Currently on my 84 I have a few lights added to the oem setup. I have: 1. the rear light bar which has 8 Baron mini twin running lights 2. a pair of 50 watt driving lights 3. a small amp for my MP3 I have the factory radio turned off. When I drive around with just the amp, the OEM lights & the markers on everything is good. If I turn on the driving lights on the charging drops below 12 volt at 3000 rpm. if I shut them off goes to 13.5. Obviously the light are too much for the charging system. I'm going to replace the bulbs from 2 - 50 watt to something lower. Can somebody tell me what would be the max wattage I should use?

Can't seem to find the specs for the brace bolts eitehr in the owners or the shop manual. I am replacing mine with a SuperBrace (Thanks to Golf&Venture) & I see on various posts 14 - 15 ft Lbs is assumed so I've set mine to that. Just want to make sure it's correct.

I posted a few how to videos using the Harbor freight plastic welder & a Dremel. Very simple to use even to piece 2 broken pieces together. I did all the faring cracks & tab rebuilding on my 84 & it is as strong as new.

I did the same thing, I was lucky enough to find a clone 84 parts bike which had all the bling I needed. I stripped her down, crated the drivetrain & boxed all the parts. Best $600 I ever spent! Oh since you are online, do me a favor. LMK when you send out the Superbrace so I can keep an eye out for it. I will email you when it arrives.

So Brian, Have you given any thought to what to get to replace the 91?

Do you do any plastic welding? If so save the ABS plastic for either tab buildup of fills.

Winter Project discovered.

Thanks Golf&Venture for hooking me up with a used superbrace for my MKI That's one thing off my list, I wish the antidive blockoff plates from your MKII would have fit as well! -
Well it looks like I have found my winter project for my Gen1... a small leak in the right fork seal. Used the "film" method twice but it returns. (I know I shudda replaced them when I installed progressives) I figure while I have it apart, I will disconnect the antidives, replace the front tire, & add a superbrace. How bad is the fork seal replacement on a Gen 1? Also is there a preferred seal to use? I was going OEM dealer but if there is a better one I'm game. Don't want to do this again too soon.

I can't see causing $1mil damage with my bike...AND SURVIVING THE CRASH! I thought I had a high liability with $300K.

Another 1st Gen gas smell
cabreco replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
KIC & battled the dreaded stink for a few months. I had to keep the garage cracked so that the stink wouldn't overpower the garage. My 84 only has 15K miles now but it is 28 years old. I tried a lot of things. Seafoam treatments (as you know) are a must. I cleaned the airbox. Tightend the rubber carb boot clamps. Then when I replaced the fuel filter, I got the bright idea of replacing the fuel lines ALL OF THEM, even though they looked good. From the Petcock to the carbs & every piece in between. All the old lines (cloth braid) I pulled off looked fine but were probably OEM. After I replaced them and the clamps the smell got lighter. It would take a few hours not DAYS for the smell to clear. After a week the stink cleared up altogether. It appeared the pump to carb hose was V E R Y lightly weeping. I guess to took a week for the carb & everything else to dry off. Give it a shot, at best for a few bucks it takes care of it, at worst you replace your filter (I used a Purolator F10024) & lines & don't have to worry about them for a long while. -

Hmmm, maybe I'll keep them on. With my plastic welded panels I feel absolutely no heat. Behind my panels I have attached an under hood heat shield with high temp spray adhesive. When I first got the bike with the open panels...- 23 replies

I NEVER had a bike that actually made my legs burn while riding. My Honda CB750 has the 4 cyl exposed & I NEVER get sweaty. It makes sense that the open panel would cool better while just that little opening would retain heat. Gonna have to try a ride with the side covers off to see~- 23 replies

I would have jumped at the a few months back, it would have been so easy. As it sits now I have plastic welded ABS to my covers so basically they are one complete panel. I recall someone else on here looking for side covers (maybe KIC, not sure) I would definitely post them up in the classified section, you would make a fellow Venture brother real happy!- 23 replies

That's why, MKII have mounting holes behind them. I had to plastic solder or bond my MK1 units- 23 replies

I've seen chrome inserts on some gen1 but finding these things on Ebay proved futile. That's what gave me the idea to make mine.- 23 replies

I had no louvers on my 84, I just couldn't stand the heat on my legs anymore. I closed mine up by plastic welding a piece of ABS & painting it up.- 23 replies

Rick, When it comes to carbs & setups, Muffinman is 2nd to none. Although I have never met the man, my Gen 1 has. The previous owner drove down to see him & he sync'd & set up the carb bank. From what I was told by the previous ower, she was running pretty sad when he brought her down. I got her in December & all I can say is this bike runs like it just came from the dealership! Kudos to Muffinman!

Exactly what I was going to say, Using like plastics in plastic welding is essential for good adherence. Save some.

David every state has different laws. NC like Va allows only for fear for life. Not to protect property or anything else. THIS happened in Florida. Florida law (get this) allows you to shoot in order to stop a Felony...ANY FELONY. So if you wake up in the middle of the night in Florida, & someone is stealing your truck (grand theft auto) EVEN if he is UNARMED, you can unload on him!
