  1. It worked fine behind my '07 RSV and seems to be OK behind the 'Wing too. It's been a while, but I don't remember doing anything special when I switched from incandescent to LED's. The new ones have 10 LED's each. I also have LED's in the Muth mirrors. Your older flasher unit probably flashed very fast because they were designed to sense a burned out bulb and flash quickly to signal the driver about a problem. The LED's have such a low current draw that the flasher "assumed" that a bulb was burned out. I still have regular bulbs on the bike. I suppose it's possible that the regular bulbs on fhe bike keep it working OK and the LED's draw so little current that it has no effect. Really don't know other than this guess.
  2. Me! I rode an '84 VR 'till 2004. I still have the box the saw came in, price sticker still on it. $9.88 at Topps store in south Toledo, Ohio. Solid aluminum housing and gets hotter than, well you know, if it runs for a while. Had to have been somewhere around 1965 to 1973, that's when I lived in Toledo. Brand name is Shop-Craft Model 9150 Type 1. Must be a 1st Gen. eh?
  3. I have never been satisfied with the tail/turn/stop lights on my Harbor Freight trailer. I had changed the bulbs to LED's, but just not enough illumination, especially in the day-time. These were about $16.00 each at Wally-World. A bit of a challenge to mount, but I stuck with the measure twice, cut once rule. Well, I also cut the holes somewhat undersize then shaped them to fit the template I had made. Pretty much labor intensive, but I think the end result was worth the effort. I completed the install with wiring and connectors that I already had. I now have (additional) stronger lighting, located to be much more noticeable. I have some tidying up to do on the wiring, but it's basically completed. Pic 1- rough cut for left light (took a lot of patience and elbow grease to finish) Pic 2- some of the tools and "stuff" I used Pic 3- Hooked up with running lights and left turn signal on
  4. VIAGRA 750??? Wow, I want some of that! (I think) Or maybe it was just too old?
  5. With the 1,700 CC engine in the V-MAX, fuel injection and all, wouldn't you think that they would use that as a basis to build a new touring machine? The possibilities seem endless. V-4, smooth, extremely powerful, no choke lever, no cassette player. Might even win over some 1st genners! (but I loved my '84 VR right up till I traded it in 2004)
  6. I really liked the '68 Charger, but a '69 or '70 would be OK. But with the price they go for now, I guess that one is not in my budget. I had a '68 Barracuda convertible around 1980 to '83. Only car I ever owned that I sold for more than I paid. Oh-h-h-h wait, that's not the kind of charger you posted about is it? Sorry.
  7. Hey, Dano, how you doin'? I'm in Castleton, anything I can do for you? You back to working on those little ReddyKilowatts? Glad you are recovering, biggest thing I ever hit was a German Shepherd, hit him with the right cylinder of a BMW boxer twin R69S back in the 60's. Hoping you are doing good.
  8. Don't know how to fix it. Pic is three scooter chairs (those battery powered things) setting outside a hole-in the-wall tavern. Loses a lot in translation.
  9. WE'RE NOT QUITE READY FOR THIS YET................!!! I stopped at your house the other day and was told you were down at your favorite biker bar with some friends. I wasn't sure where that was, but was told I wouldn't have much trouble finding it. Sure enough, I drove just a couple blocks and there it was... http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2%5f0%5f0%5f1%5f3509026%5fAA1bimIAACWTT5CrBA3kAVxLh5Q&pid=2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1&appid=YahooMailNeo There is nothing like the feeling of the sun on your face and the wind in your hair (?), is there?
  10. Uhh-h-h-h Boyne Falls is not in the U.P. --- It's close, but it's in northern Lower Michigan. Hope that doesn't mess up your plan. Have a good ride, country is beautiful up there. I lived at Houghton Lake for 4 years. It may still be chilly that time of year.
  11. An elderly lady was walking on the golf course on the island of Martha's Vineyard . She slipped and fell. President Obama, who was behind her by chance, helped her to get up promptly. She thanked him and he answered: "It was a pleasure to help you. Don't you recognize me? I am your president. Are you going to vote for me in the next election?" The elderly woman laughed and replied: ''I fell on my butt ... not my head!"
  12. Just hope you get there because there is only one alternative! Lots and lots of miles and smiles. :-)
  13. I am not into chat rooms at all, but I am curious about something. Do you use web cams? If so, seems like a very good reason to stay away. (In some cases anyway)
  14. I use the Purolator Pureone 14612 on my Wing. I believe it's one of the top rated non-OEM oil filters available.
  15. When I had my '84 VR I would remove the trunk and lay my golf bag across the rack. Bag had a hood, I put a bungy cord on the hood to make sure it wouldn't blow off, and bungied the bag onto the luggage rack. Many times travelling up to 35 miles to (hah!) "play golf". Trust me, the riding was a lot more fun and more well performed than my attempts to play golf.
  16. I do not understand why, at 53, you use the moniker "oldgoat". Seems to me it should be something more like "approachingmiddleagegoat". (just turned 75) Mel
  17. All? Well, I'll be 3/4 of a century next Wed. (04-11-2012) so I guess it might be nice to be 73 (again). However, I'm not sure how to reach that goal.
  18. This is what I use in my Gold Wing, DO NOT USE THE AUTOMOTIVE MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC IN YOUR MOTORCYCLE! The auto oil has additives that affect the wet clutch. Advance Auto Parts recently had the Mobil 1 4-T on sale for $7.99/qt. Don't know if it's still on sale. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Racing_4T_10W-40.aspx
  19. Glad your "incident" was not more serious, just keep in mind that his actions were the main contributing factors to this. When I was young and dumb my buddy and I both bought brand new 1970 Honda CB 750's. We were doing things on the street that were insanely stupid. Going into 1971 we bought a third one and took our stupidity to the drag strips, at least there we had only ourselves to blame if something bad occured. You can only do so much to try to make up for someone else's mistakes.
  20. Can anyone tell me how to permanently remove myself from facebook? I've looked and looked, can't figure it out. I did finally unsubscribe from getting all those irritating notifications in my email from whenever someone posted some idiotic comment about how bad their day is going, or their scripture for the day, or how cute their grandchild's bottom is when it's time to change a diaper. Some things are just better kept private! For some people it's a way of life, and that's OK, just not for me.
  21. Well, I really wish I still had 'em, but I left 'em behind when I moved out and took mostly just esentials. Matching gold colored Venture helmets that I got with my '84 Royale. I had traded it off for a '04 V-Star and didn't really think about the collectability (?) of them. I'm sure they got trashed after I was no longer in that household. Of course they were no longer usable as helmets, but would have made a great accessory showing for someone. Sorry I don't have pics. They were unique!
  22. Is there also a young hoot owl or are they all old?

  24. Had my '84 Royale until 2004, never balanced the carbs, had it done in a shop once when carbs needed cleaned/overhauled. HOWEVER--- I did extensive 4 cylinder tuning in the early 70's when drag racing a modified Honda CB 750, as well as having a 2nd one for street riding. Balancining the carbs at idle had absolutely nothing to do with having them balanced when running at partial throttle. The carb actuators were individually adjustable, therefor they could become individually mis-adjusted. The carbs had to be balanced at, say 3,500 RPM's by adjusting the individual actuators until all four were drawing the same amount of vacuum. When they are being balanced at idle, the carb actuators (cables or linkages) are all slack and you are adjusting the idle speed of each carb. At higher speeds (RPM's) each individual carb is reacting to how far it is being opened. If the actuators are not all lifting the same amount (maybe from stretch/wear), then there will be an imbalance. They must be adjusted at speed!
