    Hummm? Fairings

I wonder----- do pieces of restored farm equipment get retrofit with fairings??? Just asking.
  2. Can the inner bearing be greased simply by using a grease gun on that zirk (sp?) on the inside of the wheel? (Thereby eliminating the potential damage to the seal)
  3. Have I missed something, or do I not have a clue about how to pack the bearings? This is on a Harbor Freight Tag-Along trailer. Took off the dust cover, removed the cotter pin, removed the castle nut and flat washer. Wiggled the wheel a little bit and the bearing moved towards me. I pulled out the bearing. This is a tapered roller bearing. I packed it full of good Lucas Oil wheel bearing grease. I reinstalled the bearing, flat washer and nut. Adjusted the torque on the nut , installed the cotter pin. I am confused about the posts about seals, etc. Am I not going far enough into the wheel? Is there more than one bearing per wheel? I just want to make sure the bearing is properly greased.

  6. Wa-a-a-y back when, when I was in the Air Force I got travel orders that included an airman named Shirley. I, of course, thought "alright! get to travel with a female". Wrong! Shirley D. Nevel was an airman 3rd class of the male variety. I'm guessing this is not that same Shirley. He'd be around 70 years old now.

  8. Kyle, My coupon was out of an ad flyer called Smartsource, but they (Harbor Freight) show the coupon on this website. harborfreightusa.com/usa/common/displayPage.do?...
  9. Got my Harbor Freight Tag-Along trailer today at their store on E. 86th St. in Indy. Reg. price $399.99, on sale $329.99, 20% off coupon = $263.99 + $18.48 sales tax, total out-the-door $282.47. Had a busy schedule today, so have only done a partial assembly. Looks like some of the comments about cheap latches, etc. are pretty accurate, but I think it will probably work O.K. for me. I'll post again later after it's all together and I get a chance to use it.

    HF Trailer

http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/trailer-trailer-accessories.html?p=2 Anyone using this Tag-Along trailer from Harbor Freight? Have you swapped out the lights for LED, and if so how was it done? Any repainting to match a tow vehicle? The price they have it at now minus the 20% off coupon makes it look like a pretty good deal. Also, any hitch recommendation for 2007 RSV? Trailer has 1 7/8" hitch.

  15. In northwestern Ohio, within the Maumee watershed, the Blanchard River flows into the Auglaize, which flows into the Maumee River, which empties into Lake Erie. Last I checked, Lake Erie is north of Ohio, which means that the water in this watershed flows to the north. I'm sure there are other examples that can be documented. Ain't gravity wonderful?

Finally did get to leave a message on my last call. Still no contact with anyone from that company. Anyone know how to get through to someone there and do you have a name for owner/manager? Thanks,

  19. Article published May 15, 2010 Ottawa Hills policeman convicted of assault in shooting Motorcyclist was hit in back, paralyzed http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=TO&Date=20100515&Category=NEWS02&ArtNo=5150401&Ref=AR&MaxW=200 Thomas White was convicted of felonious assault in the shooting of motorcyclist Michael McCloskey, Jr., in a traffic stop. http://www.toledoblade.com/images/zoom_photo.gif Zoom | Photo Reprints By JENNIFER FEEHAN and CARL RYAN BLADE STAFF WRITERS A jury Friday night found an Ottawa Hills police officer guilty of felonious assault for shooting a motorcyclist in the back during a traffic stop. The Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury reached its decision six hours after beginning deliberations in the case of Thomas White, 27, who was indicted on one count of felonious assault with a firearms specification for the May 23, 2009, shooting of Michael McCloskey, Jr. Officer White, standing next to his attorney, Jerry Phillips, showed no emotion as the verdict was read. Mr. McCloskey, who testified earlier in the week, was not in court when Officer White was found guilty. The case went to the jury on the fifth day of the trial. A part-time police officer and dispatcher in Ottawa Hills, Officer White could be sentenced to 11 years in prison. Judge Gary Cook scheduled sentencing for 9 a.m. June 21. Officer White's supporters exited the courtroom while journalists covering the trial were held back. Mr. Phillips, caught as he stepped into the elevator, waved away questions. Mr. McCloskey, who was 24 at the time, was paralyzed from the waist down when he was shot once and the bullet struck his spine. He and Aaron Snyder were riding their motorcycles on Indian Road when Officer White began following them and ultimately pulled them over at Central Avenue for alleged traffic violations. Lucas County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Lingo described the case as very difficult for him to handle as a former police officer and firearms instructor. "I would say there are no winners. I believe the jury made the right decision," he said. "As I stated during the trial, this was not an indictment of police officers or a department. The officer is not a bad person in that he set out to commit a crime. He used force well in excess of what needed to be used in a situation." Video taken by a dashboard camera about 2:15 a.m. showed Mr. McCloskey pull over his motorcycle and look back at the patrol car. When Mr. McCloskey again turns to look back, he is shot and he and the motorcycle fall over. The officer then appears on the screen and has his gun drawn while the victim is on the ground. After a period, the officer and another man lift the motorcycle off of the victim. Mr. Lingo said the video was the prosecution's strongest evidence. Officer White said on the stand that he believed Mr. McCloskey was reaching for a weapon and that his life was in danger when he fired the single shot. Mr. Lingo told the jury Mr. McCloskey was not fleeing and was not aggressive or threatening on the night in question, that even after he was shot, he politely asked Officer White, "Sir, I don't have a weapon. Will you please lift the bike off me?" "There is no evidence Mike McCloskey appeared angry, that he was agitated, that he did anything to arouse the suspicions of the police officer," Mr. Lingo said. He contended Officer White had no justification for shooting a man for a traffic violation. Mr. Phillips told jurors that it made no difference whether Mr. McCloskey had committed a traffic violation or a criminal violation, or whether he had a weapon. He said it made no difference whether Officer White's gunshot missed him, nicked him, or paralyzed him. "Michael McCloskey was shot because Officer White appropriately felt that either his life or the life of Officer [Christopher] Sargent was in danger at that moment," Mr. Phillips said, referring to another Ottawa Hills officer who responded to the scene. "It's a split-second decision and in his opinion, as a trained police officer, justified," he said. Mr. Phillips repeatedly reminded jurors that they could not consider what happened in the early morning hours of May 23, 2009 with the "20/20 vision of hindsight," but that they had to put themselves in the place of Officer White, considering only what he knew and saw and felt at that moment. Mr. Lingo told the jury Officer White rushed to judgment, moved too quickly, and did not give Mr. McCloskey time to comply with his command after he stopped his motorcycle. Mr. Lingo emphasized to the jury that the charge against Officer White should not be viewed as a blemish on law enforcement in general. "It is in fact a charge that resulted from the acts of a single police officer over a period of five minutes for which he acted alone and, the state feels, he should be held responsible," he said. 21. 2007 RSV, oil dripping onto floor from one or two of the hoses that drop down just forward of the rear tire. Possible oil overfill? Bike was purchased from a Honda dealer with appx 18,500 miles on it, now has another 1,000 since I bought it. They serviced it. Looks like the sight glass is full when checking oil level. You'd think that those Yamaha engineers could devise an easier, more convenient way to check the oil level on these engines. But then we might also expect fuel injection, C D player, on board air compressor, etc. Mel:Venture:
  22. Thought we would be interested to know that there are some who care and work at raising public awareness. Maybe send a note of thanks. From Findlay, Ohio Courrier. Mel:Venture: Keep an eye out for motorcycles http://www.thecourier.com/display/2010/HFCUBB-AutoLoan-414.gif By JORDAN CRAVENS staff writer Diehards aside, motorcyclists have kept their bikes in garages over the winter. But now, they're back on the road, and both bikers and motorists have a responsibility to keep each other safe, according to Ed Schetter, executive director of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education of Ohio. "Many people aren't used to seeing motorcyclists because they have been off the road since October or November," said Schetter, of Fostoria. "We do have a smaller profile than the automobile ... motorists just need to take a little extra time to look for us," he said. May is also Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Last year in Ohio, there were 152 fatal motorcycle crashes, including two in Hancock County, according to Lt. Jerrod Savidge, commander of the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol. In northwestern Ohio, Wood County had two motorcycle fatalities, Seneca, Allen and Henry counties each had one, and Putnam, Hardin and Wyandot counties didn't have any last year, according to the patrol. "(Motorcycles) have just as much of a right to be out there as passenger cars or trucks. It just has to be a mutual respect for safety out there," said Hancock County Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Cortez. Schetter and Cortez said many motorcycle accidents occur because of right of way violations, like vehicles following too closely or failing to yield. "If you have a rear-end accident with an automobile, you are going to damage the car's bumper, but if you run into the rear of a motorcycle, you are going to knock out the bike from underneath the rider," Schetter said. This could lead to severe injuries or even death, he said. It's less risky for car drivers to slam on their brakes compared to a motorcyclist, Cortez said. "If they have to stop suddenly, likely they are going to lay their bike down and cause an accident," he said. Motorcyclists also have a duty to protect themselves and other drivers, Schetter said. "Make sure you are physically ready to ride and the bike equipment is ready to go," he said. Look out for potholes and rough railroad crossings and "be aware that automobile drivers aren't used to seeing us out on the road," he said. Savidge said motorists should anticipate motorcycles swerving around potholes or debris that a car or truck might go through. Allowing for extra space between vehicles will help, he said. Training opportunities are available for motorcyclists. For more information visit: www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/ On the Net: www.abate.com Cravens: 419-427-8422, Send an e-mail to Jordan Cravens

  25. 2007 RSV, I'm the 2nd owner. PO replaced the rear (Dunlop 404) at about 17,000 mi. and I just replaced the front at 18,700 mi. The front had some life yet, but starting on a fairly long jaunt (about 850 miles) and it was almost down to the wear bars. I chose to replace with the original Dunlop 404 since that is what the PO put on the rear. Just curious about tire wear results on similar model and year , being aware that riding style can easily effect tire life. I know that there are a kazillion opinons on tires , but it does give us something to discuss. Mel:Venture:
