  4. When I bought my 2007 RSV (2nd owner) it had the saddlebag guard rails installed. I think the PO had them installed by his dealer. There is no red side reflector on the guard rails, but all of the pics I see of RSV's without the guard rails show a reflector on the chrome bar in front of the saddle bag. This bar is obviously removed to install the guard rails. I wonder why Yamaha thought it was necessary to have a reflector on the original factory machine, but not on their accessory guard rails? Has anyone added a reflector(s) to the guard rail(s), and if so, what/where/how? Just seems like it should be there (for legal requirements?).

  6. If the lights simply do not come on, check the little push-button switch by the 12V outlet. Maybe the light switch is turned off? If they are intermittently on/off, yeh, probably wiring. Maybe a pinched wire. If you give a better description of your problem the gurus here can do a better job of suggesting cures. May be blown fuse, possibly a defective relay, or a loose wire?

  11. I'm the second owner, '07 RSV. Bike came from a dealer with a battery connection for a battery tender. Small polarizied two wire lead connected to pos. and neg. terminals on the battery, sticks out from under the seat. Riding for 45+ years, have never used a tender. I always removed the battery for winter storage, used a 2 amp charger a couple times over the winter months. For what/where should I look for a battery tender? Seems it would be much easier than removing/reinstalling the battery. I've seen a couple on the internet, but they have the alligator clips, not the small plug-in type connector.

  15. Well now I know. Thanks to Freebird, I was looking at the passing lamp factory installation instructions in the tech library to find out how to adjust the aiming of the lamps. Who would have guessed that the adjustment CAN NOT be made from outside the lamps? You have to go inside, make an adjustment, put it back together and check it, then if it's not right, go through it again! Darn poor design, but at least now I know. Well, while I was looking through the instructions I found that there is a switch in the wiring circuit! I'm the 2nd owner, the PO had the lamps installed by his dealer. I thought that the lamps came on with the ignition switch, no other option. That little push button switch down by the 12V outlet is so well hidden I would never have found it without having access to the information in the instruction manual.   16. I don't understand why anyone would want to abuse the transmission by shifting without the clutch. Going directly from one gear to another (constant mesh) is putting a shock and strain on the transmission components that the clutch action is there to relieve. I think that after enough repititions of this abuse there has to be some adverse consequenses (like broken or overly worn parts). After all, you are pushing around 900 (up to ?) pounds and all that direct shift input can't be good! Drag raced motorcycles in my young and dumb years, always used the clutch. Did not want to disintegrate the transmission, maybe have it lock up at 115 MPH. My $.02.
  17. I see you are in Indianapolis. You may want to try Westfield Yamaha. In May this year I needed a new front tire on my '07 RSV. I got a Dunlop 404 size 150/80-16 mounted and balanced and a new 90 degree valve stem for $138.23 out-the-door. I had 'em change the valve stem to get easier access to check/install air in the tire. That's with me removing and reinstalling the wheel. I was in and out in less than an hour, maybe 45 minutes. Here is the price break-down: TIRE $101.50 VALVE STEM 6.99 PARTS SUBTOTAL 108.49 LABOR 20.00 SHOP SUPPLIES 2.00 SALES TAX 7.74 TOTAL $138.23

  19. Looks like '84 Standard, the '84 Royale was the two tone gold. Not '82, Venture came out in '83.

    I rode a '84 Venture Royale until 2004, and it clearly said Royale on the saddle bags. The standard has XVZ1200 there. I'm sure there are many 1st gen riders here with pictures that will prove this.
  21. My Harbor Freight trailer worked fine on a 400 mile trip BUT it lost 3 of the 4 plastic end caps from the 2" square metal frame. Anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you deal with it? The last one popped out onto the driveway while just setting there! I'm having trouble finding replacements, haven't yet contacted HF. I doubt if they can help, these end caps aren't even listed seperately in the parts list. Maybe it was the 90 MPH pass made on some slow moving traffic on state route 9 in northern Indiana?!?!?
  22. I will try to add pics, if I can't get it done you should be able to see my installed horns in my gallery. You may want to take a look there anyway. AFI (Marinco) electric compact twin horns. A marine product, very resistant to adverse weather conditions. Maybe not quite as loud (109 dbA) as Stebel air, but IMO more reliable and from where I mounted 'em they are very effective in projecting the sound forward. I used 20 amp in-line fuse and 30 amp relay. I disconnected the factory horn hidden in the left lower cowling (it was barely audible from there anyway), and kept the stock factory horn on the right side near the exhaust. Results in three horns, two right out front, and MUCH better than stock. They are available from many vendors, here is one of the better ones. The evening we got into Florida we had to drive by the lights of the Honda. Next day had to have a Harley shop replace battery, regulator, generator. Me, I just had fun riding, part of the time with a passenger. Him, after we got home he went out and bought a Moto Guzzi.. Just sayin'.
