Got a FLAT need help!

I thought you shouldn't use sealers in motorcycle tires? Can this be used AFTER the patch plug is installed? -

Good thing it's "off season" or the additional $50 for them to remove it from the bike sounds like a bargain! But it's a good opportunity to learn & replace other things while I'm at it. -

The tire is new, it is a year old with mayby 800 miles on it. I replaced the front at the end of the season with a Kenda just to match it. Had I known I would need to pull off the rear I would have replaced them both with Dunlops. My gen 1 although it only has 15K original miles will eventually be replaced once I move out of Virginia. (I refuse to pay personal property tax do I have historic plates) Once I get to Tennessee I'll be looking to get an Ultra Glide. So the tire replacement was based on only using it for a few years. -
So I have been leaking air in my rear Kenda tire for a few week. At first I found the valve was leaking so I changed the core. No leak there BUT I was still losing air. Today I found it. A small hole DEAD CENTER in the tread. Ok so to STOP the leak I used a regular auto plug (don't yell at me I'm not trusting my life to a $2 plug lol) I have to take it to the Yamaha dealer who will fix it using a PLUGPATCH. To cut the repair cost in half I need to remove the rim myself ( I figure I will use this opportunityu to inspect & change the fluid in the rear) My question is this: 1. Does anybody have a how to write up on removing the rear wheel? 2. Is there a preferred fluid to use back there?

Dale, this will be a BETTER investment than even your helmet. I stopped riding 25 years ago & recently took it up 2 years ago. I took the course basically out of convenience to get my motorcycle endorsement as I had let it lapse. Not really expecting to learn much since I had 9 years riding experience. Boy was I wrong. I know I could have passes the tests without the course, but I learned valuable defensive driver tips & practical accident prevention maneuvers that I was not aware of. It keeps for a more enjoyable & confident ride ESPECIALLY when the wife is on-board!

On local romps I always use my German style 1/2 helmet with goggles. I find it to be comfortable & easy behind the windshield to hear the stereo. On long trip or highway trips I always use a full face modular. My feeling is at highway speeds a fall will take longer to end & I am liable to bounce on my face at a given point.

Together. It's fairly simple, you have to open the band that keeps the 2 pices snug & loosen the bolt in the center that hold the 22 springs together. Be very careful not to strip the threads. Use plenty of WD40 BEFORE you start loosening the bolt. Also make sure you repack the bearings with quality grease. IDK what the manufacturer uses but it looks more like Vaseline than axle grease!

That's a good idea, I was initially going to use mine as a tow behind bike & a tow the bike trailer. But I decided against it. Something to consider. The OEM springs on the trailer are stiff & the trailer will bounce behind the bike. So for behind the bike you should remove the extra spring on each side. & keep the tire PSI to 10. That being said, the trailer will have a reduced load capacity. Think about what you will put in the flatbed. In the carrier box behing the bike you will max at 300LBS. Either way the plywood is not a bad idea especially if you want to use to to haul say mulch & such.

No unfortunately I didn't take a pix of the frame & wood. I Basically cut 2 lengths of the 2x6 and used 4 carriage bolts, nuts & washers (so they bite into the wood) on each board to attached it to the rear & middle cross members by drilling holes in them. If you look at this photo, you will see the wood under the box by the fender I used 2x6 because I didn't want to drill a whole lot of holes in the frame for plywood. The carrier box is mounted using all the OEM hardware but I replaced the bolts with longer carriage bolts due to the thickness of the 2x6 The ONLY issue I ran into is I had to re tap the OEM carrier box knobs to SAE because they were metic & I couldn't find metric carriage bolts at Home Depot.
-
Not at all, I used 2 pieces of pressure treated 2"X6" under the carrier box. It serves 2 purposes 1. to hold the box in place, & 2 to keep the box stiff. A piece os 3/4" plywood would do the same. You may also want to weld a bead at the corners to make sure it remains square.

Definitely A great source for hard to find items! http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9&zenid=cdv2akv4pqd00l9o10e695t0m6

What I did to give me additional length was reposition the center cross brace. The side rails have holes in it so no drilling required there. You will have to redrill a new set of holes on the tongue where it mounts to the front rail. I used the oem drilled tongue holes to bolt the rack. Gave me an additional 12" for the cooler & she pulls great.

I recently finished building one. I attached my car carrier using 2 lengths of 2X6 pressure treated wood. Dont forget to wrap the suspension parts to reduce noise. I used garden hose on the spring bolts & clear tubing on the axle ubolts

This day last year I bought my Gen 1 as a Christmas Present to myself. Today also marks my 1 year anniversary as a Venture Rider. The bike has gone through a lot of changes since I bought her, thanks to the help of members here. Huge transformation from the leaky, dirty, mangy rat I picked up. I want to thank everybody here for the plethora of information, ideas, & assistance. NOW, since today is also my membership renewal date, how do you renew? I don't see a renew membership button. Do you just drop a note to Don? Andy

Final drive oil
cabreco replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Unfortunately, Although my 84 only have just over 15K miles, I never got the took kit. I would appreciate the measurement & possibly a photo of the dipstick so I can reproduce it. I will definitely go synth. Thanks for the help -
I figure since I have changed all the fluids, some more than once (I am replacing the 5wt fork oil with 10wt it feels too hanky) I might as well change the oil in the final drive. SO... What do I use (any preferred brand) How much is in there Is there any write up available Thanks!

Well unless GROSS negligence is proven on the part of the employer, state’s workers’ compensation law provides benefits to employees who are injured in accidents arising out of and in the course of employment. An injury or death of an employee during a robbery is usually considered an accident, but shooting an armed robber is actionable! There's actually a case in Georgia about this. The question at the center of that case is: Was the employee on a break or off the clock when killed? You have to love our legal system.
-
One would think that since: 1 Autozone does not ban concealed carry for cstomers 2 The Employee had punched out for the night 3 He ran to get his gun from his truck He did not violate company policy because TECHNICALLY he was NOT working at the time. He was just a citizen with a concealed carry permit, like any customer or good samaritan in the area.

Gas smell (revisited)
cabreco replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well I filled the tank today & added about 2 oz of Seafoam to the tank. When I got back home I put her on the centerstand. She sticks ALOT less. We may be onto something here!
