Hey...who invited him to our party ?????
-
I just rode my 89 after installing Progressives and repacking the top ( and bottom) steering bearings. The top were totally dry and rock solid. The bottoms had a little grease still in them. I almost didn't buy the bike because of the way the steering felt. Last night' short check out ride seemed a lot different, especially in the steering and the total lack of front end dive. Can't wait to get out in the open with it. Went through a similar issue with my KLR650. Had a death wobble at highway speeds. Turned out that a combination of the ( too hard) pre-load set up on the rear shock, new tires and tire pressure all combined to throw off the rake of the front end. Unfortunately I had done too many things maintenance wise to be able to pin point which one exactly had the most impact. After many different adjustments and combos, the pre-load was the most serious adjustment. I had my 89 on the freeway twice before my tear down and work just completed. It was still a great cruiser even with the needed repairs....Can't wait to try it out with teh repairs completed.

Hang in there. Hope you can resolve your situation. The therapy is the goal. When I had my shoulder replacement I gave it a lot, but not my all. Wish I did...there's that small time frame of really working through it, then keeping it up. Good Luck.

I read the story behind the so-called founder, head scum, on how he became what they have become. He is a child abuser and real dirtbag that ripped people off and sent all his kids to law school so now they sue everybody over frivolous stuff and settlements. If yo Google them you can read the story from one of his sons that broke away. There is a limit to "free speech" You can't yell fire in a theater. You shouldn't be able to do what these people do to our fallen heroes. I understand the slippery slope of preventing "speech". I don't think what they do is "speech" but harassment and the intentional infliction of mental anguish.

I also have a KLR650 with my Venture. It is a nice around town and back roads bike. If they let Goldwingers hang around here (cheap shot at SilvrT) ...we sure welcome a FJR....

Cold weather sucks...we are only going to hit a high of 72 with clear skies. Guess I'll have to postpone the fire in the fire place and do something like ...hmm... go out and ride....

The other side of the scam is when you are selling an item and they want to pay with a cashiers check or money order. Either one is a fraud even if they look good. I had a friend selling ocnstruction equipment and he was hammered with the I'll send you a cashiers check and you work with my shipper routine. If they insist on paying with a cashier's check, meet them at the bank and verify it is good. Then cash it right there.

Thanks for the link. I had not seen that article in my search.

Front Fork Separation..
KIC replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You know..I just finished putting the springs all together, the fork is installed and tightened up. Was going to install the front tire, but decided to wait until tomorrow so I can clean and polish a few pieces before it all goes together. Feeling pretty dang good about the progress... AND THEN YOU GO and tell me that there is a difference in the seal washers that could affect the bushing coming up.... ..... I have no freakin idea which way I put those puppies in.... Life sucks and then you die...... ugh ! -
I say scam too. The pictures are of a brand new one. The price is too low and the shipping would eat a good portion of the price. If it's too good to be true..it probably is.....

A friend had a Hyosung gt650r donated to his non-profit organization and he was aking me about selling the bike. I had never heard of the Brand. I have been reading about them but wondering if anybody had any personal experience with this brand of bike including parts accessibility etc.

Front Fork Separation..
KIC replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
:bowdown:My apologies o-mighty experienced one. I have a set of the 3 washers if you want them. I got some from Dingy and had only damaged one wavy washer so there are 5 good ones. If you want them I can "pay them forward" to you. I know our Stealership wanted almost $10.00 per washer for them. So.. my question still stands... the top of the progressives are sitting right at the bottom of the cap threads. the PVC spacer is 3/4-inch. The cup with o-ring is 3/4 inchish which brings it to a little over 1 1/2 inches with the washer thickness.. It just seems real difficult to push down and screw the cap in without stripping the theads. Let me know on the washers.. Bill -
Front Fork Separation..

That's what I am thinking, but the cup has the o-ring on it and I presume that is there for a reason. I can not find any pictures or info on exactly the line up of parts. So close and yet ( again) so far... Good luck on your rebuild. if it's your first time an you want to discuss it, call me...I can tell you all the things I did wrong so you can do them correctly -
Yepper.....flying right past those slower 2nd Gens and Goldwing wannabees...right past...

Not me ... I am always dead serious.... I was thinking of Yammer Dan..... It's all good and fun until somebody gets a turn signal lens busted....

Cool tool. My forks are on the bike so that wouldn't work for me now. I gotta figure out how to get it together while on the bike. -
Unless of course someone is just clowning around.....

Front Fork Separation..

Sooo... I got the fluid level matched,( no leaks yet ) put in the Progressives and wow.. are they high up in the tubes. They stop right at the lower cap threads. I have the PVC cut to 3/4's which i think is right for me. BUT..... there is always a BUT.... The next 3 pieces don't seem to want to fit in and be able to screw in the fork caps. I do not want to strip the cap threads so I am asking... Is this the right configuration that goes on top of the springs ? If so, any tips on how to compress and screw the tops on without stripping them ? The PVC isn't supposed to be inside the part with the seal that goes under the screw cap is it ? So close...and yet so far..... -
Thanks for the link..that is pretty cool.

Is this when we get to talk politics and gun ownership ? I use Rotella 15 40 to oil my guns, rubbing them down with the rubber from a Metzeler rear tire that was riden with full sidewall air pressure. Now if a certain group of politicians didn't keep us from drilling for oil, I could afford to buy better tires ( which ones should I buy ?) and try all different oils ( which ones are better than the others ?) and shoot my gun all day long. Just trying to keep the entertainment flowing...

The term that sends fear into a man's heart... Bobbittized..

You are SO right....why have we left you on the sidelines feeling so left out for so long..... So... HERE'S YOUR SIGN..... oh crap ...did this just turn into a gun thread....

Where are all of the threads on engine oil?
KIC replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Great link..thanks.. Learned more about oil in 30 minutes of reading than I knew after a zillion oil changes.. :happy65: -
So ..I'm guessing that without a lot of "customization" that stripping the tupperware off of a 1st Gen doesn't make for a good looking rider.
