CYA y'all Thursday. I forgot to ask when I had them on phone, and my email confirmation doesn't say.... anyone know how early we can check in at the KOA?

Concur with others... I'm not sure I could that with my 1st gen or not as I didn't have it long enough. Even though I have over 110k miles riding my RSV, not real sure I could do that. I have done plenty of gravel road riding and even riding on grass... but those sharp turns at that speed on wet grass... makes me almost want to give a try. OK... maybe not.. One of the first things I noticed when I went from my 1st gen to 2nd gen was how much more top heavy the 2nd gen seemed. All in all, I find the 2nd gen to be a more comfortable bike, but the 1st gen felt way more nimble and more powerful.

I use both brakes until almost stopped, then switch to front brake for the final stop and put down both feet together. You know you are doing it right when you put your feet down and they plant immediately. If you are doing multiple touches before you stop... you are putting feet down too soon. The key here is being able to balance the bike at a mere crawl with both feet on the boards. I see soooo many riders either stopping or pulling out with their legs dangling. As long as that bike has ANY forward momentum, regardless of how slow, both feet should stay on the board/pegs. The best practice you can do is get in a parking lot and practice how slow you can go without stopping and with feet completely on boards. When I take my foot off of the rear brake and put down my feet down, I am barely moving so chances front brake only causing me issues is minimal. But... that risk is always there so be ready. Anyway, that is what works for me. YMMV

I agree 100% cmcoffey, unless their was a clear deliberate act, I never could understand the cry for harsh justice when it involves a motorcycle rather than a car. We put ourselves out there. Apparently the guy in truck made a mistake. I suspect he will pay for this plenty in civil court. But unless he woke up hell bent on running down a motorcyclist... it doesn't make him a hardened criminal. Years ago my wife pulled out in front of a SUV with her mini-van. She took the worse of that accident. But it could have just as easily been a motorcycle that she pulled in front of. She made a mistake... not a deliberate act of aggression.

East TN would also be a nice area... but like WV, awful close to this past years event. I can see the logic of trying to stay west of the Mississippi if possible. Love the Sturgis suggestion if anyone could do it. I just hope it is somewhere that is not ALL cornfields. After picking up my trailer from Iowa a few days ago... seen enough corn and flat roads to last a lifetime...

I will be selling the Bushtec. I now have a Time-Out tent trailer that loaded weighs about what you are pulling.

Be sure to use Trip Advisor and post a review on that motel. Many people use this and it will get the word out and may force the chain to address the issues.

For many years, I have pulled a Bushtec cargo trailer. It has never had the option for trailer brakes nor have I ever thought I needed them. However, I recently acquired a tent trailer by Time-Out. It is a heavier trailer and trailer brakes are an option I can add. I have read some folks feel having trailer brakes actually makes towing more dangerous with a motorcycle. The reasoning is that if the braking force applied to the two trailer wheels differ.... it will cause the trailer to want to twist to one direction putting sideways force on the tongue. What are your options and experiences with trailer brakes? Second question is how much work would there be to integrate them into a Venture.

I have mushroom plugged nail holes in the tread of several bike tires and ran them until they were worn out. And I would not hesitate to do so again. I see no way for a mushroom plug to 'pop' out. I use a kit similar to the bike master kit in the video above. But I would not do that on a sidewall puncture.

Slight change of plans for us. Don't have to work that weekend after-all, so we can stay three nights. We will arrive Thursday, departing Sunday and they have us on D-19.

That is the same route I can see me taking when the day comes. Sorry for the health issues, but happy to hear you aren't ready to stop enjoying the open road!

+1 Garmin Zumo. I use a Garmin 660 since I had no use for the satellite weather and some other options the pricier model offered. What I like is I loaded my MP3 music to the GPS and it integrated nicely into my Venture AUX. The ZUMO's are very weather proof and are fairly easy to read in all light. No need for gadget condoms or sun shields to make it usable.

If anyone knows someone looking for a used Bushtec trailer, I will likely have one for sale soon. Not ready to list it yet until I get camper trailer in hand. But most likely will have one to sell soon.

I have experience squealing when IC volume is set high. Always has been during or after riding in rain.

I too know the roads of central WV very well and could assist as a second or third road capt if needed..

Lisa and I are booked Wednesday and Thursday night. We can play on Friday as well, but only live a few hours away so will head home late Friday.

I want to thank those who took the time to answer all of Lisa's thousand questions about your tent trailers. It did not take long for her to find what I wanted... We decided getting fully off of the ground was important to us. Set-up time was not a big deal. I'm retired. Got plenty of time. Time out models take longer than some to setup from the videos I watched. So, after years of loading tent and cots into our Bushtec, we will be pick this up from Iowa next week as long as it is as nice as advertised. Hardly used and has a screen room and air conditioner. Thanks again for the education!
