  1. I made my own, sold 'em (for a lot less than $100) to a member here when I swapped for my Wing. They weren't chrome, made them out of aluminum. Used 3/8" aluminum rod for the flag staffs. Bought two of the flags that mount on a car window top edge, threw away the plastic staffs, mounted the flags on my homemade staffs. I also made up two 3/4" pvc pipe lengths with caps that I could slide down over the wrapped flags, protected the flags when I was on a long ride. Made the pipes just the right length to stow them in a saddle bag when I was flying the flags. Wasn't real difficult to make, just had to figure out what would work, experiment a little bit. Kinda like taking a motorcycle trip, it's not the destination as much as the journey.
  2. Uhh-h-h-h, how's that old saying go? Oh yeh, "If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!".
  3. Communicated with Pete at BikeMP3 and he held my hand through teaching me how to correctly load the music from my music library. It only took about 4 sets of emails and replys to educate me. I now have 280+ songs (tracks) on 3 "CD's" and it works great and sounds even better. On another thread I suggested that anyone with a Gen 2 Venture might want to contact him about the possibility of developing something that would connect directly into the RSV 6 disc changer circuit. Unless they already have the changer installed, the MP3 would be the way to go.
  4. I am now riding a 2007 GL1800 after years (and years) of Venture enjoyment. I have just recently installed the BikeMP3 player, it hooks up to the OEM 6 disc changer connector on the Gold Wing, and utilizes the factory handlebar controls and works as if you had the factory 6 disc changer. It uses a SD memory card, you load your own tunes. Up to 9 "CD" entries and up to 99 tracks per "CD". Of course, if you need more than 891 song capacity, you can load another card. So far, I have 283 tunes on the card, sound reproduction is awsome. Maybe someone would want to contact Pete at BikeMP3 and discuss compatability possibility with the RSV disc changer system. He is very willing to help, virtually walked me through the process for loading my card. And that ain't easy to do, I can not understand "Computers For Dummies"! http://www.bikemp3.com/
  5. Use a coarse hand file, get a cold one, and patiently go 'round and 'round with the file, get another cold one. A good eye, a steady hand, shouldn't take too long. Good luck on the steady hand if you keep refilling the cold one (maybe iced tea or lemonade?).
  6. Is this one of those controversial threads that is in jeopardy of being deleted???
  7. Well, I have my BikeMP3 player installed and I have tunes, but what a struggle! Check out my posting on another forum. http://www.goldwingowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7169 When I ordered the MP3 player, I thought I would get the "music populating" software on a CD, didn't read the whole thing, did not understand it was a download. When I could not get the download to work, I gave up on it. I loaded CD's into windows media player and worked with SD cards from there. Player is mounted on left side of travel trunk, 2nd card is in small case . Both attached with velcro.
  8. Straycat needs to be turned over???
  9. I'm not sure about the electronics involved on these bikes, but--- Used to be that when adding a trailer to a car or pick-up, I had to change the flasher to "Heavy Duty". The OEM flasher was designed to handle a specific load and when the load changed (ie: a bulb burned out or trailer lights added) it would flash much faster. This was to alert the driver that something had changed. The problem was solved by replacing the flasher with a Heavy Duty one that always flashed at the same frequency. But you then had to inspect the lights for proper function because you would no longer get an indication that something had changed. May something like this would solve your problem.
  10. --- looks to me like that faithful animal felt sorry for it's master and is merely trying organize that mess. You can tell by the facial expression that it is as proud as can be of it's accomplishment.

  14. This is the one I have. I seem to see some comments that some members don't like them, but for the $ it works fine for me, pulling Harbor Freight TagAlong. See my pics. http://wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/272_trailer_hitches_racks/2152_gl1800_honda_goldwing_vertical_trailer_hitch/?goto=%2Fpgroup_list%2Fgl1800%2F272_goldwing_trailer_hitches_racks%2Fdes%2F
  15. Maybe certain individuals just enjoy spending someone else's money?
  16. Did you have the forks locked? If so, you sometimes have to move the handlebars to take pressure off of the locking mechanism before the key can be moved from the "locked" position to the "off" position.
  17. Boss, Maybe you could once again urge the members to utilize the "Custom User Title" to show what the are riding. We all know how much easier it is to respond to problems/questions if it is known up front for what specific motorcycle they are seeking help/answers.
  18. The coach had put together the perfect team for the Cleveland Browns. The only thing that was missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn't find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win. Then one night while watching CNN he saw a war-zone scene in Afghanistan . In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Afghan soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight into a 15th story window 100 yards away. KABOOM! He threw another hand-grenade 75 yards away, right into a chimney. KA-BLOOEY! Then he threw another at a passing car going 90 mph. BULLS-EYE! "I've got to get this guy!" Coach said to himself. "He has the perfect arm!" So, he brings him to the States and teaches him the great game of football. And the Browns go on to win the Super Bowl. The young Afghan is hailed as the great hero of football, and when the coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants is to call his mother. "Mom," he says into the phone, "I just won the Super Bowl!" "I don't want to talk to you, the old woman says."You are not my son!" "I don't think you understand, Mother," the young man pleads. "I've won the greatest sporting event in the world. I'm here among thousands of my adoring fans." "No! Let me tell you!" his mother retorts. "At this very moment, there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn’t get raped!" The old lady pauses, and then tearfully says, "I will never forgive you for making us move to Cleveland !!”
  19. If these carbs have positive open, positive close, so be it. I was referring to spring returns. There still should be seperate adjustment for idle speed and high speed. Moderators can delete all my stuff if it will help un-confuse the issue. I hereby subtract my plus !!!
  20. In my past experience, there were stop screws to adjust the idle speed on each carb. At this time the throttle cables are slack, doing nothing to control the carburetor. When you twist the throttle this action picks up the cables, and they can (will) become stretched or otherwise individually mis-adjusted, picking one or more at different times. This causes the vacuum readings to be different from one carb to another. You then adjust the individual cables to synchronize (balance) the vacuum reading at high speed. When you return it to idle, your first (idle) adjustment wiil be unaffected by the high speed adjustment. Don't how to otherwise state how it's done.
  21. Like I said, Ive never done a synch on one of these V-4s. What I do know is that for emission control, the EPA may have mandated that the mixture screws be sealed after pre-set at the factory (maybe no adjustment at all?). My heaviest experience was before some of the current restrictions, working on Mikuni and Kehin carbs. I was merely presenting what I feel to be a proper carb balancing procedure, do the idle and high speed both, not just one of them. One of the other guys that are involved with the Maintenance Days, etc. should be able to answer this one. Lots of them have been involved in complete carb rebuilds and have a thorough knowledge of these carbs. Sorry I couldn't help more. Good luck.
  22. I have never done a carb sync on one of these V-4s, BUT in the past I've done lots of other 4 cylinder motorcycle engines. Make sure the engine is completely warmed up. First, sync at idle, adjusting throttle opening on each carb using the adjustment screw(s) so that all four would draw the same vacuum, then adjust the idle mixture screws, and then the idle throttle screws again if the mixture screws changed any of the vacuum readings at idle, making sure the idle speed is correct. THEN I would lock the throttle (or have an assistant hold it) at a steady RPM, about 2,500 to 3,000 and adjust the individual carb cables to balance the vacuum readings at high speed. Two totally seperate adjustments to address two different circumstances on the carburetors. This is the only way I would know how to make it right for both idle and higher speeds. It seems to me that adjusting only one or the other is only doing 1/2 the job. Just my .
  23. A search will bring multiple results. Here's one of many that came up on a search for "motorcycle transport. http://www.idtransport.com/motorcycletransport.htm I still think that "fly north, ride south" is the best way.
