I have installed the BikeMP3 player on my Goldwing, was an easier installation. Merely had to take the seat off, slightly modify the trunk, and route the provided harness to the connector located under the seat. When the ignition is turned off, the power to the MP3 player is turned off. No battery drain nor need for a seperate switch. I, obviously, am not familiar with how the power is supplied to the Venture MP3, but if it is somehow connected to a constant on power supply, couldn't that be modified and connected to a "through the ignition" 12V supply, fused, and then it would be turned off (disconnected) whenever the ignition is off. Seems like the power supply to the accessories would be a likely source, then it would work when the key is in the accessory position. It just doesn't seem proper to have to have a seperate switch to turn it off.

If I remember correctly, some years ago wasn't it Ruger that dropped (or wanted to drop) medical insurance on employees that rode motorcycles? I don't remember the details or the final outcome, I think it was being watched/written about by the AMA.

I participated in the neighborhood halloween parade last evening. Fire truck in front, costumed kids (maybe 50 of 'em) and some parents, then me at the rear with USA flag flowing, four-way-flashers going, and John Phillip Sousa marches in the stereo. When I arrived, I was a bit surprised to see another motorcycle already there. I recognized it right away as one that has been cruising the neighborhood with it's irritating, noisy, tinny sounding, small displacement wannabe, straight pipe exhaust sound. It's a kinda retro chopper style, low slung, and I've never been able to identify it as it cruised by. Seemed to be about 7/8 size of a full size motorcycle. RIDLEY! 750 V-twin, "AUTO GLIDE" transmission. I had never heard of 'em. Built them for a while (Oklahoma City I think), then went out of business, economy problems I guess. Sold everything to another company, VENTURE I think. They are rebuilding and selling certified used ones, no new ones available. They had one priced at over $16,000, 6 month warranty. http://www.ridleymotorcycle.com/ I don't think I'd want to spend $16,000 on something like that. You can get a Venture or RSTD with years of warranty left on it for that kind of money.

First you will have to decide what type of helmet(s) you want to use. As already stated, you and your signifigant other must visit one or more outlets for motorcycle helmets. Hopefully you will find a person knowledgable in fitting and guiding you to the right choices. After deciding which type, color, vented/unvented, etc., make sure to try on many. The proper shape and fit are important. Most intercom suppliers will have different models available for the different styles of helmets and you must specify which style you are using. Some have more than one level of performance (also different levels of $). It sounds as though you may want to get brand new head sets, and they will include installation instructions and warranty. We have chosen the HJC IS33 helmets and the Chatterbox brand intercom sets. The IS33 has built in face shield, sun glasses (a visor thing) and vents. These choices were pretty much middle-of-the-road for cost and quality. These particular helmets run a little small, I wound up with a XXLarge size, whereas with some others a Large fit OK. With most intercom sets you may encounter some wind noise being transmitted through the microphones. Some threads here discuss this problem and some possible remedies. Good luck on your quest for adequate, affordable protection.

If I can be of help in any way please PM me (or use contact info in my profile) even if not requiring use of the the transportation vehicles. I'll do whatever I can to help reduce the burden of dealing with the aftermath . -

From the Indianapolis Star newspaper: Greenfield -- A 54-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured Tuesday morning when his vehicle struck a deer, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department said. Daniel C. Obert, Indianapolis, was driving a 2008 Yamaha Venture east on County Road 300 South, just west of County Road 200 West in Greenfield, about 7:25 a.m. when a deer ran out of a cornfield in front of his motorcycle, causing it to run off the road and into a field, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Department. Obert, who police said was not wearing a helmet, was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The crash, which closed the roadway for about two hours, is still under investigation. The deer was killed in the accident. Star and news service reports I've never met him, hope his recovery is successful and complete. -
When I saw the subject line on the forum I thought about doing some woodworking. Now it looks like something that I know nothing about.

I never can quite understand how some threads wind up with so many posts that are so far-ranging from the original intent.

If it runs and rides as good as it looks, I'd go for it. I had a dark blue '79 standard with the full fairing and saddle bags. Took it on a 2 up trip from Toledo, Ohio to the upper penisula of Michigan over to Wisconsin and down through Illinois, Indiana and back home to Toledo. Moved to southern California in '80, finally traded it for my '84 Venture Royale. Had a problem with 2nd gear similar to the MKI 1st gens. That XS 11 had serious power and speed. If it hadn't had the gear box problem I probably would have ridden it longer. It certainly is a different ride than a RSV or 1st gen. Venture, but it should turn heads (as well as some respectable 1/4 mile times if you so desire). If you get it, enjoy!
