  1. You never know what is really true... but....This is interesting: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/05/23/man-stranded-in-desert-builds-motorcycle-out-of-his-broken-car/?ncid=txtlnkwbauto00000002 According to Merriam-Webster, ingenuity can be defined as "skill or cleverness in devising or combining" or "cleverness or aptness of design or contrivance." We'd say that's an apt description of a Frenchman named Emile who reportedly found himself stranded in the deserts of Northwest Africa after breaking a frame rail and a suspension swingarm underneath his Citroën 2CV. What to do? Why, disassemble the broken hulk and build yourself a motorcycle from its pile of parts, of course! As the story goes, Emile was able to use the inventive machine to escape the desert, though not before convincing the local authorities that he wasn't an insurgent and paying a fine for importing a non-conforming vehicle... Since Emile was the only soul in the area, nobody has been able to confirm the veracity of the events that led to the little French runabout's conversion into a makeshift motorcycle. That said, judging by the images you can see here (apparently from the March 2003 issue of 2CV Magazine), this Citroën-bred two-wheeler does indeed exist, and it was definitely fashioned from parts scavenged from an old 2CV. Emile, wherever you are, we take our hats off to your real-life MacGyver skills, sir.
  2. With hot Arizona temperatures, My KLR650 would overheat the gas tank if I left the tank bag on it. Several times it got so hot that the gad would actually boil in the tank. I had never seen that happen before, but if the vent isn't venting correctly and the gas gets hot enough, it will build pressure and boil. Boiling gas in a tank is really interesting to see. Also, if your gas is ever boiling...be VERY careful about opening up the gas cap. Mine had so much pressure in it that when I opened it, it "blew" out through the filler neck all over the hot bike. I have never had that problem so far with any other bikes in Arizona.
  3. Since we know YOU weren't at MD and it was your evil twin workin' on the 2nd Gen, I would say you are in better condition than your "twin".
  4. Green Peace has been working on saving the pond monster species...

  11. Yammer...YOU WERE NOT THERE !!!! Now stick with the story ! Geez... if somebody claims they talked to you, tell then the conversation was photo shopped in....
  12. It had to be his evil twin....he would never ....ever.... go to the dark side.... I am obtaining the video from his local Walmart to show he couldn't be in two places at one time.... I still think he was photo shopped into the MD event...
  13. Good luck on the new nice ride. The information here is overwhelming. So much info..so little time to digest and use it. I got my 89 in December and my 87 in Feb. M 89 had similar issues that you have. Each one has been resolved by following the links and search ability here. Grease the speedo ASAP so you don't ruin it. Either pull the whole speedo unit and do it from the inside. You can look up member Golf and Venture and see if he has anymore grease fittings for sale, or I can mail you mine and you can send it back. It is easier to grease it from the front ( headlight out) then to take the whole speedo apart. Also, to use the search function efficiently , go to the very bottom to Google Search and click on the little dot on the http://www.venturerider.org. This will only search the forum and is way more efficient. One other suggestion: As you read the well written tech articles posted here... copy and paste them into Word and print them out for a 3-ring binder. You will develop a better manual then the dealer one. P.S. You also have to harass, intimidate, conjole, ( in a friendly manor) the 2nd Gens or you will be kicked out of the 1st Gen rider's club. P.S.S - Don't forget to spend the measly $12.00 to join this wonderful world of ....well... we'll leave the ending to your imagination... ...because you can never leave,,,,
  14. you know ..like they say...keep your friends close and your enemies closer..... still think it's photo shopped. ......
  15. Bob.. my zip wasn't accepted either. Let us know what they say about shipping. Bill
  16. Man... that usually only happens when two or more 1st Gens ride by at the same time...
  17. DO NOT start false rumors ! He was just showing them a few techniques to make them faster than a moped. P.S. I think the 2nd Gen was photo shopped in...
  18. Okay.. I pulled the MK1 kick stand. I have the shoulder bolt, the back nut, the spring bracket and the spring. I took pictures and measurements (below). If you need this kick stand, it's yours, let me know. I can air freight it tomorrow. Bill
  19. What are you seeing ? Ice Cream Cones with pink floppy slippers ?
  20. Post or send me a picture and your measurements. I will go over in the morning and check the match. I'll pull one and bring it home with me just in case.
  21. I have two 83 parts bikes. If nothing else works for you, you can have one of them if you pay the freight. I can take one off tomorrow and ship on Monday. Brian is a lot closer though....if his will work.
  22. You're hitting us in the hot time of the year. Northern is best to stay at. Flagstaff area, I think you were already going to the Grand Canyon, but I still highly recommend Zion National Park on the southern border of Utah. About 3 hours/165 miles from Vegas. Then you could drop down to the Canyon area. Sedona Arizona is a BEAUTIFUL place to ride through and stay for a day or two. Google it and check it out.
  23. Good luck and let us know how it goes. My Carbtune arrived very fast too ! Wish all companies worked like that.
  24. So ..are you still just staying up north in AZ ? If you come south let me know. Bill
