  1. I couldn't find the thread where somebody was looking for the turn signal flasher.
  2. Is the piece removable/replaceable ? I have a cluster off an 84, but it is only good for parts.
  3. Don't forget your progressive springs
  4. Thanks...but...No... already have that hose hooked up. The hose hanging down is a small hose and is connected somewhere up under the left upper fairing. I couldn't see a similar hose on my 89, so it must be up under there doing something..
  5. I needed to modify/edit my original post. I posted before I Googled the one you were asking about. Mine is different but works the same. Mine will crank down to ground level and it also pivots while towing. I pulled mine out and took pictures. Might throw it on Craigs List in case somebody wants to gamble. I wouldn't use it again. Tried it one time on my KLR650 and it was scary. The bike is strapped by the front wheel it leaned like crazy on just light turns. I added straps and that didn't help. Haven't used it since. I wouldn't use it for a heavy bike like ours. The KLR was 400lbs. Here's the link for the type I have: http://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Cargo-Carrier/Oldenkamp/RHMC1SV.html?feed=npn&gclid=CO6Jur-xlbECFccBRQodQAWwhA
  6. Have you synced the carbs with the hose connected ?
  7. Well thanks.. you have helped me figure something out. the hose that was hanging there was identical to the one on the 89 and I am sure it is the correct hose that should be connected to the #2 cylinder. So... I disconnected the hose from the #2 cylinder and connected the hanging hose ( adding the additional little valve and hose piece from one of my parts bikes. No real difference, other that it ran even worse while both hoses were disconnected. Here is the deal.. I sucked on the "existing hose that was connected and the RPMs went high... in fact the throttle was turning by it's self... When I sucked on the "hanging" line it also affected the RPM's but not near as much. I am thinking that the PO had hooked up the cruise control line to the #2 cylinder... So I have reconnected the correct line to #2 cylinder... I will have to look and try to figure out what else the PO might have done when he was trying to get the bike running. Bike still runs like crap, but one step closer to figuring this out.
  8. Guess it's worth trying again. What I did last time was to disconnect the gas line, put my own onto the fuel pump and pumped in a very rich SeaFoam mixture into the carbs. Let them sit for 2 days, started it up and stunk up the garage and neighborhood for that matter. Did it again. Then ran a cleaner gas mixture through it. I just switched to pure gas and let her idle for 30 minutes revving the RPM's up every once in a while. Then I went around the block several times. I'll play with it this weekend, try to clean some more jets etc then soak it again.
  9. I have loaded my two 84 parts bikes and my 89 and 87 onto my trailer and they do hit at the bottom. The 84's had a bolt under there that snagged my ramp right at the top of the ramp at the angle point. One thing I have done is to use a different receiver hitch when loading and unloading the bike(s). I loaned mine out but the picture below shows the type of hitch, a 5-inch drop hitch. I put the ball on the hitch upside down so it becomes a 5-inch riser hitch. I tow my trailer with a 2-inch drop hitch upside down to level it out. By raising the trailer tongue up, the angle of the ramp and rail meeting point becomes less. i always also look for a sidewalk, concrete area to load/unload at. If you are early or late in the evening, or even weekends, you can find a business like a bank that is closed. Back up to a side walk area and unload onto it. That can add ( subtract) another 4-inches to your angle. Oh yea..doesn't hurt to have at least one linebacker available to help wrestle that beast up/down...
  10. I will have to disassemble more of the bike/fairing area to be able to see more in that area. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the cruise control ? Isn't there some vacuum type lines that run across the front of the fairing ? I don't think this one is a Cali bike. I know there is a way to tell from the VIN or Model number, but will have to research that to find out how. I don't see that long black breather thing up above the front of the engine. No shock.. to cowardly Symptoms are hard to start cold. Use all choke. Runs like crap and is hard to accelerate the engine speed without it crapping out. once it warms up, i can use less choke but never none. Very slow to accelerate RPMs with throttle, choke will accelerate RPMs some. One interesting thing I noticed: When cranking over, or when idling on it's own, the throttle bounces back and forth. Almost looks like a ghost is giving it a little gas. It is also in rhythm with the engine idle sound. I have ridden it around the block a couple of times but it runs so bad, doesn't accelerate rapidly, although it seems to try over a distance, or decelerate well at all. Also sounds like a small back fire at times from a rear cylinder. I am going to try cleaning a few more of the jets etc. I want to do anything but pull the rack. Oh yea..the new plugs didn't make any difference. Neither did the new diaphragms.
  11. On my prayer list. Can you give us his first name ?
  12. Good job. Happy Birthday. Glad you are safe. Now go change your underpants.
  13. Our Home Group starts in 7 minutes..it will definitely be on our prayer list. Best wishes Dan.
  14. In the past, I just listed each item and had a replacement cost from an ad, or catalog etc. They can see that they are on the bike, you just need to show replacement costs. Play tough ! They will nickle and dime you to death. After I t-boned a car that ran a stop sign, the insurance company for the driver of the car fought me over the last $87.00. I went to an attorney and said here's their offer, I will split 50/50 with anything you get over that offer. We both got $1,500.00 each from just one letter from the attorney. That $87.00 dollars cost them an extra $2,913.00. Hey...by the way Brian...how are you feeling ?
  15. There already is a hose from the #2 carb going up in the direction of where it should go. This hose appears to be a different hose. Okay, thanks.. I'll give it a little more Ummph on the pop out attempt
  16. Okay my guru friends… I’m working on the 87. Just put in the new diaphragms over the weekend and cleaned the carbs in that area. Already did the super duper SeaFoam flush. The Bike still runs like crap. Just put in new plugs today and checked the wires and caps for resistance. That is documented below. QUESTION: I also found the vacuum looking hose hanging from the front left ( not the one that goes from the carb base up) and I can’t figure where this hose goes and why it is disconnected. ( picture below) I followed the his e up with my hand and it feels like it connects to some type of nipple at the bottom of the upper left fairing. Any ideas ?? So, after checking the plug wires for resistance, I did find one problem with one plug wire. The stats are these: LF – 23.4 LR – 35.5 RF- 23.2 RR – 23.1 So having the high resistance in the left rear, I pulled the cap and got a reading of 8.9. The right rear cap was 9.0. The left rear wire without the cap was 26.9 and the right rear with out the cap was 14.2. So, if I remember correctly, all the readings except the left rear wire are good. QUESTION: So how would a wire reading of 26.9 affect the running of the bike ? QUESTION: Also, I tried to remove the cap on the Idle Mixture screws. I drilled a small hole, screwed a screw into it and tried to "pop" it off. They didn't pop off. Should I drill the whole thing out or will it pop out some how ?
  17. I don't have a clue to what all this means and what you are saying, but it sure sounds like GREAT information !! I don't have a V-boost or anything like it.....
  18. Maybe this can help. It looks like a part that holds a wire in place..but that is only a guess.
  19. I have 2 84 parts bikes that have tanks on them. Just an FYI in case you decide you need one.
  20. I'll be watching this thread as I just installed new diaphragms and the new little washers on the slide needle on my 87. Unfortunately, the thing still runs like total crap. New plugs are going in today, but I think I have to pull the complete rack and clean each carb. This makes me a very unhappy camper. I have added several documents that I have copied off of previous posts. The 3 part one was cut up to meet file size rules and you can re-past it into 1 document. I do not remember who posted the original information but i thank them for it and hope they are not upset at the re-posting. CARB REMOVAL AND CLEANING1.doc
  21. And... don't feel bad. I got the 87 started today after replacing the diaphragms and it still runs like crap. Will put new plugs in it tomorrow but if that doesn't work, looks like a rack pull for me..
  22. You have the answer ! Run to Harbor freight and get the set of long needle nose pliers for $10.00. I just used mine AGAIN today on the 87. They are worth every penny. I bought mine to connect that hose and can't believe how many other uses they have had. I won't leave the garage without them !
  23. Good news for you: Texas has freeways with 80 MPH speed limits and supposedly going to 85. Bad News: Texas Highway Patrol tickets at 1 MPH over posted.

    Spark Plugs

So what is the benefit of using a hotter plug versus a stock plug ? Does a "7" do something better than an "8" ? Inquiring minds want to know...
