  1. Personally I would prefer to ride the Dragon's Tail on FIONA!
  2. 1. New Tires 2. Oil Changed 3. Brake fluid changed 4. New Cable Lock purchased 5. New Road toolkit 6. New Tour Bag Luggage bought 7. All accommodations made 8. New Motorcycle Alarm installed ...ALL SET FOR DRAGONS TAIL 4th OF JULY!
  3. Seriously? Crap..I was under the impression that if I didn't arm it that it would stay dormant. That is another reason I had no problem disabling the auto arm. I figure I didn't need her armed in my garage. I should have done an amp draw test before I closed her up. I usually ride both my bikes daily all year round just to avoid carb funk so I shouldn't have a battery issue, but you never know.
  4. Yes there are 3 sensitivity settings (I currently have it on the default high). They are set by pushing a combo of buttons on the key fob. It will take a little trial & error to get it right. I'll use my '81 Honda CB750 bobber as the "tester", to see where the sensitivity tolorances are & where I need to set them.
  5. I installed it behind the air filter box zip tied so it is against the frame & the plastic fairing.
  6. Ok so I didn't do an installation video because this thing is rediculously easy to install. As I said above, I DID NOT install the engine kill switch & the Autostart for safety reasons. It's just a basic alarm that will transmit a signal to the key forb as well as screech VERY LOUD! I attached the diagram The Red goes to directly to the battery Black goes to a good ground The yellow goes to the right directional (dark green wire) The Yellow/ green goes t left directional (chocolate wire) On the directionals I attached it to the front turn signals & ran the wires to the unit. All 4 signals flash. I disabled the auto set because it is not connected to my ignition so I have to manually set it. If you don't disable it installed this way it will arm after 30 second regardlesss if you are riding or parked. (2 buttons on the key fob disables it) So for undr $50 I have an alarm that will ring out, flash light, & alert me on my key fob. The range that I tested was 1/2 block. ( I didn't go any further as that serves my purpose) Its a shark motorcycle audio alarm, but basically all chinese 2 way alarms install the same way
  7. I thought about how & what to wire up & decided on the following: 1. Forget about auto start. (why would I want to leave a running bike unattended) & with a choke that is needed I doubt it would work well 2. Forget the engine diable. What if the arm button is accidently hit while riding? (the last thing I would want is something to go wrong & my engine dies at highway speed) So I am left with a 2 way alarm that I have to arm myself, with a shock sensor, & a movement sensor that flashes lights, has a siren & will notify me via the pager remote. I'll make a write up & maybe a video of the install. I'll call it Budget bike alarm ($45) Wish me luck!
  8. Not only do I have full coverage but I have $5,000 agreed value as a replacement cost. Yes that should be enough but I'm more concerned about the guy who screws with it when I have it parked in a motel parking lot (even though it will be under a cover) or it get backed into by an oblivious motel guest. Normally, I don't concern myself with this, because of the weight of this bike I doubt anyone is going to walk away with it. Locally I can get home. It takes very little to ruin a vacation. I would sleep better knowing that I will get immediately notified on the keyfob if an issue arises rather than "discovering" it the next morning. I'm just one of those people that like to be proactive.
  9. I used to park it on the side stand but along the same thought have been parking it on the centerstand for about 6 months now. Either way same effect & timeline.
  10. See my problem is more concise. For example, I took her out for a 15 mile run & parked it in the garage. It was fine. 30 minutes later I go into the garage it stinks. I open the garage door & vent. I go in there 2 more times (evey 1/2 hour) and vent. Now she's bin in the garage a few hours with no smell and I can leave her there for days without starting her & she will not smell again. Wierd stuff.
  11. So I bought a 2 way alarm for my Gen 1 & I need a little help wiring it up. ...Nevermind, I think I got it
  12. Pete, I was thinking the same thing. I think I will test this theory & take my next few rides WITHOUT the side covers on.
  13. Mike, How long did the stink last? After I come home from a ride & she's good for the 1st 30 minutes. Then is stinks & I have to vent the garage every 15 minute for the next hour or so. After that she's fine.
  14. As I have posted before my Gen 1 stinks of gas for a few hours after I park it. Nothing leaks, I have gone over with a fine tooth comb. QUESTION: Since I closed off the side opening in the plastics by plastic welding an ABS panel over the openings, COULD IT BE POSSIBLE that I am overheating the carbs thus causing them to stink after a ride? I would think not but I figure I would put it out there.
  15. I already have a duffle in the passenger seat...& she's been there for 26 years (boy am I ever so dead if she reads that!) BTW Condor, I also went the trailer route too!
  16. Yeah Space bags are awesome. I actually use them to compress stuff like my rainsuit. Ugh!, with spacebags inside these my wife fit more stuff. I hope she doesn't read this! For me these bags are more "carry in luggage" when checking int hotels & such.
  17. The want us to buy Goldwings!
  18. So, I am planning my trip to Dragons Tail on July 4th so I was figuring on how to pack for the trip using just the Gen 1 trunk & Bag. (Leaving the trailer home) I found these Mechanics tool bags at Harbor Freight for $9.99 that work pretty good. http://www.harborfreight.com/25-pocket-mechanics-tool-bag-94432.html http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_14902.jpg They fit in the Gen1's side bags pretty well & not only will it keep your stuff clean (because face it the inside of these side bags are usually NOT pristine), it makes it easy to bring in w/o having to detach the bags. Better yet for MKII which don't detach. Not sure if they would work for Second Gens. And As Forrest Gump would say: "That's all I have to say about that".
  19. Well we took all of the info posted here and scheduled a trip for the long 4th of July weekend. Rented a nice cabin in Smoky Mountains http://imagesus.homeaway.com/mda01/a9d0a5ba-d833-4b95-ae6b-d64ccd384b91.1.10 and I'm in the process of mapping out riding routes around the area. Thanks everyone for all your input.
  20. Quick question, I'm looking to add rear floorboards to my '84 mk1, will ANY gen 1 floorboards fit 1983 - 1993 or am I limited to only the 1983-1985?
  21. If you're goung to go without I would put a luggage rack from a Sportster back there. It looks naked. I did something like that with my CB750
  22. Yes but will Illinois be a "SHALL ISSUE" meaning they will issue to anyone qualified or a "MAY ISSUE" meaning at the discretion of (or don't hold your breath unless you are well connected or an ex cop) like NJ. As far as what states will they Honor? I suspect NONE but their own like NY & NJ
  23. It's funny though, the older you get the more mellow you become. Here's a story from my youth. 22 years old. I was driving on Staten Island NY on the highway in my Porsche 911 doing 110 in a 55mph at 4 am. I get pulled over by a NYC policecar. (I have a Jersey License) So, he takes my paperwork & goes back to his patrol car. 15 minutes go by & I'm still waiting. I get out of my car walk back to the cruiser & knock on the drivers window (I startled the cop) He rolls down his window & before he could speak I say: " I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NOTICED, BUT I WAS IN A HURRY!" ! - I'm lucky I didn't get shot
