Flyinfool appears to be setting up some type of class action lawsuit over the one question deal. Guess he is trying to get some type of ice cream settlement for him and Big Tom...

figured I'd do it before somebody else did.....

I just received (today) my rare and antique steering nut tool from you and paid via PayPal. Glad things went smooth and I don't have to play the darn thing...

Can you buy tickets via PayPal ?

My "crotch rocket " loving son finally rode the beast yesterday. Said I couldn't post the picture on FaceBook. Didn't say I couldn't post it here..

Congratulations. Now go out and get a 1st Gen so you can really enjoy life.

I just received my progressives in the mail Tuesday from Skydoc_17. Trying to get the nerve up now to start the tear down and address the long list of maintenance and repair items so it can be put back together and ridden. We have been having 75+ degree weather here, so I hate the thought of tearing it apart when everybody is out riding.

Thanks for the valuable insight. Appreciate it.

In following your lead, and still in the infant stages, I have initiated a similar walk. We have a homeless guy in our church. I would say hi to him in the past, but never really talked to him. Sunday while thinking of your story, I walked up to him early on and had a short conversation with him. I then went and got my 4 month old granddaughter and walked over and sat down next to him and "introduced them to each other" He said she was pretty..she said something like "Hmfmfgdromfm". I then returned her to my daughter. As I walked back by I noticed he was crying. I grabbed a few napkins and sat back down next to him and asked if everything was OK. Didn't get an answer, but he wiped the tears away. I sat next to him during the whole service and found out he knows a lot about guitars ( I know nothing !). I walked him out after church and shook his hand telling him I would see him next time. It takes awhile to earn somebody's trust enough to learn "their story". I hope to learn Randy's story and maybe help him get back to family. Thanks for the inspiration. Bill

Woohoo...got my progressive springs in the mail today.. getting closer to launching Operation Dismantle

Okay...WOW...thanks... I was going to do the battery probe and had left that off the list.. it's on it now. Good info on the flushing of the coolant... I will go ahead and take off the fairing because it had been recommended before so I could do the electrical connections and I also left off moving the TCI, so I added that to the list. I am going to go ahead and post the updated list so if somebody else in the future wants to complete this stuff, they will have the info. QUESTIONS: Where is the TCI located if it hasn't been moved already ? How do you "backflush the system ? Just use a hose and turn on the water ? Current List: Installing progressive springs be very careful putting those caps back on and don't cross thread. New fork seals New fork bushings on end of sliders Lubing the steering head bearings (Yamaha tube of grease that contains Molly grease) Checking radiator overflow bottle and related tubing Installing 2 - 12-volt cigarette lighter/power accessories Tightening all 16 valve cover bolts ( adding washers under them) If it is the valve cover gasket leaking then you need to replace that, If it is just leaking around the bolts then you just need to replace the bolt gasket P/N 2GH-1111G-00-00, they are around $3 each. Replace gaskets if needed (skydoc_17) Repair a few Tupperware tabs on the front side panels New radiator coolant since I will be pulling the radiator ( Coolant for aluminum engines) Checking battery water/acid level Battery Probe Move TCI to above air cleaner Fix broken tabs (Methyl Ethyl Ketone -MEK $10/qrt Lowes) Split all the connectors, clean and re-assemble them with a smear of dielectic grease. Lube speedo bushing and cable.

So as I get close to the removal and repair/replacement of the front fork seals, I am having second thoughts about removing the whole fairing and fixing everything around the fairing still being on the bike. I know the fairing does not need to come off, and it would be faster overall to not remove it. So as my list of what I want to do during this endeavor grows, I want to make sure I don’t pass up something that should, or could, be accomplished while the front is apart. I am: Installing progressive springs ( waiting on Mr. Postman) New fork seals Lubing the steering head bearings Checking radiator overflow bottle and related tubing Installing 2 - 12-volt cigarette lighter/power accessories Tightening all 16 valve cover bolts ( adding washers under them) Repair a few Tupperware tabs on the front side panels New radiator coolant since I will be pulling the radiator ( what kind to use ??) Checking battery water/acid level Also, I have heard about some bushings in the front end/forks (?) that might need to be changed when the seals are done. Where are they ? How do I know if they need to be changed/repaired ? Any special tools/issues involved ? SO… any other suggestions as to what I should do while I am completing these other tasks ?? I would like to see/her about locations of 12-volt plug-ins that others have used.

Can't say I've heard of them... the big question is how are they on claims ? That has been the key for me with State Farm. They never gave me any problems with the few claims I've had over the last 26 years, but they are more expensive. I think I'll also check with USAA tomorrow.

Just got home and saw the post on a real screen instead of a phone screen...now I know what you were saying..just a typo on 1 point font... They call them smart phones..but they are only as smart as the eye sight of the old guy typing...

Yea....it was nice with all the bells n whistles, but it was an.850 lb top heavy pig . The Venture is more fun in my opinion

I love the sound and the power of the V-4 compared to my old BMW K1200LT. The Venture does hate to lug...

Thanks for the insight on the GEICO 500 mile deal ...I'll check with them on that when I call them back. Sorry about the mixture of Politics and insurance but the owner has supported a lot of anti American groups like the ACLU. I just don't want my money going to an Anti American, anti capitalist scum bag.

Welcome !! You'll mostly get ice cream suggestions from the 2nd Genners here...you might want to post over in the 2nd Generation Tech section where they will they will be able to tell you how to baby that 2nd Genner. The 1st Genners need and desire to ridden hard and used. The 2nd Genners need ample garage time and rest and relaxation...

Who are you dealing with that gives you those options ? I have State Farm on my KLR650 and had GEICO on my two TW's that I just sold. When I went to cancel the GEICO they quoted me musch better prices on both bikes than State Farm. I am not thrilled with what I have heard about GEICO but I have not had a claim with them. The prices are much lower though. They also gave me many options on "custom designing the policy as to amounts. I haven't made a decision yet. The only company I WILL NOT use is Progressive. If you love your country and want to save it from the Socialist Marxists...Google the owner of Progressive and what he does with the money you pay him through your policies. Here ... I will save you the time: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/peterlewis.asp

Rough day of riding today...almost hit 80 degrees..had to take the liner out of the jacket.Looks like a "cold front" is moving in over the weekend.... Hey Big Tom..how'd your riding go today ???? Did you get your snow blower out of 2nd gear ????
-
Went for a 300 mile ride today with my friend and his blonde 83'. The 89 rode well. Filled my Ipod stick with nothing but Jimmy Buffett. What a great way to start the year ! Love the power when passing or entering the freeway. The bike didn't have any issues, so I am still really pleased with the bike. Had her 2 weeks now and still smilin'

Maybe we were a little too rough on them. I made two New Year resolutions. The first was to be much nicer to 2nd Genners since they are people too. And, the second resolution was to be sure to break the first resolution as soon as possible.
