50mph Crosswinds. How do you ride? fast? slow? not at all
KIC replied to deepforkriver's topic in Watering Hole
My first experience with an unexpected cross wind was riding from Yorktown VA to Washington DC on a Honda CB360T in 1977. While admiring the fall colors, I crossed a high bridge over a big chasm. I was in the "fast lane" and was hit so violently and unexpectedly I was moved from my lane to the right lane in a heartbeat. Luckily there weren't any vehicles alongside me. Wasn't even time to react. Just "boom" was over there..now over here. Would have love to see what that looked like from behind. A recent experience was a couple of years ago while returning from Silver City NM with some friends. I was riding a Vulcan 1600 and we all were leaning sideways into the severe crosswind just getting beat up and hanging on for our lives. Along came some guy on a big new Goldwing, blasted by us, sitting straight up, one hand on the handle bars while he used his left hand to smoke a big stogie. -
Just filled up the 89 and was thinking about how much other places were charging. Tucson Arizona Paid; $3.659 ( okay $3.66) 87 Octane 126 mi - 3.7 gal = 34mpg It appears to me that if I use a heavy dose of Seafoam my mileage drops. This tank will not have any additives.

Concrete poured will require 500 more posts, 2 more 1st Gens and a half gallon of ice cream.
-
Obviously you haven't read to many threads... you do realize that the faster 1st Gens will only be nice to you for 24 hours then you become fair game... Welcome to the forum...

I'm in...money sent. Get well soon Dan.

Good thing I missed the "crash". I probably would have panicked and sold both Ventures... Speaking of missing sites.. Does anybody have that "National Craigslist link ? I can't find the post with it and I guess I didn't bookmark it...

He's paid me two-fold with advice and information. You will really enjoy the progressives. I am still in awe with the difference I feel. Good luck and enjoy !

Good luck and ride safe. I bought mine about a week before you got yours...I couldn't of done it either without the help and generosity of the guys ( and gals) on this site.

Now you did it ! You had the opportunity to run, and you didn't. You are now a Venture Zombie...your 2nd one is just around the corner....

Thought this thread was about a 1st Gen blowing by a 2nd Gen..but found it interesting anyways .

What do the items represent ? Are they Venture related items ? Maybe a picture of the 3 item package would help out.. Or in other words:

Is that why I had to go back to my Celebrex ? My back has been killing me ( really!) and I blamed it on the hot water heater I had to replace at my other house. Now I find out it's all your fault !

I stay at Comfort Inns too whenever I can. Their breakfasts can't be beat for the price (free) I already have 20 nights. I was just told I will be on travel for 4 weeks from mid March to Mid April... that out to give me the higher "status" . I could probably get the highest status now if I told them I had a 1st Gen...

Good point ! -
Hey , but I will still allow you to be my friend and post in my threads Thanks. Got a surprise today when my 23 year old crotch rocket loving son said he wanted to ride the blonde... he liked all the lights, thought it looked cool and he would ride it as long as he could put "louder...cooler pipes on it.... now to find that thread about pipes.....

Make sure you get a quality tender that shuts off when it reaches peak charge. I got one that didn't shut off totally and made a dual pig tail to keep my 2 TW200's charged. All of a sudden I am constantly filling them with water and the new batteries lasted less than a year. Same with my KLR560. I don't keep any of the bikes on one all the time now, I just plug one in if it has sat for a while and then unplug it after a day or so.

I am presuming that it has been tested and works in the manner intended ? In other words, I'm guessing that you screw that puppy on the back of the speedo and pump grease into the bushing/little gear thing with out having to take the whole speedo apart ?

Front Fork Separation..
KIC replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks, It does come in handy. Probably loan it out more than I use the trailer, but when you need it, you need it. Those heavy pigs are definitely a challenge to load with only 2 people. I can load my KLR650 by my self.. the Ventures are a different story -
I used the Progressives from Skydoc_17, with a 3/4-inch preload and 15wt oil. Haven't had enough time to ride it to play with the air settings. Almost seems like it doesn't need air. Definitely makes a BIG difference with the Progressives tough. Also, the 3/4 inch is based on 190lbs and 6'1". I also went with the 5 1/2" inch from top with forks compressed measurement, because the 409cc oil measurement left it way low, like 8+ inches from top.

A sawzall and a big sledge hammer can make anything possible ! -
Does that mean to pull them and literally soak them in SeaFoam or drain and fill them with SeaFoam ? Details my man...details...

So Boys and Girls... I was minding my own business today when I drove out of town with my bike trailer and out of the blue the opportunity of a life time to buy an 87 blonde came up. I couldn't resist and pass up this opportunity that must be destiny... Okay... my wife didn't buy that story either, but it's my story and I'm sticking to it ! Picked up the 87. It needs the carbs done since it was parked inside an airplane hanger for 2 years with fuel. Also needs the front seals replaced but came with new Yamaha seals and dust covers. Two new tires, the front not even mounted yet. Has a lot of rear light bars, the back rest, a set of intercom pieced for a helmet, a bike cover, new plugs installed, the valve cover gaskets just done, trailer hitch, and a new extra oil filter and a brand new windshield. Negatives are the carbs, the front seals, a tear in the front seat portion, gotta mount the new front tire, small crack/damage area on front left fairing, clear coat peeling off of top of rear trunk, and clutch lever seems to have lost it's bleed although it doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere.

Well.... I picked up the blonde today. Definitely needs new front seals..luckily this one came with brand new Yamaha seals and dust caps. Interesting bike....needs a little TLC in some areas but overall a well kept bike. So... the adventure starts all over again.... no wait....
