  1. I was looking into that too. What filter do you use? Also, does the crossmember get in the way?
  2. How often should I change my oil? This is currently the status of my bike. she has 15,000 original miles. When I bought it Dec 2011 I added seafoam to the original oil that was in it. I ran it for 10 minutes then drained it & filled with oil, changed the filter added seafoam again to the crankcase ran it for about 100 miles & drained it & replaced the filter again. After that she was really clean. I did an oil change/filter again with Rotella T 15w 40 oil. That was last May. Now since the oil change I have put about 2000 miles on her in the last year. She never sits idle I ride her at least a few miles 3 or 4 times a week. I know the manual says annually but then oil technology has change significantly in 30 years. So this being the case, what frequency should I use to change the oil? or should I use mileage? Now if I use Synthetic Rotella would the change interval change?
  3. The springs for the turndown tips on my 84 MK1 are connected to the lower rear light bar. If you don't have a light bar then alvald83's idea of tapping a small stainless screw is the way to go.
  4. Me three. Love these. Much nicer than the stock rubber.
  5. He takes the car when it rains
  6. A Mirco SDHC card like in your cell phone
  7. Brian that looks cool. Definitely keep up posted. I ride with a cam on my bikes winshield & I paid more for just the mount than you just did for the camera. I also like the car start and power off feature.
  8. My 2 cents Bling is nice BUT reliability is better. Bike A needs tires. 8 year old tires no matter how nice they look are due for replacing. (I just bought a set of E3 $430.) Broken plastics - UGH! fixing will may screw up the paint. Dirty bike, says to the way it was cared for. Bike A need battery On paper I'd go with bike b for a few reasons, Asking price is less - offer less as well. p.o. passing away & eager to sell bike seems cleaner maintenance done new battery Tires may be an issue check dates with the savings you can find bling (I did I bought a blinged parts bike for $600) Then again, a test drive may make me go the other way!
  9. I want to thank everyone who posted on this thread. Your comments, suggestions, & ideas will help make planning this trip much easier!
  10. I rarely post any sort of endorsement of products unless someone specifically asks but this is just too good to not share. I have been battling not being able to easily use my smartphone or GPS while wearing riding gloves. They just won't work, ESPECIALLY in the cold. I have found gloves that have a Capacitive finger tip, but they are pricey & I already own a few pair of gloves. Well I found this on Ebay form a seller called hightechnologydeals. Capacitive Stickers for glove when using Touch Screen The seller sells them in packs of 4 & 12 & THEY WORK LIKE A CHARM!!! They are cloth & the adhesive is very good. Seller ships very fast. I ordered them on the 1st they arrived today! Here are a few links if you need to get yourself hooked up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Capacitive-Sticker-for-glove-when-using-Touch-Screen-on-iPhone-iPad-Smartphone-/111036166286?pt=US_Tablet_Styluses&hash=item19da45708e#ht_2100wt_1172 http://www.ebay.com/itm/111036166552?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2100wt_1172 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiBTcogcz8w
  11. What do those of you that haul trailers do with them up there? Do you keep them hooked up or do you unhitch & leave them at the hotel? (chained up?) Are there hotel/motels that accommodate storage?
  12. I still have to see what the groups plans are for the trip. For us it's more the sights than the thrill of the curves. I read that 129 has a 30 mph speed limit. At 1st I thought, how much trouble can you get in, then the wife mentioned to me "you forgot to consider the riders who want to do time trials" I guess someone flying up behind you can ruin your day fast! I'm diggin' all the alternatives routes. Please keep em comning!
  13. Eck, my days of "aggressive" riding are LONG gone. I have nothing to prove & I'm pretty sure an adrenaline rush would give me a stroke IDK what the speed limit is on this road but I assure you for me it will be a nice lesurely ride. The trip is for 4th of July long weekend. Starting that Wednesday. I'm sure it would be a tad hectic. The one thing I've read is NC now bans trucks on the road (Tenn has not) So the NC side looks like there would be less issues. Like I said, I've never been there so IDK what to expect.
  14. My wife's cousin has asked us if we would like to join them & a few friends on a road trip to Dragons Tail. They will be coming down from NYC we are in SE Virginia. Having no knowledge of this place I did a little research & it looks like a lot of fun. I'm sure others here have gone there, what activities are there to do (aside from the road). Would a hotel be better or would a cabin rental be best? Any information that you can share would be great to plan this. We will be taking the '84 there pulling the trailer, so what ever proactive precautions I should take please LMK. I have new tires & New Brakes on her & she only has 15K so I'm pretty confident in being able to take the 10 hour trip there.
  15. Took a trip with the wife today. (she was curious of how the bike rode with the new tires) We took a highway run doing 70mph, then we hit the twisties & even ran over a few RR tracks. The E3 perform flawlessly. Smooth, quiet & comfortable. I can honestly say I have never been happier with the way the bike rides. Thank you all - AGAIN! The wife is happy, & you know the old saying...."Happy wife, happy life!"
  16. Did it myself. Pulled the entire rig from my 1st gen parts bike. I had it in a storage bin for about a year. I did buy a new wiring kit for the lights since my trailer is 2 lights & the bikes have independent turn signals The only change I did was add a swivel ball to the hitch. All things considered, it was a very easy install.
  17. Marriage? Good thing she doesn't read the forum! http://www.whywesuffer.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/WWS-Nagging1.jpg
  18. When I 1st bought my MK1 it had a Dunlop E2 (491) up front and a new Kenda Challenger in the rear. It rode ok, I changed out the Dunlop because I was getting a whirring sound on leans. To match the Kenda Challenger, I bought I Kenda Kruz. The whirring stopped but she always felt harsh & noisy. When I was changing tires (I have a spare set of rims) 1st I took off just the front Kenda, & replaced it win an E3. I took it for a test ride & I could feel the difference IMMEDIATELY! It felt much nicer & smoother. When I swapped out the rear Kenda for the E3 I was BLOWN AWAY. I took it on the highway & it was like riding a cloud. The best analogy I can use is the 1st time you EVER drove in a Lincoln Towncar or a big Mercedes Benz. Yes the E3's cost me 3 times more than the Kendas but IMHO well worth it, ESPECIALLY for long trips hauling my trailer!
  19. Goo Gone should do it without damaging the paint http://pics.drugstore.com/prodimg/81908/220.jpg http://www.uline.com/images/en-US/transparent.gif NOT Goof Off - This will DESTROY the paint! http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/c6/c64c8d77-a8e0-45e1-aad9-970730e7bf92_300.jpg
  20. Today I installed the new E3's that arrived Saturday. (I spent Sunday polishing the rims to a Chrome finish) Installation was fairly straight forward since I have a Harbor Freight M/C jack. I did run into a few frustrating situations like I had to remove the right side light bar to clear the axle bolt, a rusted muffler clamp, and of course the washer fell when I removed the rear wheel (I had to scramble here to make sure it went between the caliper bracket & the swing arm). Took me 4 hours because I took the time to clean & grease EVERYTHING. (oh yeah & I'm old) lol - I also replaced the rear brake pads while I was at it! The most annoying part was inserting the axle bolt back in. I had to work it a bit to get it in. Anyway the tires are on and WHAT A DIFFERENCE These Dunlops make! Even better than my original 491s! I took it for a quick spin, they were quiet & a comfortable ride. The Kendas I just took off her in comparison are junk! The only noise I heard was when I initially took off there was a gravely noise. I soon realized it was little pebbles off the street sticking on the tires being tossed into the front fender. I want to thank EVERYONE who chimed in suggesting the E3s THEY ARE EXCELLENT! BTW Ray, DO IT! you will be very happy!
  21. I understand that is price for the universal healthcare you guys have in Canada. Everything is more expensive up there.
  22. Well yesterday my new Dunlop E3's arrived & were mounted. I wound up getting them at Cycle Gear. Out the door price $430. That covered the tires, mounting & balancing, taxes, enviro fees & a road hazard warranty. I took some time today to polish the rims. I used Flitz & a dremel. It took about an hour but the rims now look like chrome. I think I'll spend some time on the engine covers as well. This attached photo doesn't really show just how shiney they are. I trashed my cell phone & the one I am using stinks. I will upload a new one once my cell phone comes back from warranty repair
  23. While looking up tire info, I keep reading something I never knew that new tires are slippery & you should always ride slower than normal and use abundant caution when first riding on brand new motorcycle tires or you risk slide and/or crash. New tires need to 'heat-cycle' a couple of times before they can begin to offer 100% of available grip. This break-in procedure is typically accomplished after the first 50 turns and 50 miles of use. Using sandpaper on a new tire in an attempt to accomplish break-in process does not work. You learn something new every day!
  24. This is a GREAT little kit. It took a few hours to assemble. Mostly because I was removing the helper springs & wrapping the spring bolts with hose & tubing to reduce noise. I also added the carrier, cooler & gas can holder. Great bang for the buck!
