  1. I've noticed that there are some items in the VR Store that are out of stock to be reordered if enough interest. Don was kind enough to scare up a couple of patches for me (which I have proudly put on our jackets) but, I also want Domed decals and a few more patches for our other riding jackets. I'm sure there are others who are interested as well. ESPECIALLY THE NEW MEMBERS! So... I have attached a poll to let Freebird know if there is sufficient interest to reorder more! VentureRider Domed Decals VentureRider Guardian Bells Small VentureRider Patches C'mon guys, I'm sure you've gotten new jackets or helmets. SHOW YOUR Venture Riders PRIDE!
  2. My 84 needed them & she JUST turned 15K. The old girl sat in a lonely garage for YEARS!
  3. When I replaced my slave cylinder, I bled my clutch on my 84 by 1. opening the bleeder (NOT TOUCHING THE CLUTCH HANDLE) and let gravity slowly draw the air bubbles out. (BECAUSE MY SLAVE WAS TOTALLY EMPTY) THEN 2.When the fluid coming out of the bleeder had no bubbles, I closed the bleeder pumped the clutch then while holding the handle down I cracked the bleeder let some air/fluid out THEN closed the bleeder (HOLDING THE CLUTCH IN UNTIL THE BLEEDER WAS CLOSED) Repeat as needed. It's best as a 2 person job. Since your clutch is in you can do step 2 only.
  4. Helen & I will be there! Had a great time the last one. RandyA, hopefully you'll be at the Muffin's annual Deadwood meet & eat. It would be good to meet my future neighbor.
  5. I replaced mine last winter with progressives from Skydoc. His prices are fair, but the best reason is he is there to answer questions & give you guidance should you need it.
  6. last Licensed in 86? At best case the tire is 26 years old. Rubber breaks down with age...DEFINITELY lose the tire!
  7. Granted new pads are better than old worn pads but unless money is tight, I'd splurge the $30 bucks each on the true EBC HH pads. Remember, the Venture is one HEAVY beast! In a panic stop, you will be happy you spent the extra coin.
  8. Ray, I'm in the middle of the same thing right now. Do you fee a "buzzing" sensation in the handlebars as well? In my case it is not the bearing. I did the check by pulling the wheel forward & back then side to side, no movement. When I too off the wheel I looked at the bearing put my finger in it it spun smoothly. I took it to the Yamaha dealer & he confirmed bearing is perfect, the TIRE on the otherhand even though it had plenty of thread was worn unevenly at the edges where the tire sidewall meet the road threads. The "line" per say was cupped (for lack of a better word) with little flat spots. I was going to change my tire anyway since it's 8 years old, but the buzzing & whining on leans got me to do it now. I went with a Kenda Kruz to match the new rear the PO put on last year. I understand the only last 5K mile, so I will replace them both later with Dunlops. So inspect the tire edges, you'll be surprised how little the imperfection is.
  9. Whattayaknow, I took the pads out of my calipers, (since my bike is a unicycle right now waiting to get the rim back with the new tire installed) And she already has EBC HH pad in her already. Even though there is plenty of meat on the old pads I'm going to change them. For some reason , the pads & calipers were filled with gunk. Like the sludge that sit on the oil pan of an old 60's v8 & trans. (gearheads know what I mean) Anyway I cleaned everything up, pushed in the caliper pistons, scrubbed UNDER the front fender & now I'm just waiting for the pads & tire to get done. At least now I will KNOW what the mileage is on these NEW pads
  10. No, I used the $$$ on new EBC HH front brake pads
  11. Jeff, The replacement of the bearing was my thought exactly, especially since the wheel is off. I had the Yamaha dealer tech inspect it & the service manager said it feels like new & I don't need to replace it. Mind you I was having THEM do it. When a dealer turns down a job, especially in this economy, you have to believe them My '84 just turned 15,000 miles on the odometer. She sat for years after the original owner passed away. So although ignored, she has been a garage queen all her life.
  12. Bought the Kenda Kruz to replace the Dunlop which is worn at the edges & whining when I lean. Should have it by Wednesday. Not bad for $70. The PO had replaced the rear with a Kenda so It'll match. So I'll be running a Kenda Challenger in the rear & a Kenda Kruz up front. Until the next set!
  13. Now I understand why my wife wants our new house to be the open floor plan type.
  14. Well the GOOD news is that my bearing is in pristine condition. The dealer says the noise is coming from the front Dunlop 491 (which is 8 years old) The edges are not even, so on turns when I lean I get the whine. Replacing it with a Kenda Kruz, since the PO changed out the rear tire with a Kenda. Can't beat the $70 price. When the Kendas wear I'll replace the set with Dunlops again. Since I didn't need the bearings, I bought a set of EBC - HH brake pads for the old girl.
  15. Margaret, Helen was IMPRESSED with the bathrooms! We may just get her to do an overnight camping trip!
  16. EXCELLENT! Half the price means twice the fun! Thanks guys!
  17. I think I will me replacing my front wheel bearing. (I feel a buzzing in the handlebars & a whirring sound when I lean into turns even thought the bearings are not sloppy) So I have to buy a puller. I know the Tusk bearing remover set would work 8mmm- 31mm but it's $90 and a tool I don't use often SO.... My question is will this Harbor Freight set work as well. It's Standard sizes not metric & since IDK the size of the front bearing I figure I will ask here. http://www.harborfreight.com/blind-hole-bearing-puller-95987.html
  18. A buck 50? Yeah definitely worth a looksee. You should be able to knock down the price. Single wheel is the easiest trailer to pull. because the wheel leans & also pivots. It will ALWAY track directly behind you.
  19. Perhaps you should rephrase that, it just sound bad, Squid!
  20. OH WOW an old '60's Coleman Pack Horse Trailer. IDK how they pull behind a bike but they were a breeze to pull behind an air cooled Beetle! I would assume it would be equally easy to pull with a bike as it will also lean with you~!
  21. EXCELLENT trade! Welcome to the Venture Riders fellow Blonde owner!
  22. If it is here's a write up. Complete with pictures! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66302 As a Venture Newbie when I did mine I can honestly say: Was it hard...No, was it ANNOYING? Yes! But all in all it wasn't bad. The hard part is actually getting the old slave out. (it's a twist & drop thing) Good luck!
  23. Mark this this works awesome. Just follow the video instruction. The pumping of the forks is essential since this this actually unseats the seal & it needs to reseat. After I did the right fork it scared me because I saw more oil than before. But for me it took 10 pumps wipe & repeat 3 times. Worse case is you spend an extra $5 at best (like me) I samed $300 at the dealer or a lot of aggravation in my garage doing it myself.
