looked at the RainX bottle & is does say Do not use on plastics unless approved by manufacturer. Huh I never noticed that. Nonetheless I apply it every 6 months & my windscreen & visor are still crystal clear.
-
I use Rainx on my visor & my windscreen, it's as good as having a wiper. Rain just rolls off. Don't forget a can of fix a flat!

Oh thank GOD I'm not alone! My 17 year old wants to get his MC endorsement as well. He NEVER had much interest even in riding his bicycle too much. He's a wirey kid too (not much for meat on his bones). I really don't like the idea but I ok'd with a few conditions. 1. We start with a smaller cruiser 250 - 500 cc 2. He MUST take the safety course 3. He rides with me ONLY for 1 year 4. He pays his own insurance. (I'll probably bite for the bike) I'm not too concerned about his driving as he is VERY conservative behind the wheel...the exact opposite of the speed demon I was, I'm more concerned about the butt heads on the road & his ability to react to their carelessness. I sympathize with you but you are right, it would be very hypocritical of us to object! Good luck & I hope you keep your sanity~

Well all the plumbing is definitely vented to the roof (which BTW is a very scary place to bedue to the pitch of my roof) After climbing up there and slightly loosing my footing due to the pitch, I decided that's no place for a 50 year old After speaking to a master plumber, he said it's doubtful that there is a clogged vent due to the sinks flowing well & the smell suddenly appearing. The most logical cause is the massive rains & the fact that I am on a sewer easment. He suggested a lime treatment. If that doesn't fix it the, I will call someone in to check it out! (let them climb on the roof) lol

That horror of a thought has crossed my mind. I was hopiing it was just my own paranoid overthinking of what the problem could be, but now that you bring it up....ARRRRRRGH! How did it come loose just sitting there?

No little used, the house has 2 1/2 baths, kithchen sink, dishwasher, & washing machine all used daily with the exception of the washing machine which is used weekly. So there should be no dry P traps. If I had a septic tank, that would be a concern as well but fortunately I'm on city sewer. I'm pretty good & home repair projects but Man I hate Plumbing!
