  1. t hole said it for me. I'm not real happy about the price difference, but I'm more unhappy with their method of response. Mel
  2. Well, here goes. It may get a little bit long, but here are my thoughts. On March 17th I ordered two Scorpion Hat Trick jackets @ $149.99 each. They shipped them on March 22nd, and I got them OK. I was pleased with the price as they were lower than most other sites, and I had looked at the jackets at a local dealer (higher priced) and knew exactlly what I was getting. Last Thursday 04-22 I get an ad from them in my email and they have the same jacket for $114.99, $35 less than I paid, for a total of $70.00 less for the two. So I sent them a polite (I thought) email inquiring about a possible price match. Here is what I sent, and I also added my name, address and phone number: "Subject: Price of Scorpion Hat Trick jackets On 03-22-2010 you shipped my order number 1031756 of two of these jackets. I paid $149.99 each for them. You now have them on sale at $114.99 each. $35 each is a signifigant difference in price. Is there any chance that I can get a price match refund of the $70 more that I paid? If I had only waited a month to order my two jackets I would have gotten them for $114.99 each. Thank you for your consideration of this matter." Yesterday, Tues. 04-27 (5 days later) I got this reply: We do not go more than 7 days for match That's it, that's all they sent. I was not happy with how they responded. It is their choice as to how they establish their price matching policy, but I felt that they were rude and very unprofessional in their response. Following is my reply to their reply: "What kind of response is this? No name, no comment, no thank you for your business. Not even any punctuation. This certainly is not the way to promote your business. This response must be from someone who just doesn't give a damn about this business, only that they get a pay check. I checked as much of your web site as I could to find your written policy for price match against yourself and could not find it anywhere. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to where to find it. Meanwhile, I will post my feelings about your your customer service (and price match policy), and your lack of courtesy, to the motorcycle forums in which I am active. Some of them even list your store as a recommended source to purchase parts and gear, etc. Seems like they must not know the whole story. By the way, I sent my email to you last Thursday, 04-22-2010. Got the response Tuesday, 04-27-2010. Seems like a long time to wait for such a short response." Needless to say, unless I get some kind of positive response from someone in their customer service, managment, or ownership, they will never get another order from me.All this FWIW, and now I feel better. 3. I may be wrong, but I think the '97 RoyalStar is somewhat detuned compared to the RSV's. I'm sure someone here knows for sure. If true, the RSV will give you more than you experienced on the '97 RoyalStar. Keep the revs up and both you and the bike will be happy! Mel
  4. I had a tank slap today, combined with high wind.. quick thinking and a strong guardian angel were the only factors that kept me from becoming a hood ornimate on a volvo tractor trailer. Well, I think I would worry more about what caused the tank slap than worry about whether or not to ride with a companion. It's all about companionship, and if my partner would prefer to not ride with me for whatever reason, there would be a lot less riding. Being together to enjoy life is what it's all about. I'm 73 today and really giving some thought about my capability to handle 1,200 pounds of motorcycle, passenger, rider and cargo. Check the motorcycle for everything you can think of to correct the problem. You must have confidence in your ride or you will be forever questioning the safety of your passenger and yourself. 6. I guess my best deal was this January. Craigslist Indianapolis. Got my 2007 RSV with passing lamps, saddle bag guards, travel trunk rack, chrome radiator grill cover, and a LED tail/brake light bar mounted under the trunk, all installed for $10,800. Had 18,500 miles, warranty until March 2012. Didn't save enough to retire on, but saved about $2,500+/- compared to most of the prices I saw out there. And it's pretty much equipped the way I wanted. Come to think of it this is the only thing I ever bought off of craigslist so it has to be my best deal. Mel:Venture:
  7. I've used Protectall for many years. It is not a product for heavy cleaning but for water spots, dust, etc. it works wonders. You can use it on painted surfaces, leather, plastic, virtually everything. Leaves a clean, smooth finish, brightens black plastic and rubber. It literally "protects all". Mel
  8. "old timer" "old coot" !?!?!?! If you're lucky you may make it to that stage of life There are those of us that you apparently do not approve of that still enjoy riding. Guess that means we should hang up our chaps? I'll be 73 next month, am a charter life member of the AMA and still like to ride. I hope you are able to enjoy our "sport" as long as I have. Mel
  9. I know there were some earlier posts on this subject, but here is my story. I bought a 2007 RSV from Dreyer Honda in Indianapolis. I'm the 2nd owner, it was sold new in Illinois. For those of you who don't know, Dreyer has a Yamaha dealership right next door to the Honda store. I asked the service guys at Dreyer Yamaha to transfer the warranty and they said it was something they would take care of if/when it came in for service, otherwise it was not necessary. The handbook says it should be transferred. I'm thinking "what if I'm in Ohio or Kentucky or some foreign land (Canada?) and need warranty work?". I want to be recognized as the owner and warranty holder. So-o-o I went to Westfield Yamaha, they told me it HAS to be transferred by the original selling dealership. IN ILLINOIS! No ifs, ands, or buts. Just flat refused to have anything to do with it. I emailed the dealer in Illinois, they responded that they would be glad to help, but would have to physically inspect the bike. Well-l-l let me tell ya- I called Yamaha Motors in Katella, CA. The customer service rep. (Leona) there was GREAT! She called Indy Cycle & Ski while keeping me on the line. Before Leona and I finished talking I had a call come in from Indy Cycle & Ski from their business manager James White. I took a ride to their dealership and when I got there I was greeted by James. He provided me with a temporary warranty, told me I would be getting a warranty card from Yamaha, and then took me around and introduced me to the service mgr. and the parts mgr. and showed me around the dealership. Then I spent some time on the showroom floor just browsing. Bear in mind that this was my first ever visit to this dealer. When I need service, tires, parts, whatever, guess where I am going first? All this just to confirm what most of us already know. There are dealers out there that just don't give a damn, but if you are lucky you may find one that gives you old fashioned "we value you as a customer" service. Mel:Venture:

  13. I had Progressive when I changed from a 2004 Vstar 650 to my 2007 RSV earlier this year. Progressive premium went up like a rocket! For those of you who belong to AARP it might be worth it to check on their Foremost motorcycle coverage. Mine was less than half of Progressive, so I upgraded to much better coverage and still paid only a little over half of Progressive's rate. Just my two pennies worth. Mel:Venture:
  14. I'm going to have to buy riding gear for my new passenger and will probably get something new for myself. I have a leather jacket and chaps. The jacket is too heavy for summer. Neither give good rain protection. I'm wondering about your opinions on the differences between leather and some of the fabric garments available concerning protection, comfort, warmth and cooling, weight, etc. Mel:Venture: UPDATE: I have ordered Scorpion Hat Trick jackets from MOTORCYCLE-SUPERSTORE.COM---MSRP $229, I ordered Black/blue on sale @$149 with free shipping. I made my decision after visiting two dealers, trying on different jackets and comparing features, quality, price, etc. These jackets are three layers with the inner two able to be individually removed. 15. Autumn of 2004 I traded my 1984 Venture Royale to Hacker's in Houghton Lake, MI. I think they did the 2nd gear repair and fixed an oil leak issue before they resold it sometime summer of 2005. I'm curious if anyone here may have been the buyer. Since I've joined I have found that some of you will look long and hard to find a particular 1st or 2nd gen. bike. I just thought that if someone here got it, it would be nice to know where it went. Mel:Venture:
  16. In early 1940, Kate Smith, a fiercely patriotic American, and the biggest star on radio, was deeply worried about her country. She asked Irving Berlin if he could give her a song that would reignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith. He said he had a song that he had written in 1917, but never used it. He said she could have it. She sat at the piano & played it and realized how good it was. She called Mr. Berlin and told him that she couldn't take this from him for nothing. So, they agreed that any money that would be made off the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts of America. Thanks to Kate Smith and Irving Berlin, the Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties. This clip is from the movie "You're in the Army Now". You will see a familiar face in this—one that we are all very proud of. Frank Sinatra said that when Kate Smith, whom he considered the greatest singer of his age, first sang this song on the radio, a million guys got 'dust' in their eyes and had to wipe the tears the 'dust' caused. If you can watch and listen without 'dust' getting in your eyes, you have no soul. Sit back and enjoy a Real Star. You may have to copy and past the URL to get it to work. If it does not, let me know, and I will just forward. It is too good to miss. 17. Thanks Carl. I did manage to finally get that fastener out, got the right side cowling off OK, then proceeded to break off the little spear shaped protrusion from the left cowling. I think I'll just leave it off, not glue it back on! Seems to be more trouble than it's worth.
  18. Trying to remove the front cowlings on my 2007 RSV. I want to check air cleaners and get access to the hidden horn. The button head bolts are removed, cowlings flop around, but I can't get them loose from that dastardly (spelling is correct) little fastener thingy in the middle underneath where the two cowlings meet. Makes me want to scream. Help please?!??!! Mel:Venture:
  19. Eck Then why do they test hot (light up my 12V test light) when the key is on and I am not activating the horn button? Some kind of feed-back from the other horn?
  20. I am contemplating changing to different electrical horns and relocating them. In preparation I am checking the wiring for polarity, on/off with the ignition, etc. I am accessing the right side horn. You know, the one that they have aimed right at the exhaust! I expected to find the pink wire hot with the key on, but I find both the pink and brown wires to be hot when the key is on. I have looked at the wiring diagram, guess I just do not understand how the horn button makes these OEM horns work. I expected to be able to ground the after-market horns and connect a lead to the other connector that would become hot when the horn button was activated. OR I would hook up a lead that was hot when the key is on and the other connector would go to the horn button and be grounded when the button is activated. With both leads testing hot with the key on I am lost. I know one or more of you wizards can explain this to me and point me in the right direction. For clarification, I want to install a pair of compact boat horns out front (106 db each). I know most of you prefer the air horn, but this is my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for any help I can get. Mel
