  1. It was a soft kill and only a 1st Genner ..lol
  2. Wasn't intended for it to go that way . Was surprised at the responses . But I guess thats how you find out where things or people are really at. Wasn't looking for discourse .
  3. Thank you Gary..you are a gentleman and a scholar... That's my story and I'm sticking to it !
  4. Super Cool..I. pretended to write the check, pretended to walk to the mailbox and pretended to take a deduction for my charitable contribution ....this is fun... Thanks for letting me play in all the Reindeer games ....
  5. Obviously not 1st Generations..:stirthepot:.......just saying.......
  6. I do also HIGHLY recommend buying Dingy's steering nut tool . It is quality and really made the nut removal a breeze . Already got one compliment on it from a friend.who saw it sitting on my gas cap.
  7. Just want to clarify for anybody that may read this thread in the future, the mistakes I made so far doing this process . I removed the forks because of issues with the upper triple tree bearings . They were rock solid with dry grease . 10 minutes in Mineral Spirits made them like new. Anyways, either way, on the bike or off the bike, after removing the dust covers from the lower forks, then remove the clip inside the lower fork just above the seal. Then use the lower forks as the slide hammer . IF..the forks are on the bike DO NOT try to use the upper forks as the slide hammer by sliding them upwards... or do it by yourself. Get a friend to help. Have your friend ,wife ,neighbor or well trained pet to hold the forks up in the air shoulder height and then you use the lower forks to slam down to dislodge the seals . Now...be prepared that small parts may go flying .There are 2 silver bushing like pieces , 6 small washers and two other metal cup like saucers . Do not slam the forks upward in any way. Those pieces described above will be damaged. Easy..easy slide up...full force sliding down . After 90. Minutes of sliding the crap out of it , damaging the small pieces...it only took one attempt with my friend holding it up and me sliding the lowers down. Now...if I can only get it all back together.....
  8. I am now working out of town again so regular mail is fine. Fork wrench ? Are you talking about the triple tree nut wrench ? I bought one from....(you?) Off the forum. Is there a diffrent wrench ? Thanks Bill
  9. Can I pretend to help too? I don't have a clue to what you all are saying but I don't want to feel left out.
  10. I would recommend ( highly) that you pull the top bearing and re-grease it. I just pulled mine off and the bearing was rock solid from dried grease. 10 minutes in mineral spirits cleaned it up and it spun like new. When ( and if) I ever get mine back together I expect a newer, better feeling ride. The bottom bearing was fine. Bill
  11. Not slow just cautious.. you said you had them...never said I could have them... SOOooo... I was testing the water... PM sent... Thanks
  12. Okay ..I went over to my Ducati riding friend who has a restoration shop. He sat me down with a sheet of glass ,600 sandpaper and a micro file. Had me lightly file the burrs of the edges and flat sand the top and bottom flat surface. They came out pretty good. They are the two silver pieces below . I still need to replace the two wavy washers . Sorry guys... I originally posted this from my phone and it wouldn't let me post the picture:
  13. OMGTSFC..... That's kids speak for Oh My Gosh..Stealership's Freakin Crazy !!!! Went to get a couple if new oil stops that got a little chingered up during the fork seperation. They wanted $53.00 EACH.... They also wanted 9.00 for the little round spring washer. Is there a better source ????? Can I lightly sand the edge of the stop and reinstall ?
  14. Glad YD is taking the heat ....the help here is incredible...just today I posted for help and instead of a post ,I got a phone call explaining my oversight . Helped me finish that portion of the work.
  15. Bummer.....looks like unless you are on your 1st Gen you ain't gonna survive the end of the world ......
  16. I think the best commercial was the Chevy commercial..poor Dave drove a Ford . Then the Doritos dog burying the cat ...gonna train my Rot to bury cats ....the Geico pig was good too .
  17. Ok...got them apart. My friend with the 83 Venture stopped by and found me giving up. I was trying to slide them up towards me. He suggested that he hold the top part of the forks and I slide the bottom tubes down as the slide hammer... worked first time. Found one of the little washer/bushing things broken and the oil stops pretty dinged up...probably from my original attempts. SO...... I will order new parts on Monday and start working on other repairs and stuff until they come in. Thanks guys for helping me on this. I'm sure there will be more questions when the rebuilding time comes.
  18. What is the oil lock and how do I know if it is damaged ? Still haven't got them apart..but the area around the seal edge was kinda corroded, so I am letting some WD-40 work it's magic before I get physical with it again. Thanks all for the constant help... it's going slow, but going. Special thanks for the phone call Rocket.. that got me to the next step.....( of frustration)
  19. I seem to be getting nowhere separating the upper and lower... am I missing something ? Can/will I damage something using the upper as a slide hammer? HELP....I've fallen and I can't get up.....
  20. I chose to pull the whole front end and check the bearing as mine was very tight when I bought it. Almost laid it over on the test ride since I wasn't expecting it not to respond. Anyways, the top bearings were hard as a rock. Wouldn't spin, dried grease packed in them. 10 minutes in mineral spirits, and they were like new. Tight and spin nicely. New grease ought to round them out. the bottom had grease and were spinning when they were pulled. I think the bike will handle totally different when ( and if ) I get it back together..
  21. Thanks guys... I got the two 10mm bolts out. Used a piece of 1/2 inch PVC, a 2-inch 5/8 bolt with a nut screwed on all the way to the top and some epoxy. put epoxy on the bolt, screwed it into the PVC, lightly tightened the nut to the PVC and let her dry. Also glued a 1/2 PVC T onto the other end. The 10mm's came out like a charm. Now I'm trying to actually separate the upper and lowers.... that's not going so easy...
  22. 1st Gens only get caught if they want to get caught. Thats what we use the 3rd and 4th carburetors for ...anything over 100 mph
  23. Since I sit in a vehicle 10 - 12 hours a day, I have blown up every version of Angry Birds...passes the time away and builds your frustration level to the hilt. I just discovered Electrodroid which is cool if you understand the electronics world. Started using IHeart Radio so I can listened to my local talk radio channel and located the type of radio I want when I am out of town. Also My Tracks follows your driving and route but doesn't have a way to download or have anybody see where you are at. The coolest is PDANet. This allows you to use your phone as a wireless connection without extra charges to your phone ( check your specific plan for time usage etc) TeleNav GPS is a good GPS app. And check into Where's my Droid in case you lose your phone.
  24. Hey Snaggletooth, Could you explain a little more about the PVC piece on how it works and where exactly you beveled the lip, ground the hex head etc. I am having a hard time grasping that tool and it's use... thanks oh yea... and maybe post another picture or two of that tool.
