reference: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=57395 The "new to me" GL1800 is a 2007. The black is the metallc, this thing really sparkles in direct sunlight. The short time that I have spent riding so far has been very revealing. I suppose many of you already know some of this, but here goes. Comparing to my 2007 Venture. Even though it's heavier it feels and handles lighter, lower center of gravity. Smooth strong power all the way through the revs, I like to describe it as almost like a powerful electric motor feeling. Of course electronic fuel injection instead of hand choke and four carburetors. Seat is a little lower, and being inseam challenged, it's much more reassuring when stopped. Lots of other little goodies, like electronically controlled two memory preloads for the rear shock (solo/passenger). Speaking of the rear shock, I don't think you have to be in constant fear of a catastrophic rear shock failure at any moment. I loved both my Ventures, rode a '84 until 2004, had my '07 for over a year, but struggling with it being top heavy and wanting to not put my passenger in jeopardy of crashing to the ground when stopped, I was considering some kind of trike kit. Wth the Wing, I may feel enough in control to actually enjoy riding more than I have recently. This thing has crash bars that supposedly holds it up at about a 45 degree angle if it tips over, keeps it off of anyone on it as well as not crashing into the saddle bags, etc. There's a lot more that could be discussed about all the little gadgets, doo-dads, bells&whistles, etc. but that's just "stuff". The main thing for me is feeling more comfortable, at ease, and hopefully I'll get at least a couple more years of fun, enjoyable riding. (I'll be 74 years young next month). Oh, yeh! Just remembered to add this, no chirp, no whine. Everyone feel free to comment.

I'm not saying why I'm curious, but I have a question about the GL1800 models. GL1800 followed by HPNA or HPN or PM or P or something like that, sometimes with a 8 thrown in for good measure. I'm guessing these things are indicating what equipment they are shipped with from the factory. Can anyone tell me what those suffixes mean? Thanks,

Hey now, don't be bashful! How do you really feel about it?

Something about POP3 mail not set up??? I have to copy and paste the email address when responding to craigslist, and then I have to edit the pasted address in order for it to send properly. I'm not really computer savvy, and have tried to set up POP3, but never "got 'er done".

"Darlene" has started to groan when I first mount her

I think I remember a posting about using a vaccination needle to inject , uhhh, power steering fluid or auto. trans. fluid (?) through the rear shock shrader valve. This was to lube the shaft or whatever inside the shock. I'm sure someone can do a better job than this to explain it. (GROAN) -
Can only shift a gear up or down

Any progress on resolving your problem? I went out and looked at mine, so much of it is hidden behind the exhaust that I don't think it would help to post up pics, but I will if you want. Just can't get a good visual on a lot of it.- 13 replies

Some forwarded emails that I get (jokes, etc.) have a long list of prior recipients, and sometimes names with business titles, email addresses, information that I am surprised to see. Often these are references to business emails, have job titles, company names, all that. I'm curious about how many members actually are using work computers and internet connections for personal reasons, or know of someone doing this. When I was working (retired at 67) I neither had the time nor the inclination to use company equipment for personal activity. The last few years I didn't have access to company computers, but before that had plenty of opportunity. Just seems like I was busy doing my job. Not making accusations, just curious.

Can only shift a gear up or down
Mel replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm far from being an expert, but it sounds like you have installed a linkage arm in the wrong position on a splined shaft. If you are up shifting by pushing down on the toe piece, that is totally the wrong result. You should be down shifting when pushing down on the toe piece. A piece of linkage rotated 180 degrees when reinstalled? Check the tech library for parts manual and proper orientation of the linkage pieces on the shafts.- 13 replies

Quote: I am concerned about power. I appears to me that only 1300 cc's for an almost 900 pound bike is reaching a bit. Keep in mind that they do make 98 horsepower, like to run up in the higher revs, and pull hard enough and quick enough to handle virtually all situations. They run 'way over 90 in 3rd gear, and go plenty fast enough to put the average rider at risk if they really push it. When you want to pass, just click it down 1, maybe 2 gears (depending on your speed) and hang on! I ride two up a lot, often pull a trailer, and have never thought about being underpowered. My

Maybe that would warm things up a bit. Let's face it, we all need a chance to go for a ride or two and shake off these winter doldrums! And I don't mean a ride on a 40 year old tractor.

Boss, I can't help but wonder why you included a description of the previous owner. Maybe just to imply that there is someone older than, uhhh, never mind.

Sometimes when I'm out shoveling, it's still snowing, I'm really struggling, not keeping up with it, over-exerted, getting light headed and dizzy, I lose my bearings also! Well, where did you think this was going?

As long as that article is, for such a simple explanation, I think they should have their license (USA) to write revoked!

Guess I'm the only one it won't let see 'em. Some times a pic will flash, then covered with black page saying unavailable.

How about milk delivered to your front porch in glass bottles with a cardboard cap? O.K., now someone else post another one.

What a good-looking way to demonstrate a patriotic attitude. That is awesome! It may cause some of you to swell up with pride.

Got 19 out of 20! Didn't know #10. I thought OH,MY! was a Keith Jackson trademark. (Who?) I knew the first one (Wonder Bread) before I realized it was multiple choice. Makes me wonder about the signifigance of what I remember. Good or bad?

If Sadicarnot lived in the right climate he would not have to be concerned about landscapers, leaves, etc. When all that stuff is still frozen it doesn't blow around.
