  1. But on the 2nd day... your fair game....
  2. What he thinks he typed with his left hand: Being the dumba$$ that I am, I fell last night and hit my right hand on a landscape rock. (No, not riding the bike, doing yardwork!) The result is a chipped bone just below the middle finger in the palm of the hand, and a partially torn ligament. So unless I can get the cruise control to work at under 40 mph and just use the rear brake, I'm grounded for awhile. And aren't you impressed that I typed this using my left hand only? And I'm not left handed! What we see as a post: Being the dumba$$ that I am, I fell last night and hit my right hand on a landscape rock. (No, not riding the bike, doing yardwork!) 3. Well I thought I had two 83 parts bikes, but from the VIN numbers, it looks like they are both 84's. I pulled the dash off of the one, and it doesn't match the picture in the prior post. Here are the pictures of my dash I pulled.
  4. Check the front and rear bulbs. I have seen it that when a bulb goes out, or loses connectivity, the flasher and the remaining bulb will flash fast. You can get to the speedo by removing the front headlight.A lot easier and faster.
  5. One recent leak was discovered to be the vacuum line on the front left carb to the TCI (?). It is the only line that comes off the lower carb area. Also, you might have a bad diaphragm in one ( or all) carbs. My 87 kept idling up once warm... to the point of ridiculousness. Once I checked my diaphragms, they all had holes/tears etc from age. The other trick is to spray starter fluid around the carbs and lines to check for a leak.
  6. I wasn't around this situation. My wife and I were driving in my daughter's Cherokee through Dallas/Ft Worth on our way to Ft Bragg, NC in May 2010 and had a swarm of sport bikes come flying through and around us. I held my line and lane. I kept thinking how other people would react. When you have bikes with loud exhaust come whipping past on both sides of your vehicle, weaving in and out of traffic it was spooky. They were like a swarm of (big @$$) wasps just taking over. And from my law enforcement/legal experience, that cop had NO RIGHTS to stop, or collect evidence. First of all, if you watch the video, that guy was riding slower and letting all other bikers pass. 2 or 3 cop cars passed him before Buford the cop pulled him over. Can't find a law stating that you are guilty by association of having a bike. I am glad that the helmet cam kept rolling. I think the whole stop and arrest was bogus, abusive, and the cop should be severely punished for his actions. AND... before a few of you start with me, I used to be a trainer for FLETC ( Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) and my main responsibility was training Feds on legal and correct high risk traffic stops and arrests.
  7. Thought I would pass this story on... I actually got caught up in one of these sport bikers runs while driving through Dallas/Ft Worth one night on my way to meet greet my daughter's return from Afghanistan. It was crazy...10 pm at night, probably a hundred bikes screaming past , in and out of traffic, I was doing 70mph+ and they passed me like I was standing still. All I could do was hold my lane and hope none of them went down in front of me. Still....this cop was wrong ! And... I want to know where/why the two other cops went running away.... http://www.theblaze.com/stories/cop-pulls-over-motorcyclist-in-order-to-confiscate-his-helmet-cam-arrests-him-when-he-objects/
  8. Thanks.. I'll get the VIN's of the parts bikes tomorrow and my 87 & 89 off the titles tonight. I will also get you the VIN's off of IronHorse Ike's 83 & 84.
  9. I will go pull what I have off of my parts bike tomorrow. I'll let you know.
  10. Voted

  12. I have never used it, but it is not supposed to change pressures which are affected by the outside ambient temperatures. So you don't lose lbs when it is cold, and ( I think) it doesn't increase with higher temps. I put slime in my KLR650's tubes, but have never put it in tubeless tires... not sure about that..seems it would be very messy when changing a tire out..
  13. Drop right on over to 1st Gen Tech forum.. BIG discussion going on now, join in today at no extra charge: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69310
  14. I will try to get over to where my parts bikes are. My purple one has part of the dash still on it. I believe it is an 83. Is there a way to tell the exact year from the VIN ?
  15. If BongoBobny doesn't have one, I can look at my one parts bike and see what is left on it's dash. I presume it is in the dash under the gauges ?
  16. Hmmm...first time I have heard him called that...... But he is a pretty good and helpful guy......
  17. Congrats on the new machine ! Hopefully your wave won't be from the side of the road asking for a tow... Sorry...couldn't help myself....
  18. You only harass the ones you love.... So they say....
  19. Congrats.
  20. I always check all my tires in the winter because of the cold affect. That's how I found my old gauge to be defective when I was adjusting the pressures as it became warmer. I just forgot to check the Venture. I will go to a more frequent tire pressure check with it now.
  21. I heard that if you park a Harley over the top of it, it will die from the oil leaks and the embarrassment.
  22. It's all that 1st Gen power, the wheelies, and the consistent fast braking you do when a DQ :fnd_(16):comes into sight.
  23. I found out several months ago that the dial air pressure guage I had been using was giving an innaccurate pressure reading. It was showing a higher than actual reading. I purchased a good digital and corrected all my vehicles and trailer's pressures. Or so I thought. After reading a current thread about tire life and air pressures, I started to wonder if I had re-checked my bike's pressures. I usually check them monthly, but with my work travel schedule, time flys and things got off of schedule. I went out and checked them. The rear was at 24 PSI and the front at 22.5 PSI. So... I filled them to 40 PSI rear and 35 PSI front. Then I went for a ride WOW....... it rolled faster out of the garage. It cruised smoooooooothly down the road. Seemed to shift a little easier, turned nicer and just seemed like a different bike. The only down side seemed that the brakes were just a little less. Amazing how just a little air like 16 lbs in the rear and 11 lbs in the front can make such a difference. Next thing you will know is that if I fill the gas tank to the top the guage would show full... Lesson: Check you gauge against another one you know is accurate.
  24. Your welcome. No problem. Don't worry about the postage. Just ride safe.
  25. When you say "link" are you talking about the flat half-moon piece the spring connects too ? I think that is what you are referring too. Do you think a different link from a 83 would work ? I can take one off of one of my parts bikes and send you the link. if it hasn't been bent it should be stronger than yours that has been bent. Or what about welding the two side by side and making it twice as thick ?
