  1. I used the Progressives from Skydoc_17, with a 3/4-inch preload and 15wt oil. Haven't had enough time to ride it to play with the air settings. Almost seems like it doesn't need air. Definitely makes a BIG difference with the Progressives tough. Also, the 3/4 inch is based on 190lbs and 6'1". I also went with the 5 1/2" inch from top with forks compressed measurement, because the 409cc oil measurement left it way low, like 8+ inches from top.
  2. A sawzall and a big sledge hammer can make anything possible !
  3. Does that mean to pull them and literally soak them in SeaFoam or drain and fill them with SeaFoam ? Details my man...details...
  4. So Boys and Girls... I was minding my own business today when I drove out of town with my bike trailer and out of the blue the opportunity of a life time to buy an 87 blonde came up. I couldn't resist and pass up this opportunity that must be destiny... Okay... my wife didn't buy that story either, but it's my story and I'm sticking to it ! Picked up the 87. It needs the carbs done since it was parked inside an airplane hanger for 2 years with fuel. Also needs the front seals replaced but came with new Yamaha seals and dust covers. Two new tires, the front not even mounted yet. Has a lot of rear light bars, the back rest, a set of intercom pieced for a helmet, a bike cover, new plugs installed, the valve cover gaskets just done, trailer hitch, and a new extra oil filter and a brand new windshield. Negatives are the carbs, the front seals, a tear in the front seat portion, gotta mount the new front tire, small crack/damage area on front left fairing, clear coat peeling off of top of rear trunk, and clutch lever seems to have lost it's bleed although it doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere.
  5. Well.... I picked up the blonde today. Definitely needs new front seals..luckily this one came with brand new Yamaha seals and dust caps. Interesting bike....needs a little TLC in some areas but overall a well kept bike. So... the adventure starts all over again.... no wait....
  6. I'll do a for sure at that price.
  7. Thanks. No worker's comp claims from having to read all that stuff though ! I like this bike more than the BMW K1200LT that I had. Okay.. i miss a few of the bells and whistles the Beemer had, but this bike is much better around town. I am leaving in 10 minutes to go and possibly buy an 87 blonde. I hope it is everything the pictures and the guy says it is.
  8. :rotf:Ok you caught me .. I'm a closet 2nd Genner... I corrected the TYPO in the original post..
  9. Thanks. We'll see how this deal on the 87 goes. leaving in an hour to go see/get the puppy. Hopefully the next time I do the forks on this one which I believe will the 432nd time I would be taking a 2nd 1st Gen's forks apart in the last 2 months, may go smoother. We will see. More entertainment to come...same time same channel...
  10. First of all my first ride on a Venture was my friend's 2001 2nd Gen that he left with me for a week when he was out of town. On my first ride with my local group that included all types of bikes including Dave's 2nd Gen ( we had a stroke of compassion and let him "tag" along) I attached a picture below as proof of what I say. This ride included a dead stop through 4th gear side by side little run. Even Dave said he was surprised ( as I was ) at the power and and speed of my bike. Second of all this is all in good fun. Some call it clowning around. Some call it joking. I guess at least one doesn't. Could that be what psychologists call an inferiority complex ?:think: Now I have to ask myself why I let you draw me into this with these kinds of comments... P.S - I always joke with my friend and his wife about the bikes,,, here was his CHRISTmas present: ( I included free installation)
  11. Which is why you should never ..ever..get a 2nd Gen Angel ...they just can't keep up !
  12. There you go.... as real as the Easter Bunny !
  13. Only got a couple of miles because I was supposed to go out of town to pick up a blonde 87. It was postponed until tomorrow morning. If I buy this one I have to sign up for Ventureholics Anonymous. I can't become like somebody who has like 7 of them... my EXISTING garage isn't big enough for any more.... and there is no room to add on... HI...my name is KIC and I'm a Ventureholic......

  15. Well... It is DONE and put back together !!!! I got to ride it today for 6 or so miles. The front end is so nice!!! I Purposely hit speed bumps and tried to dive the front forks.. it just all felt nice ! The progressives are great ! ( Thanks Skydoc_17) The steering is SO… SO… SO much nicer having cleaned and greased the steering head bearings. Turning is a breeze and it feels more comfortable. Also completed the battery by-pass and it is nice not looking at the flashing light and the battery symbol. Did some ABS welding on the fairing while it was apart, made and welded my first replacement tab. Installed washers on the 16-head bolts. Tightened the (added a washer to the) speedo/gauge console bolts ( no more rattle). New plugs have got to be a good thing since it seems to be running very smooth. Found a hide-a-way key, so I now have 2 keys. Don't forget the quarter I found behind the front right spark plug. ( still haven’t figured that one out) AND , most of all...got the experience to install the seals on any other 1st Gen. AND..since I am driving out of town tomorrow morning to (most likely) buy a blonde 87 1st Gen that needs front seals... I won't be so intimidated and hopefully won't make the same 967 mistakes I made the first time. A special thanks to those who helped me, Dingy for the replacement washers, SkyDoc_17 for the information, and all the others that offered so much support and the phone calls from Rocket in an attempt to keep me sane.

  17. I have an 89 and not sure what you are talking about. Could you post a picture of it so I can look at mine and understand what the info in this thread is about ? Thanks... ( at least to me )
  18. As careful as I was with plenty of warnings here, I found 2 little nicks on my tubes. I used a very fine sandpaper and a fine steel wool to get rid of the nicks. I also used scotch tape over the grooves on the forks with a little fork oil lightly spread in the lip and on the forks to slide that puppy right over. Good luck. Glad mine is finally back together.
  19. Yes, at least adding to what is going ot drain out. Once you remove the anti-dive's there are 2 holes that will let the oil flow free..free like the wind... ( don't ask how I know...)
  20. Looked a lot like a 2nd Gen when it give's out trying to keep up with a first Gen.
  21. I just completely disassembled my speedo and cleaned and greased the bearing, but if the price is right it might be cool to have one... so put me at a "maybe" depending on the $$$
  22. it will be interesting to see how the track holds up. That fire had to affect the asphalt. It looked like all the fines were melted/burned up from the top layer.. will be interesting to see if their "Bondo" job holds up.
  23. Montoya is already the most hated driver...this won't help his rep... obvously he can't handle a 1st Gen racecar.. so they will probably make him drive a slower 2nd gen car... ( sorry...couldn't help myself...)
  24. Twins from a different mother...
  25. They are using boxes of powdered Tide to clean up the mess. How's that for free advertising...
