  1. What about revolvers??? If the OP doesn't plan on a lot of practice, a wheel gun is much easier to learn/use. And it's a lot easier to police the brass.
  2. dq banana split!!!
  3. Just to let you know, I'm not gun shy. Have fired a few pistols, owned 12 GA Browning and Winchester, Marlin and Mossberg .22's. No big game rifles or (as stated) no recent hand guns. I'm in the process of getting my license to carry here in Indiana, and I'm about to start visiting shops to get a feel for revolver vs semiauto. I understand revolver SA and DA and hammerless. Just curious about the different options on the semiautos. Thanks to all. Now, what about asking what caliber is best? :-) (Or----what oil is best?)
  4. Yeh, but there are those who say electric motorcycles are too quiet and are a safety hazard at crosswalks, etc. because they can't be heard.
  5. Wow, our car won't even be paid off in 22 months.
  6. I know it might be more appropriate on a gun forum, but I don't belong to one. I've not owned a handgun since (I'm guessing) 1960. It was a snub nosed hammerless .38. I'm now considering .380 or 9MM or .357 SIG, or ? semiauto. I have a question about semiauto double action vs single action vs DA/SA guns. I understand that DA only means pull the trigger to both cock it and fire it. I think SA means it's always cocked ready to fire after the safety is released. Question (finally)--- With DA/SA can it carry a round in the chamber, and then have the hammer manually cocked (like a single action revolver) and then fired, and then continue to fire, or does the trigger have to be pulled thereby cocking (Double Action) and firing it and then continuing to fire S/A? Does S/A only on a semiautomatic really mean the hammer is always cocked or can it be carried without a round in the chamber, then manually activate the slide to load and cock it making it ready to fire? I know some of them do not have a hammer showing, not sure why. Maybe a simpler question would be what's the difference between the three in how the first round is fired? And also what about no exposed hammer? Whew!!!
  7. Five day member and over 50 posts. Must not be pouring much conctrete in NY this time of year. Oh, yeh---- and loud pipes make motorcyclists unpopular and bring negative reactions to our beloved mode of transportation.

Plymouth Fury looks more comfortable to me.
  9. On this route after leaving Indianapolis you will have to transition from I-65 to I-74. This is done via a two lane road IN 32. You will have a 17 to 18 mile ride through scenic farm land and the traffic generally moves pretty good. However you will have to watch for cross traffic and slow moving vehicles and you may encounter some semi trucks. We have been through there a few times. One of the crops looks a lot like corn but is actually sorghum. Not much of it grown in the USA, so this could be the chance to see something unusual.
  10. That's a very good question. It should still down shift when you push down on the toe piece, and up shift when you press down with your heel. If it's doing the opposite, it's wrong. Like was said before, a picture of your set-up would help.
  11. It's been a while since I had my 1984 Venture Royale, but I do remember some things about the shifter linkage. (I rode it 'till 2004) Someone has re-assembled the linkage wrong. You need to remove part of it from a splined shaft and reposition it so that it rotates the shaft in the opposite direction. It's an easy mistake to make and easy to fix. In other words, if it is connected with a short linkage piece pointing up, it needs to be moved so that it points down (or vise-versa), thus rotating the shaft the opposite direction as now when actuated. I had a heel/toe shifter on mine, but without the floorboard. I also ALWAYS carried an extra little turn-buckle part (the one used to adjust the height of the shifter), the one with the right hand/left hand threads. I frequently had a problem with that thingy breaking at a thread undercut. The first time it happened I was stuck in 2nd gear, luckily not too far from home. When I ordered a replacement, I ordered two. It broke twice after that but I always had a spare in my tool kit. One of the 1st GEN guys will probably chime in with advice. I don't have one to look at or take a picture, but someone may be able to post up a picture of how it should look. Yours definitely is shifting incorrectly. Oops---looks my slow typing put me behind Dingy. Looks like he's giving good advice.
  12. Did they falsify only your state taxes, or also your federal income tax? If the federal was incorrectly reported, you might want to consider starting there. Advice from a competent attorney is the best way to begin. Web site for the Secretary of State's office might help. I lived in Michigan 2004-2008, used Turbo Tax. As I recall, that program automatically transferred the federal form information onto the state form. I think most preparers start with the federal and then do the state because the state form uses the adjusted gross income from the federal form. Good luck!
  13. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/truck-overturn-motorcycle-video-162740900.html 10KPH my foot! That's a tad over 6MPH and from the video it looks like he's going a lot faster than that.
  14. Collision coverage is for the damage to the vehicle. The under/un is for medical, not property damage or collision. And it always amazes me how many uninsured are out there even when the state requires insurance or no registration/plates issued. How does that happen?
  15. We have a lot of threads questioning/discussing our insurance and how much it costs. I often see the term "full coverage" followed by a dollar figure and sometimes the name of the insurance company. I keep wondering what full coverage means vs. less than full coverage. I'm sure that many of us have different liability limits which naturally has an effect on the cost. $100,000/$300,000 or $250,000/$500,000 or what? I finally got smart enough to drop the uninsured/underinsured coverage. When I questioned them about it, they agreed with me that it is for medical coverage and if you have medical insurance it would be redundant to carry this coverage. Those coverages cost $151 a year. I still consider myself to have full coverage, meaning collision, medical, comprehensive, etc. I'm sure there are different minimum requirements for different states, and for some of us those requirements are not satisfactory. So, I'm just wondering if we are sometimes comparing apples and oranges when stating "full coverage" when the liability limits are not stated.
  16. I just renewed and spent the $12, even though I'm now riding a Gold Wing. I rode a '84 Venture Royale until 2004, still love that style Venture. Went from a '07 RSV to the Wing. This forum is a lot about riding in general, as well as specific information and tech stuff pertaining to the Venture, 1st and/or 2nd generation. Probably the best $12 you can invest in motorcycling.
  17. Slight correction: 1,300 cc's, not 2,300. I pulled a Harbor Freight "Tag-Along" with my 2007 Blue/Black RSV and most of the time could not tell it was there (I'm now riding a Gold Wing). Many others here can comment about back rests and pulling a trailer.

  20. So, you're going to go ahead and get the one that the farmer traded in? Good luck, I hope you have good confidence in that dealer and he has a technician capable of restoring that '07. Lots of dealerships have very little exposure to the RSV.
  21. What spear said. More miles on one of these V-4's does not mean lower value. I would shy away from one that has just sat around that long. A better buy would be one that is running, and the owner or dealer can give you some background on it. That one may have had mice in the air cleaners, wires chewed, stuff in the mufflers, etc. With no battery and with carbs that will for sure need serviced I would absolutely be more comfortable dealing for a running, rideable bike. I bought my '07 in January 2010 from a dealer, it was fully serviced and hooked up to a battery tender, still had some warranty. 25 mile ride home during a warm spell and I smiled all the way. Not wanting to rain on your parade, but maybe you should look elsewhere. Hope you find a good one, this one should be lower $ because of all the unknowns. My :2cents: four cents worth. Yep, they sure are purdy!
  22. I can clearly remember seeing Dot Robinson leading a parade of Motor Maids onto the race track at The Charity Newsies races in Columbus back in the 60's. (Anyone else remember those dare-devil flat-trackers?) Proudly carrying the American Flag, she was dressed in the Motor Maid uniform along with (guessing) about 50 members. Also used to see her occasionally on I-75 heading south (or north) from/to Michigan on her pink Harley Davidson. Just thought it would be fun to remind everyone about some of the history of an activity that we all enjoy. She was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame, and certainly left an impact on the sport. http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/detail.aspx?RacerID=78
  23. Butter dish with a place to put ice to keep it chilled. What do I win?
  24. Quote: 'heavyweight' motorcycle classification. I think my RSTD is plenty heavy... Guess we need another 100 CC's as they consider 1400 the entry level for "heavyweight".
  25. TABLE SAW: A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity. I have to add: Also very efficient remover of finger pad/fingerprint when reaching to stop the launching of said wood projectile. Gives a good excuse for 1) not washing dishes 2) not washing car 3) not washing motorcycle 4) not doing anything that jeopardizes healing for about two months. Of course it also gives a good reason to evaluate the local EMT's and hospital emergency room. However it does hinder the activity of operating a clutch lever on a motorcycle. Just sayin'.
